Mayor Kirksey Welcomes International Trade Commissioners posted on - Friday, January 25, 2008 FROM THE OFFICE OF MAYOR JACK E. KIRKSEY – FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE January 24, 2008 – Livonia Mayor Jack Kirksey welcomed 19 International Trade Commissioners to the city January 16 at Roush Industries’ Plymouth Road Tech Center Headquarters. The Commissioners represented 15 countries from around the globe. They were in Detroit to preview the International Auto Show. “The Detroit Regional Chamber sponsored the Commissioners’ tour,” Mayor Kirksey said, “and the Chamber wanted to showcase a local company strong in automotive, yet progressive and talented enough to diversify their customer base to other sectors such as aeronautical and medical applications.” Roush Vehicle Operations Vice President Steve Sciatto provided Roush alternative energy vehicle inspections and conducted a working lunch to acquaint the Trade Commissioners with Roush capabilities. Various Roush officers followed with small group tours across the Roush Industries shop floors. “We jumped at this opportunity when the City asked if we would be interested in hosting the event,” Mr. Sciatto said. “The majority of the Trade Commissioners really displayed an amazing technical knowledge of engines and tremendous interest in our alternative fuels projects. Roush Industries is constantly seeking to broaden our customer base, and networking with 15 countries at one time afforded us tremendous global exposure and follow-up potential.” Roush Industries has 14 buildings in Livonia’s Industrial Corridor that houses some 40 million square feet of Class A and B Industrial space. The City has seen industrialists invest some $450 million in expansion activity since Michigan’s economy began to slump in 2002. The city boasted the lowest monthly unemployment average -- 3.2% -- of major Michigan municipalities in 2007. “We have Schoolcraft College, Madonna University and five satellite campuses in Livonia, a $35 million Community & Recreation Center, three public golf courses and more than 1,400 acres of parklands,” Mayor Kirksey said. “Add our great public school system, the growth of St. Mary Hospital and our aggressive roadway replacement program and quality of life issues have really helped us rise above Michigan’s recession.” |
