Not in the kids' best interest to shake up the leadership???

WHAT?? WHAT??
Then why the heck did the BOE just vote on 4 new leaders for 4 schools? None of the new prinicipals were teachers in the schools they've been assigned to.

Wait a minute I thought kids are resilient and they bounce back?

Is all this garbage being spewed, double talk?? I'm getting more and more confused
I'd agree with you, but then we'd both be WRONG.

Does anyone know which principal is assigned to which school? I understand one principal is coming from Farmington. I know at least two of the other three have been Livonia teachers.

I love teaching.
Shawndra Hernton was my principal at Hillside in Farmington. She is one of the most amazing, dedicated and caring people/leaders I have ever had the privilege of working for. She was well loved in Farmington and due to the new configurations would have gone back into a classroom. I am thrilled that she will continue as a principal. Cass is getting an amazing principal. Please welcome her warmly. I am confident that you will love her as much as we did.

Sounds like VERY good news. Cass has not had a good principal these past few years. They deserve someone like you are describing.

I was curious about her as well, how can you check on her credentials? What level of education is required to be a principal?

from my memory, feeble as it is, Theresa O'Brien was a 3/4 teacher at Roosevelt pre-LI, then a teacher at Cooper - math seems to be her forte, but I no nothing of her education experience

yes, her name has appeared on the "demographics" committee, sorry to say

Teresa O'Brian was the teacher leader at Cooper for the 2005-2006 school year. I am not certain of this, but I think she has a degree in educational leadership. Princiipals are required to have a msters degree - usually in curriculum or leadership.

I think she was also a 1st grade teacher at Washington for a number of years prior to 04-05. She was one of the big LI cheerleaders when they first rolled it out. I had heard she was a great teacher for the little ones, but I remember her to be quite snotty when parents would question her about the re-org at PTA mtgs. Is that considered a personal attack? Maybe 'defensive' would be a nicer term.

Either way, she definately 'knew best' when it came to our kids and the reconfiguration.

I guess she did know what was best for her.

Regarding Shawndra, one of the things you will notice about her right away is that she is ALWAYS smiling and always in a good mood. She is a glass half full person and really listens to people. She has a very warm personality. She is in and out of classrooms a lot. She gives feedback to teachers and initiates things in her school that benefit children. She really is a wonderful person and Cass is so lucky to have her. I hope that she spends less time at work this year. She is there all the time. Very dedicated.

I think you can see that I am going to miss her tremendously.

She thanked Oquist for her "support" at the board meeting. They must be demolition friends from way back. How many more demolition members does Liepa need to payback by promotions and raises b4 we can get back to creating a real district?

So where is Kristin Schulkins going to be?

It's about time they placed her as principal. She really should have gotten that principal position at Randolph a few years back when Mrs Hughes retired. Instead, they put in a really young gal (Mrs Daniels) that had hardly any experience at all, even in the classroom! Certainly no experience as principal ANYWHERE. I believe she worked in central office (?) before being assigned to Randolph. Prior to that, I think she worked in another district.

So, for the life of me, I cannot figure out how we can have qualified teachers in this district that want the principal positions, but are passed over for someone from out-of-district OR haven't been in our district as long as others vying for the same position?! Can anyone explain that to me?

Disclaimer: Before anyone gets mad at me for 'bashing' (I know how some just love that word ;) ) the new out-of-district principal, this is not meant to say that Shawndra is not a good principal, I'm sure she is. I'm just wondering why they hire 'from the outside' before someone 'inside'!

Kristyn Schulkins Cousino will be at Grant Elementary. I was very impressed with her at Riley. I am sure she will do an excellent job at Grant.

I always wonder what is the determining factor for people getting promoted or hired for that matter. I think that most people that interview hope and pray they are selecting the right candidate but sometimes the interviewees aren't that great and you have to go outside. I would think in the case of Shawndra her experience and excellent reputation probably proceeded her. But, who knows how any of it works.

I understand a lot hinges on the interview process. This means that the most talented person is sometimes passed over for someone who is better at being interviewed. I wish the best to all four.

Having someone new also brings in a new perspective, a new look at the "old" way of doing things. I agree that we have many talented people in the district that would make wonderful principals but they don't always make the cut (no friends in the right places). I look forward to having a new principal from outside LPS and hope that she brings a fresh look and new ideas.
