http://hometownlife.com/apps/pbcs.dll/arti...NEWS10/80213032 Doctor faces 5 new sex assault charges Alex Lundberg Five new sex abuse charges have been leveled against a doctor who practiced in Livonia. If found guilty, he could spend the rest of his life in prison. Wayne County Prosecuting Attorney Kym Worthy announced Wednesday that Dr. Joseph Paupore, 42, of Belleville was going to be charged with five new counts of criminal sexual conduct, ranging from first-degree to fourth-degree. “There are certain things you should be able to do without worry,” Worthy said. “Going to the doctor should be one of them.” She then laid out the litany of charges against Paupore, which included accusations he fondled patients as young as 9 years old and as old as 53, since opening his practice on Merriman near Seven Mile in 2003. He is a doctor of osteopathy. The prosecutor said the case was put together following the hard work of the Livonia police department and especially Sgt. Shelley Holloway. “I want to commend the Livonia police department and Sgt. Holloway for the number of victims she’s been able to unearth,” Worthy said. She went on to say she was certain there were more victims who had not come forward. Sgt. Holloway said she was still looking for anyone with more information on the case. Paupore is already awaiting a pre-trial hearing on a fourth-degree criminal sexual conduct charge he was arraigned on late last year. According to the prosecutor’s office, those charges stem from two different occasions earlier this year when a 37-year-old female patient accuses Paupore of asking her to remove her clothes and then touching her in an inappropriate manner while claiming to be making chiropractic adjustments. If found guilty of the original charge, Paupore faces up to two years in prison, a $500 fine or both. The new charges include the possibility of life in prison. As of Tuesday, the Michigan Department of Community Health and the Michigan Board of Osteopathic Medicine and Surgery suspended Paupore’s license to practice medicine. Anyone with information connected to the case should contact Sgt. Holloway at (734) 466-2325. alundberg@hometownlife.com | (734) 953-2109 |
