Hi All, It's election time again and we hope that you will remember to get out and vote on Tuesday, November 6th. Please indulge us by reading the comments below. We hope they will be helpful as you cast your ballot in this important election. As we have all shared and endured many trying moments together, over the past two years during the implementation of the Legacy Initiative, we wish to share a video clip that has surfaced concerning Mayoral candidate Jack Kirksey. Although we do not promote negative campaign pieces, this video does share some of the concerns voiced by community members during the past two years. Please take a moment to watch this video and make your own choice. Click here to play video Many residents are aggravated with Jack Kirksey. In some cases, that aggravation can be attributed to the following behaviors of Jack Kirksey: * He supported the Legacy Initiative, the biggest historical change to the LPS district and the Livonia community which closed 7 neighborhood schools. As you know, the LI may have contributed to the declining property values in Livonia . * He aggressively promoted and supported the implementation of the Legacy Initiative. * Kirksey has not and will not put residents or their children before his own LPS pension and consultant fees. The community, and it's prosperity comes second. * Kirksey also worked aggressively against the Recall campaign(slated to remove 5 BOE trustees in August of 2006). * He was also an active political cohort, campaigning diligently for school board incumbents (Scheel, Freeman and Oke) during the May 2007 election. * Kirksey also participated in, and perhaps engineered the negative campaign against BOE Trustee candidates Mang, McDonnell, & Futrell in May 2007(Detroit News article). * Finally, Kirksey is a very well-connected lobbyist with his hand in too many cookie jars! Further discussions have been heard, questioning the motives of City Council incumbants Mr. Brian Meakin, Mrs. Terry Godfroid-Marecki and Mr. Tom Robinson. Their actions and decisions regard various City Council issues have been controversial, at best. For example: Mr. Brian Meakin initiated a call to the Livonia Police while residents were legally collecting recall signatures at the Livonia Recreation Center . In doing so, Meakin attempted to violate our rights to Freedom of Speech. The petitioners were supported by Livonia police and allowed to stay. Mrs. Terry Godfroid-Marecki served on the LPS Demographics Committee as the Livonia City Council School Liaison. She did not notify city officials or the community of the biggest change to hit Livonia 's landscape in it's history. After a brief time on the committee she left for unknown reasons. Can we count on her to protect our most valuable jewel - our schools? Mr. Tom Robinson did nothing publicly, but privately endorsed the Legacy. He avoided the discussions by many. Robinson did nothing to protect Livonia 's greatest asset, our neighborhood schools. Many of us are quite aggravated with all of these candidates and their connections to many local developers (Schostak, Schaffer, Tissio, etc.). Their decisions regarding previous issues including the Wonderland Mall development, Millennium Park , Taco Bell, and Del Taco are suspect. Most recently, these incumbents supported the encroachment of a drive-thru restaurant onto personal property rights. They do not stand by their word. They simply 'sneak things in', hoping citizens won't notice. We do not believe many of these decisions were made with the best interest of residents in mind. In fact, these incumbents have often been unwilling or unable to defend their decisions. They seemingly take on the 'We Know Best' attitude--similar to some LPS administration and BOE members of the past. Now is the time to think about who will best represent the citizens of Livonia . These incumbents have a track record of supporting the developers and their own campaign coffers. It is possible that residents, not local politicians, know what is best for our city because residents are beholden to no one. Consider choosing new candidates for both Mayor and City Council. We have seen what their kind of experience buys, and it is time for change!!! |

VERY interesting that you are so against negative campaigning, yet you just posted a hit piece on Kirksey and the three council incumbents. I'm glad that it is ok for your side to do it, but not for anyone else. I think it's just great the when negative campaigning works out for you agenda, it is ok and righteous, but for anyone else to do it it is nasty and mean. The Toy piece was just plain out mean. But, the hit pieces on Maureen listed the same types of facts that you just listed in your post. You can say what you want, but at the end of the day you resorted to the same thing you have been complaining about this entire election: negative campaigning. I'm sure that post was emailed to many people, which is just the same as mailing it to someones house. Good job on proving the point of hypocrisy. |

Well LR, some people apparently believe in an 'eye for an eye'. I personally believe that negative campaigning works. If it didn't work, politicians would not engage in it. I am glad to see that Maureen is not following in Kirksey's footsteps with all the negative pieces. That, however, may be her downfall. I liken this piece to a bullying situation. If my kid is getting beat up repeatedly, I am going to advise he take the high road-for a while. Eventually though, after other avenues are exhausted, I am going to encourage him to fight back. Is that hypocritical? Not to me. It is simply fighting fire with fire. |

The difference between the two are that the piece you are talking about is giving facts. Where the slam pieces are taking bits and pieces of what has happened and twisting them, or, linking her to Graholm and assuming that she will follow in her steps. You can't compare the two. I wish Maureen would of fought back, but I guess that's where integrity and ethics come into play. Looks like Kirksey needs to get himself some of these, although, you know the saying, you can't teach an old dog new tricks. |
