I certainly don't think Granholm is perfect, but why is she responsible for the bank failures in NYC that created the financial mess we are in, much of it due to the lack of government oversight under Bush? Why is she responsible for Bush's Fed Chair, who decided to save a few banks on our dime in 2008 and "socialize" them as people say? What specifically did Granholm do to create the country-wide and Michigan recession? How about the TRILLION spent in Iraq alone? Did she send that over there, too? I missed the part where the governor voted to occupy Iraq based on false pretenses. I'd really like to know what specifically is the critique? I'm open to hearing it, but what is it? |

Her ideas for thje budget and the economy have revolved around increasing taxes. Taxes on consumers, taxes on business, taxes on just about everything, and everyone. Granholm is not the only reason that Michigan's economy is this bad. But she surely has plenty to be blamed for. Just as our legislature does. Perhapes the silver lining to this mess will be a change in the way Michigan's government works. Tax and spend has been a failure, and Granholm has been the Queen of the tax and spend crew. |

I'm tired of what seems like good ol' dump on the "weak" woman thing. See Laura Toy/Maureen Brosnan--nasty, nasty personal smears. No one went "there" for some when the rumors abound about, ahem, certain behavior--and it ain't the women. When were taxes raised and not repealed (small business tax)? How else are we going to pay for all the stuff citizens expect when property values, income and business taxes are in the can? Where's the cash going to come from? I give her credit for playing hardball with the Republicans. They want to maintain services but not cut? Both parties pander to the loudest. Both Republicans and Dems love their services, such as public schools and police/fire and on and on--but how do Republicans expect to pay for it? Bottled water? Go ahead and tax it. Pop? Go ahead and tax it. Cigs? Tax it. Booze? Tax it. I like my "vices" just as much as the next person--but I'd dump them, if they got too expensive. Edited by Anna Krome, Nov 8 2009, 10:38 AM.

Just putting it out there, but the tax system is flawed system. That is why taxation is not a proper way to fund our state or country. Why are we "punished" by earning money? You are taxed if you earn, taxed if you save. That is not efficient. Here's the pipe dream solution that Washington would never go for - The tax should be on consumption. That way EVERYONE who spends - citizens, non citizens, people earning, people not earning, legal and illegal aliens, etc. Everyone who spent money, ALL OF US, would pay a tax on our spending...People who are paying into the systems that benefit everyone, and people not paying in. |

Good points, all. Small businesses can form S corps which curtail taxes in a huge way, depending on the sit. |

This may come as a complete shock to you Anna but I dont know a single person who is unhappy with Granholm's performance as governor who feels that way because of her gender. There are always a small fringe of people who may feel intimidated by a woman, but there is no mass conspiracy against "weak women". |

Who said anything about a "mass conspiracy"? To be a devil's advocate: What's your specific complaint against Granholm? Specific. Not "she raised taxes." The legislature voted to raise the business tax. The governor can veto, but she has no power to "raise taxes." One thing I think is interesting is that she came to see Mr. Liepa and "talk"--after his strong remarks against her in public. Would he have done that if she were a Republican and a man? I don't know, but it sure sounded "macho" on his part. She's got a mighty firm handshake I hear. |

Thats Granholm. Strong, but wrong. At least when it comes to the economy. |

Economy? Economist? I missed the part where any were "economists" on here. Questioners? Yes. Economists? Nope! |

Let's see, here are my specific complaints... She's killin the state. People are flocking out of here. Our unemployment rates have been higher than the national average since she took office, 11.5% personal income tax hike in 07, business tax, etc. We have more people leaving the state than any other, we have the most unemployment, and the public policy decisions over the past decade have done nothing to encourage small business growth. Quite the opposite really. These are a few of my problems with her. And, did she get rid of that stupid mole yet? It's distracting. (Don't worry Anna, Obamanutjob's ears bother me too. I don't favor one sex for dumping on. One party maybe...)) Edited by uh-oh, Nov 10 2009, 05:00 AM.
