In addition to the soccer idea (which I think is great) there is also a need for a volleyball facility (maybe one place can handle both?) With the change of sports seasons for girls (baketball & volleyball) there is now a lack of gym time for off-season volleyball and many people from our area have to drive out to Wixom or Warren just to play good league volleyball. A place in Livonia would attract from all over, including downriver.

Nikki-When discussing the decrease in quality of education in LPS what time period are you referring to and specifically what do you think is a problem.  I am really interested to know why you think LPS has gone downhill. I have had children in the elementary schools for the last years and have not seen negative changes in that time.  In fact I see my youngest learning more in the earlier graes then my oldest did.  I also have been very impressed with the classes and quality in the middle and high schools.  Obviously this can vary from school to school but I moved to Livonia for the schools and have not been disappointed yet.  As far as Clarenceville goes .... People who substitute for both districts say without a doubt LPS has much better  behavior because of the expectations placed on the students and the policies regarding consequences when wrong choices are made.  As described by a substitute the difference is night and day and that at the middle and high school in Clarenceville it is difficult to teach anything because of the behavior problems.

Okay...I guess I shouldn't have compared Livonia to Clarenceville. I believe you are right about the behavior issues.

Speaking specifically about LPS, they are not the big draw they used to be. I, too, moved to Livonia for the school system. IMO, my kids are learning less not more (e.g. Everyday Math, Connected Math). I do not like the 5/6 configuration, the added transition or the size of the schools. Plain and simple, LPS is not what it used to be and I don't see things turning around anytime soon. IMO, the decline has occurred over the last 5 years.

Sorry for getting off topic.

It's not that they are bad, they are just not as good as LPS.

That is not the case anymore. Maybe 5-10 years ago......LPS not what it used to be.

So you are saying that Clarenceville has maintained while LPS has been slipping?

I do not have kids in Clarenceville. Yes, LPS is slipping---IMO.

Lynda Scheel is serving as President in her fifth year on the Board.

Cynthia Markarian is serving her third year on the Board.

Robert Freeman is serving his fifth year on the Board.

Tom Bailey is serving his fourth year on the Board.

Daniel Lessard is serving in his eleventh year on the Board.

Dr. Liepa has been the superintendent since 2003.

Oops, almost forgot good old Kevin Whitehead. What ever happened to Kevin anyways? What ever happened to his baord table confession that he was still a legal resident of the district and would challenge that residency? Why is it that he no longer has registered voter status in Livonia? Why did the BOE & President Scheel defend him so vehemently when he was actually not a resident? What was up with that? and look where it is noww, another balck mark on the LPS BOE record book.
