It is unbelievable that Randy had nothing to say about it. I understand he wouldn't have been able to give details, but to acknowledge it happened and say there is an ongoing investigation was certainly in order. To completlely ignore it and blather on about how wonderful everything is outrageous. |

Some facts will have to remain confidential for obvious reasons, but the outcome must be public knowledge for the BOE to have any transparency with their constituents, otherwise it is another in a long list of similarly disgusting incidents that have just been swept under the rug over the past few years. Don't these board members know that they are publicly, legally, and fiscally responsible for any actions that occur as a result of incidents like this? I would hate to be them and be trying to hold it under the table. It's far too late for that, and legal repercussions are sure to be pending. |

Most of the board did not even know of the incident until a citizen came to the podium to ask about it. |

Sounds like it was a serious enough incident that all BOE should have been aware of it, and at least have known the response for the inevitable inquiries. Deer in the headlights is a safe attitude. I doubt the public would be told the facts, sounds like a major personnel issue that will be dealt with according to school/district policy. The incident at Churchill, again with students and tempers flaring, was kept rather low key. No one wants any more negative campaigning directed toward the district. |

District, police investigate assault allegation http://www.hometownlife.com Rebecca Jones Livonia Public Schools and the police department are investigating an allegation that a transportation paraprofessional assaulted a special education student on the ride home from school Oct. 10. The employee, who has been a parapros for the past two years, has not been working since the accusation, said Mark Schultz, administrator of employee relations and public safety, who is investigating for the school district. Schultz said his investigation is almost complete. Disciplinary actions would be decided at that point, Schultz said. The police department will determine whether to seek criminal charges once it wraps up its investigation. |
| I'd agree with you, but then we'd both be WRONG. | |

The real question, is why wasn't the BOE told, rather than just Markarian. |

By the way, how come we can have a zero tolerance policy for bullying, but not for employee on student violence? |

Why would you say there is not zero tolerance in this situation? The article above says the employee has not been working since the accusation. I would assume that once the investigation is complete, there would be charges filed, if it is found that an assault took place. There are state laws regarding school employees who have been charged with crimes involving children. I think you will have to wait for this situation to play itself out before making those kinds of assumptions. |

"The employee, who has been a parapros for the past two years, has not been working since the accusation....." Wonder if that employee is still getting paid, too? Or did they get suspended without pay? |
