A friend of mine moved from Livonia to Northville. She was relieved to learn that they do not use Everyday Math. They use Houghton-Mifflin for grades K-4. Also, no Connected Math. |

Why did Northville dump Everyday Math? It's interesting to know that, when they did use it, they only used it as a supplement. Maybe LPS (Sheila) should give them a call. April 9, 2009 District officials happy with MEAP scores Scott Spielman Editor Students in the Northville Public School District continue to perform above state levels. Results from the Michigan Educational Assessment Program (MEAP) showed that students in the Northville district continue to improve, even though they were already at a high level, said School Superintendent Leonard Rezmierski. “We are pleased that our students have continued their strong performance on this important state assessment,” he said. “It is a demonstration of the hard work our students, teachers and families do every day-that even during these challenging economic times for our state and for our public schools in Michigan, our students continue to succeed.” Northville students were at least 10 percentage points above the state average in all subject areas at all grade levels, according to Mary Kay Gallagher, assistant superintendent for instructional services for the district. Most were in the high 90th percentile. Rezmierski said the numbers are good, but district officials use them to try to improve the educational experience anyway. “As we do each year, administrators and educators across the school district will carefully study these results and use the data-along with other assessments of student learning-to modify our curriculum and enhance student intervention and support programs with the goal of ensuring success for every student.” The results came from the tests administered in October of last year. Third through eighth graders were tested in math and English language arts. Fifth through eighth grades were tested in science, too, while sixth graders too the social studies test. Ninth graders were only assessed in social studies. The MEAP is just one way districts are assessed under the No Child Left Behind Act. Other area include the number of students who take the test and graduation rates. Gallagher said she wasn’t surprised the district fared so well. “Our kids come to school ready to learn,” she said. “It’s certainly a supportive community and the teachers are working hard, too.” http://www.journalgroup.com/Northville/9468 http://www.zillow.com/school/MI-Northville/Northville-Public-Schools-5375/ Edited by Whatever, May 23 2009, 12:24 PM.
