Hello. We recently moved into a house that was built in 1929. The address is 9355 Butwell, Livonia MI 48150. Upon asking a neighbor if he knew of any history on the home, he told me that someone was killed here. He directed me to another neighbor who told me that a previous owner had a son who lived in an apartment in the backyard with his girlfriend. The girlfriend babysat children to make money. One day, she was very frustrated and beat a baby to death. This happened in the early 1980's. I'm trying to find out more information (not only about this story, but the history altogether). I am just very bothered by this. I have three children myself, one of which was just born in this very house. It's sad to think that a baby lost his or her life here and that my daughter's began here when she was born in our dining room. Anyone know anything? |

I wasn't in Livonia in the '80s, so I can't help there. I know why you'd want to know, but you might want to do your own research--if you can't get more information from the neighbors. Try the Livonia Civic Center Library and speak to a reference librarian and ask how to research the issue. They may have old newspaper articles on microfiche. Also, detnews.com or freep.com may provide back-issue research from that time. You'd probably have to pay a small fee. Try city hall and inquire about the property records. I'd bet the Treasurer's office has a record of who owned the house and paid the taxes in the '80s. If it was a son's girlfriend, you may be able to track down the former owners. If you have the alleged murderer's name, you could check the Offender Tracking Information System (OTIS). This will provide information about any offender who is, or was, in a Michigan prison, on parole or probation under the supervision of the MDOC. http://www.state.mi.us/mdoc/asp/otis2.html |
