If there has been a decrease in your taxable value, the school district will receive less $$$$.

You are correct. If taxable values have dropped for people, they will be paying less taxes which means less money to the schools, city, county, etc.

Many long time homeowners in the city, as you can see from the numbers posted on here, have built up such a difference between the assessed value and taxable value that they can lose quite a bit of their assessed value before the taxable value will even decline. End result is that the total amount of taxes that is reduced in the city for this year may not be as much as you think. Someone would have to check with the assessor to find all that info out.

I called my homeowners insurance since my policy said my home was worth more this year than last year and explained my home is not worth $260,000 anymore, in fact it is not worth 200,000 and Farmers told me I have to carry $260,000 on it because that is the replacement cost. They also increased my premium $50. a year. They are also making me carry $15,000 insurance on a shed that cost $500. So when you look at the whole picture, homeowners insurance is the bigger rip off than taxes.

Sounds like you need to switch Home Owners Insurance. I did that with my car once, when I was paying the same for a 8 year old car as I was paying for a brand new one. Its kind of crazy..

If you are thinking about making a change and you are a member of Costco, their insurance prices through Ameriprise is pretty reasonable. I would give it a try, it could save you a few bucks. ;)
