Well, golly gee whiz, I think you and I are in agreement here. I think there's change needed both from the union and in the individual teachers' mentality about their compensation. I had a coworker (whose wife is a teacher) recently telll me that he didn't think $90,000 a year with summers off and teacher pension and health care would be all that great a compensation package for being a teacher. We've had a few (heated) discussions about this here in the past, so I'll skip all the details I've stated before. Now, let's think about the part of your comment regarding allowing it to evolve. While I understand your point, it's also true that the nature of the beast is that change comes because some people, initially seen as haters, pests, malcontents and so on keep demanding it. Martin Luther King Jr. comes to mind as a poignant example. Keep that in mind the next time it's convenient to label and dismiss anybody challenging the status quo with the BOE. |

And also keep in mind that some may be very passionate, but for most the end result is the same. What is better for the students and the district as a whole is what really matters. |
