And I also think it's crap for Major Card Player or anyone else to pass judgement on these women. Saying that they'll trade money and lifestyle for a loving marriage anyday is stupid. People do not know what happens or has happened in these houses. I'm not condoning cheating at all, I'm just stating the fact that I think it's ignorant to pass judgment on someone you don't know. The wives are not on trial here--leave them out of it, I think they've had enough to deal with. |

Good. Because cheating is cheating whether it is Mike Cox, Bill Clinton, or Kwame Kilpatrick. Realize that he will get pounded on it when he runs for Governor. It will be made into to a huge deal, and people will dig deep for every ounce of info. The Democrats will run far with that one. I hope the Republicans have another candidate in mind. |

Didn't Mrs. Kilpatrick get in trouble a while back for having a city SUV for her personal use? |

I agree, George. He would be a great governor, IMO. From what I saw when he was Mayor of Detroit, he was an honest, hard-working man. It was the worst thing for Detroit when he decided not to re-run. |

Mr. Archer is one of the few politicians that can draw both Dems and Republicans to vote for him. |

I was surprised to hear today that Dennis Archer may run. He would be a serious contender, and Republicans had better choose a candidate with no skeletons, and flawless character if they want to beat him. Dennis Archer is a man I really, really respect. His character is impeccable. If it comes down to Mike Cox and Dennis Archer, I may break my party ties and vote for Archer. Archer is a bridge builder. One personal thing about Dennis Archer really sticks in my head. We were on our way home from Florida in Dennis Archers last weeks of office as Mayor. Our plane had a stop in Atlanta, and we were, of coarse, in the back of the plane because we had screaming young children  . To my great surprise, on walks Mayor Dennis Archer. With one other person. He continues to make his way to the back of the plane, just a few rows in front of us. He sits down in the back of the plane with all of the screaming babies, and complains about nothing. Then, we land in Detroit, and guess who is waiting in line with everyone else to collect his luggage? Mayor Archer!. But, oooooooo, here is where he splurged! He had the nerve to spend tax payer dollars on a taxi cab  . This was all after the election, in his lame duck days. So there was no political motive. The man showed me his character that day, and I wont soon forget it, because I haven't seen it from anyone else since then. Now, how do you think that story would have went with Kwame Kilpatrick? |

Now that is a wonderful anecdote and worth sharing. Thank you. |

Yes, and if you want to judge her on that, fine. I was referring to judging people on staying with their spouses who have cheated. |

I just don't think that this applie to this thread. This is supposed to be about Kwame...not on who may or may not run for Governor. And guess what, a lot of people have skeletons in the closet, many times the ones you least expect. Just because Dennis Archer did a great job as Mayor of Detroit doesnt' mean that he is an awesome husband (I'm not saying he isn't, I'm just saying we don't know). No matter what we don't know what goes on behind closed doors, only what is brought to our attention by the media. |

That is so true, LR. I had heard rumors years ago about our current mayor Kirksey. Doesn't make them true, only that I heard a rumor. And you are probably right, everyone has something they are trying to hide, be it good or bad. But so far, Mr Archer seems like a good and decent man. Let's hope if he does run for Guv, there isn't anything hiding there. I would be very disappointed. |

So, it looks like Mike Cox has been campaigning for a year already, and Dennis Archer seems to be very interested in running. Who else might run? What happens if Hillary Clinton wins (gulp) and appoints Granholm to a cabinet post? |

You really should leave Mrs. Cox out of your statements. I'm glad that you have such a perfect life and perfect marriage and live with a dog and a cat in Pleasantville, but some people do deal with real issues in their lives. Shame on you for bringing your judgements upon someone for choosing to stay with their spouse. I highly doubt you would want someone judging you for decisions you make regarding your family. |

  I hear you! But the wheels have started turning already. And if I have learned one thing, it is NEVER too early to start asking questions. This election could have a direct impact on our Governor, so they are both connected. So WHAATTZ UUUP!!?. Who will our next Governor be? We know it won't be Granholm, which will make a lot of people happy. |

I think Dennis Archer posesses a brilliant mind and is a man of great integrity. The problem I have with him running for governer is that he has not proven to be a very decisive leader. Michigan is going to need a governor that can make quick assessments and then act immediately on them to move the state forward. This seems to be Jenny's biggest flaw and has contributed greatly to the state's budget woes. He was a fine mayor but ultimately left office because he couldn't take the proverbial heat. With his sharp legal mind and impeccable credentials, Attorney General would probably be a better fit. Though I would give him a good look should he decide to run. |

There is no doubt about that Otis, and I agree with what you have said. If the Republicans do not bring a strong candidate though, I would have no problem at all voting for Dennis Archer. |

Link Dennis Wayne Archer (born January 1, 1942 in Detroit, Michigan) is a former president of the American Bar Association and former Mayor of Detroit. Prior to his election, Archer served as a justice on the Michigan Supreme Court from 1985 to 1993, as mayor of Detroit from 1994 to 2001. In his last year as a Michigan Supreme Court justice, he was named "most respected judge in Michigan" by Michigan Lawyers Weekly. As mayor, Archer worked to repair the city's relations with its suburbs and the local business community, which had long been less than cordial, through cooperation with suburban business leaders on their redevelopment plans for the city. Archer was a strong supporter and the catalyst for numerous construction projects in downtown Detroit, including new stadiums for the Detroit Lions and Detroit Tigers respectively. He also became president of the National League of Cities during his last year as Mayor of Detroit. However, as mayor he was never popular with loyalists of preceding Detroit Mayor Coleman Young. Young considered Sharon McPhail (a former member of the Detroit City Council) his rightful successor. In the 1993 race to succeed Young, Archer (who is black) did not win a majority of the black vote. Archer was reelected by a large margin in 1997, but was subject to a recall movement in his second term, launched by many of his original opponents. Archer refused to run for re-election in 2001. In October, 2004, he was appointed as legal guardian for civil rights activist Rosa Parks. In 2004 he was appointed to the Western Michigan University Board of Trustees by Michigan Governor Jennifer M. Granholm to serve an eight year term ending December 31, 2012. Archer is also the Chairman of Detroit-based law firm Dickinson Wright. Archer earned his B.S. in Education from Western Michigan University and taught learning disabled children in Detroit Public Schools from 1965-1970. He earned his Juris Doctor from the Detroit College of Law in 1970. Archer is a member of Alpha Phi Alpha, the first intercollegiate Greek-letter fraternity established for African Americans. He is also a member of Geometry Lodge #49, F&AM PHA: Prince Hall Freemasonry In February 2008, it was announced that Archer could possibly run for governor of Michigan in 2010. |
