The schools exist to educate, not employ.
First a soccor field, now a $1.4 million swiming pool fix. Sheez is there anything these people won't waste our money on?

There are consequences for wasting taxpayer money. The biggest, is that they stop saying yes when you ask for more.

Is the $1.4 million to fix the pool, or to fix the heating and cooling unit in the pool area?

I see fixing the pool as different from the soccer field. The pool is used everyday by our students for physical education classes and by our swim teams. It directly impacts the students.

I totally agree with you, IDK. Fixing the pool directly impacts the students of LPS. A soccer dome owned by a non-LPS interest is completely useless to the students of LPS. Let's see how much of that promised time/use LPS students get. My money's on 0 minutes!!

Awwwwwww, let's be a little more optomistic

LPS students will get plenty of use of the soccer dome and facility......................................

Right after the owner defaults on the contract and LPS no longer makes any profit but now has a money loser on their hands.

Now that they are moving forward with this, here are my questions.
How can we utilize this facility for our students?
Can our schools use the dome for before or after school activities? Especially the school located right across the street?
Can our soccer teams use it for practice on bad weather days?
Can our soccer teams have set games there?
Can we increase the number of our students that play soccer by having a winter league?
Can we increase the number of our students playing soccer by having a rec league? Something for those kids that love to play but didn't make the team.
What can it be used for beside soccer?
I don't see any financial benefit to the plan so what can we push for the make this a positive thing for our students? Something that will NOT cost the student money.

Here is a question that will have to be answered first.

Is it legal.

We won't get time/use of the soccer fields because they've offered it to us DURING THE DAYTIME HOURS. How many students will be available to use it during the day - ZERO.

Most parents are working during the day and can't take their kids to the soccer fields during the summer day and most students will be in school during the school day.

Here is another example of how LPS deals with the community. Business as usual. Sigh...

I don't understand why the contractors vying for the job are the ones "advising" the BOE on the pool repair. Doesn't LPS have very well-paid individuals available to educate themselves in order to advise the BOE with a full report and in time so the BOE can actually have time to decide such expensive repairs? I heard a rumor that Mr. Hosman does not have a lot to do for his 6-figure salary.

I also hope that the BOE does not plan this pool fix when the teams are supposed to be training Fall/Winter--and push them to another pool offsite.

The Franklin girls' team has done incredibly well the last two years, making States and school history. One swimmer is training for Nationals. The swim team practices in the early morning--then directly to class--and, then, after school. Forcing them off-campus will be detrimental to the teams' success.
