According to the News, Noah received over 1,000,000 cards before passing away today. It's great to see something so nice done for this little boy, during such a tragic time for him and his family.

Community mourns death of 5- year -old who captured America's heart

The South Lyon community morns the death of little Noah Biorkman, the 5-year-old boy who captured the heart of America with his plea for Christmas cards as his dying wish.

Noah died Monday morning after a long battle with cancer. The petite, blond hair boy was diagnosed with neuroblastoma when he was 3. He went into remission, but relapsed in September of 2008.

Somber helpers stood outside the little boy’s apartment Monday, opening and then throwing out bins of cards into a dumpster — one small sign of the grief.

The family issued a statement thanking everyone for their support during Noah’s illness. They said they are thankful for the outpouring of love and compassion.

But what those who didn’t know Noah will remember him most by is his parents’, Diana and Scott, request for Christmas cards for their little boy.

Faced with the fact Noah most likely wouldn’t make it to Christmas, they decided to bring the holiday to him Nov. 6 at Noah’s South Lyon apartment.

Members of the South Lyon police and fire departments brought Santa to Noah, so the family could celebrate Christmas while Noah was in hospice care.

South Lyon Police Chief Lloyd Collins said as sad as the situation was, the family made the best of the premature gathering.

“From a police department perspective, we’re always happy to help,” he said.

As part of the early holiday gathering, Noah’s parents humbly requested that Christmas cards arrive for their son.

The request was made initially on a Web page for family supporters, but went viral hitting facebook, Twitter, national media and even the Ellen DeGeneres TV show.
The family received letters and packages for Noah reaching one million. Packages came from throughout the world ranging from Florida to Hong Kong.

Dave Priebe, officer in charge at the South Lyon Post Office, said the volume of mail Noah received was outstanding.

“As far as one little 5-year-old boy receiving this much mail — this is unprecedented,” Priebe said earlier this month.

The family now has another request. They ask that their privacy is respected during this difficult time.

Funeral services will be for family only.
