I took my boys to basketball yesterday and the Coach told us that our entire basketball schedule was going to change AGAIN. It's been changed twice already. The reason he gave - LPS is cutting the custodial hours so the schools won't be open as late, therefore, all the games listed after 7 p.m. must be rescheduled. It's just another way that LPS does not support the children in this district. I wonder how many extra custodial hours could have been saved if Mr. Markarian wasn't pulling in $90,000 to hit the Power Off switch in a few schools. Have any other LJAL parents heard this info? Just wanted to let you know that Mr. Markarian doesn't make $90k nor does Mr. Harvey. If they made $90k they would be making more then their boss Mr. Raymond, who doesn't make $90k either. |

I would like to know where these numbers have come from if they are not legit. The fact still is that LPS is showing nepotism and the question remains - how qualified is a custodian to be an energy consultant? I honestly can say that it's possible someone who works around the schools could have a good idea of how to save energy, but to me that doesn't mean that they get a big raise and fancy title. There are people who have gone to school for this... why not hire one of them. |

OK - I'm really frustrated now. Our basketball schedule has changed no less than 10 times. We're being told that LPS promises LJAL gym time and then other things come up and LPS takes the gym time away and forces LJAL to reschedule a bunch of games. So, I guess LPS takes LJAL's money, promises to rent them so many gym hours, but they seem to be able to break that promise any time they feel like it. Does anybody know who within LPS actually delegates the gym use? Who is in charge of the gym rental program? Does anybody know how much LJAL pays LPS to be treated this way? Does LPS realize how many families schedules they are impacting every time they decide to reneg on a promise? LJAL is a bunch of VERY dedicated "volunteers" working VERY hard to provide a basketball program in this city and due to the VERY poorly run LPS, these volunteers are having to do 10x the work in revising the schedule every 2-3 days due to LPS. These volunteers are supporting the athletes in this city in a way that LPS doesn't. The volunteers care and they work hard for FREE. LPS doesn't care and this is just another way they show that they don't care. I think every LJAL parent should be voicing their frustrations to LPS. Dr LIEpa - I know your spy's read this site for you. What kind of LIE's can you spew to cover up this mess? |

LPS has a usage office; there is one woman who handles all the rental of LPS buildings. If I'm not mistaken, LPS charges $45/hour for gym rental. I can tell you from experience that LJAL is not the only group affected by changes that LPS makes. I too rent gym space and either have a hard time getting a gym or get rescheduled. However, I have not heard that custodial staff is being diminished nor has my gym schedule changed. My gym time got cancelled due do the school closing on Dec 19; I have yet to schedule a make-up time because most of the gyms are booked. I have been told that school functions come first. So if the school you are using decides they need the gym for a concert or school activity, you are going to get bumped. LPS Community education also takes priority. If there is a class or a class needs to be scheduled, then you will get bumped or not have use of the gym. I know it's inconvenient that things have to be rescheduled, but I think you are taking this too personally. I don't believe LPS is out to punish or target LJAL specifically. Most organizations run with volunteers who are dedicted and work hard; they too are inconvenienced when the schedule changes....... |
