HOPEFULLY those that voted to approve the millage renewals won't ask any questions.

This administration has just gotten approval to do whatever they want with all the money! They will continue to spend it on administrative raises and privately owned soccer domes.......... this is too sad for our children.

Now that the election is over and Granholm and the Districts have suckered the voters to approve millages you should be seeing the the money from the state coming back. Watch how well the voters were played.

I bet nothing goes to the kids. Why doesn't the community organize a "Student Union" and put together our list of demands from the district, if they are not met the students walk out? I guess it would never work, LPS families are happy to be threated by the administration and unions in one of "Michigan's Best School Districts"

Don't think for a moment that Randy's troubles are over. The money won't just come back, because it isn't there.

Randy may cheer tonight, but he will have to figure out how to live within his new means. It will be interesting to see who gets to bear the brunt of Randy's cost cutting measures.

Maybe it will be the new math that gets cut ....... since about $100,000 of workbooks are required annually. Maybe, just maybe, LPS will go back to the old math....... it would be good for the kids and would save money.....

Randy would rather go into bankruptcy than admit he was wrong.

No big surprises tonight, maybe Laura beating Brosnan. Joe Laura did really well. He almost caught McCann! Considering the complete disdain for Brosnan I sense from the Mayors office, it should make for some interesting dialogue. And it isn't like Joe Laura hasn't had a few exchanges with the mayor. Should be really interesting.

I had no idea how Scheel would do. Some said they would vote for her, just to get her off the school board. Others said they would never vote for her, ever. Looks like the latter held true. I don't think she went into to it expecting to win, probably just to get her name out there for the next try.

I am glad the millage renewals passed. That was the easy part. The hard part is going to be for parents to come together and fight hard. Fight to keep that money where it belongs. That fight starts today. I bet it starts with transportation, likely the first thing on the chopping block.

Now is the real time to stay informed folks. Now.

Livonia school millages appear headed for approval
November 3, 2009

Voters appeared to have said yes to Livonia Public Schools Tuesday.

Early election results indicated the operational and sinking fund millages on the ballot were winning by more than a three-to-one margin.

With 44 of 46 precincts reported, city of Livonia voters had approved the operational millage with 10,118 yes votes to 2,367 no votes. They approved the sinking fund millage with 9,367 yes votes to 2,973 no votes.

Those tallies were unofficial and did not include Westland votes or absentee ballots.

“It’s a testament to our community. They support our schools,” Superintendent Randy Liepa said.

School officials were elated by the large margins.

“I expected two to one,” school board Trustee Rob Freeman said. “I’m overwhelmed by the support of our community.”

Both Liepa and Freeman said Gov. Jennifer Granholm’s recent announcement of cuts totaling more than $600 per student to Livonia Public Schools energized voters.

“The community got their dander up,” Freeman said.

John Hiltz, who chaired the citizens committee supporting the millages, said he’s optimistic the final results will mirror the early returns. “I was real pleased with the support I saw at the polls early in the day,” he said, adding voters were giving the thumbs-up sign. “That was a good feeling.”

McCann leads Livonia council race
November 3, 2009
Livonia voters may have returned three incumbents and a former councilwoman to City Council.

With 44 precincts reporting Tuesday night and absentee ballots yet to be tallied, Jim McCann held a slim lead with 7,384 votes over Joe Laura’s 7,223.
Maureen Miller Brosnan had 6,752 votes and John Pastor had 6,481 votes.

Lynda Scheel followed with 4,757 votes, then came Steve Crosby with 2,232; Conrad Schwartz, 1,975, and Lucas McGrail, 1,576, rounded out the field.

The top finisher is the next council president, while the second place finisher will be council vice president.

The top three vote getters will be elected to four-year terms, while the fourth will win a two-year term.

The council terms begin Jan. 1, 2010.

After all that bad mouthing of Granholm, it looks like her actions, saved the districts by helping to pass the millages. In the tri-county area, a quick check shows only Garden City voters did not pass school tax proposals/millages/renewals.

Hold back the money first, then MAYBE you can own the BOE. You don't rehab an addict by being an enabler. Stay tuned for more waste.

I always vote.

In our horrible economy, and the highest unemployment in the country, our community gave this BOE and administration an extension of the status quo. They will continue to do as they please. Much more waste is yet to come!

I always vote too!
