Visited a friend in the Garfield area and Garfield School looks so terrible! Weeds galore and long grass. Looks like a school that is closed and no maintenance?? Whats the scoop there??

Budget cuts. They needed to save $12,000. Something had to give.

They just started the grass cutting crews up. They haven't been to all the buildings yet.

Even the uncut school property looks a heck of a lot better than some of the state property around the freeways.

Last week we all decided to take a walk over to Top of the Cone on 5 mile instead of drive and we practically got lost in the 5 foot tall weeds along the sidewalk over the freeway! They finally got cut recently but the fact is that publicly funded properties arent being maintained like they used to these days. Putting down weed killer and fertilizer costs taxpayer dollars as does cutting regularly.

Well, it looked pretty bad! If I lived there, I would be embarrassed! I'm sure the neighbors around the school have had budget cuts of their own, but still take PRIDE in their homes! The homes in the area are well kept and so should the neighborhood school!

The schools exist to educate, not employ.
