This thread is a perfect reason not to vote for Kirksey people. Even when it is suggested that we all pounce on these idiots for the mailer, what do we get?

Time to express our outrage over the Laura Toy hit piece (s)

The Treasurer of the Citizens for a Better Tomorrow is listed on the Independent Political Committee cover page, October 25, 2007, is Todd Cook.

His residential phone number and his mailing address phone number is listed on this filing with the Secretary of State as 517-487-0315.

When calling this number you will get a company called Main Street Strategies.

I am encouraging as many people as possible to call this publically accessible phone number, recorded on filings with the State of Michigan in a public document, and ask for Todd Cook.

The message to leave if he is not there is simple:

Why do developers from West Bloomfield along with a company in Lansing Michigan want to spend thousands of dollars on a Livonia City Council election. You don't live in Livonia. You don't work in Livonia. Stay out of Livonia.

If enough people call they will get a sense of how upset Livonia is about these horrific campaign pieces of literatue being sent out about Laura Toy.

This phone number was obtained from a public document required when setting up a PAC.

I am as disgusted with the pieces as you are, but we know why it was done. The Democrats come up with these fancy little PAC's called Citizens for this and Citizens for that and their pieces are disgusting. At least Wayne 11 puts their name on campaign against pieces, they put their sources for their information and they are funded and from the areas they target. While you may not like their pieces against Maureen, you know where they are coming from and who they are coming from. The Dem PAC's created specifically for highly controversial pieces have no business in our community.

The Republicans may have sent that also Renee. It could have come from Marecki, Robinson, or Meakin. The incumbents are facing some stiff competition. It would not be the first time there was some in-party backstabbing going on. That is just as plausible as your theory.

Todd Cook's wife is the head fundraiser for Granholm. Why/how would the three incumbents get that PAC to do a specific mailer about Toy for them? Someone/Something does not want Toy around anymore, plain and simple. That's why it was so nasty and disgusting.

You tell me, because absolutely nothing would surprise me. The one thing that has really surprised me is that Maureen Brosnan has stayed out of the mud slinging. Personally, I think she will lose because of the dirty politics being displayed by Kirksey.

But I will vote for her, and wake up the next day with clear conscience regardless if she wins or loses :) . I have lost a lot of respect for many "leaders" in this town though.

It remains to be seen. I think it will be very close.

One thing I think that you do have to keep in mind, even though I know it is hard to do so..is that Wayne 11 put out the hit pieces on Maureen. A group that is in Livonia, Redford, Westland, and Garden City. It is funded by many different people. What they send out is neither approved or disapproved by anyone but Wayne 11 themselves.

Maureen did not come out against the pre-primary hit pieces that came out on Jack, so don't say that Jack should have came out against the Wayne 11 pieces.

Unless he sanctioned them eh?

It is kind of hard for Kirksey to come out against something he contributes to.

You must have not read my whole post:

Jack is not a member of Wayne 11

He certainly agrees with what they do if he donates money. I don't donate money to things I disapprove of.

If that is true, then Joe Laura must agree with those mailers too because he gives money to Wayne 11. In fact he was just at a fundraiser of theirs right after he announced his support for Maureen. Weird. Support Maureen, but then approve of the hit pieces on her by supporting Wayne 11....hmmmm

I didn't vote for Laura either. His handling of the Taco Bell along with the other council members was deplorable.

Jack was very vocal , and it showed, how upset he was with the first mailer before the primary. And he seemed determined to do something about it. If he had no idea, then we sure have a lot of people from outside Livonia working for his campaign also.

I understand what you are saying, but that is not what I meant about Jack.

My reference to Laura was just to show that if donate money to a group, it doesn't necessarily mean that you see everything--positive or negative--that they are going to send out during an election. Obviously Laura is supporting Maureen, so why would he approve of the hit pieces just because he gave money to Wayne 11 (I guess that in itself is a whole other conversation we can have after the election :-)

Wayne 11 is a separate PAC from any one candidate. And just like any other PAC, they do what they see best to achieve their goal.

By the way, thank you for debating this in a civil way. Like I told BoaterDan, we probably aren't going to agree at the end of the day, but at least we can have a decent discussion and possibly even learn something :-)

Here's something for you to think about, Renee, before you go off making half cocked accusations. Mind you, this is just a THEORY, but I believe it is possible that there are those running for re-election to the city council, or associated with those running for re-election, who are concerned that Laura Toy will do very well in the election. Whomever gets the most votes, wins the presidency. Did it ever occur to you that maybe someone from that team just wants to ensure that Toy does not take first place???? I'm not making any accusations. My point is, based on what little we all seem to know about this mailer, you cannot just leap to the conclusion that it was someone from the "Democratic" side. Until I know more, I will not point the finger at anyone or any group.

You did just point your finger at the other council candidates.
No, I did not. My point was that there are other people beside those snidly democrats that would/could have a motive to put out something like that. I did not accuse anyone.

Yeah, and the pope ain't Catholic. Kirksey can claim he has nothing to do with these pieces and that is part of his game, but if you look to see some of the folks who contributed to the Wayne 11th, the picture looks pretty clear. You know it, I know it and everyone else knows it. They are fooling no one. $29,000 from Mike Cox alone.

With the donations and expenditures showing via political PACs on both sides it becomes evident that the common citizen and uneducated voter has little or no chance at casting a fair and unbiased vote.

Such a shame. :(

One cannot donate $29,000. The PAC maxiumum is $10,000.

These people are a joke. They complain over and over again about how Maureen is 'jenniferized' and what a shame it is that Jenny donated so much money to her campaign, but then they completely admonish the entire list of Krooksey supporters from Wayne 11 who funded all the nasty mailers.

It is unacceptable for Maureen to even accept Democrat party $$ to use for her clean campaign, but it is okay for all Jack's supporters to contribute to a Republican PAC which exploits citizens by sending out ridiculously false mailers.

Can they hear themselves? They are such hypocrites--

THAT is not the point. The point is that Maureen keeps stating over and over that this in a non-partisan race. That is why the $10K donation from Granholm is being brought up.

That's right. So we should just ignore everything else, and sweep it under the rug....

This is my point, and lets be honest here LR. This isn't the first mailer from this PAC. When you donate, you know what you are getting. If Kirksey didn't approve, he wouldn't donate.

I have yet to see a negative mailer from Brosnan. It is my understanding that she would not allow this, and will not look the other way. She has gained a lot of respect for that. And since no one has a clue about who sent the mailer before the primary, what is she suppose to do? You haven't seen another, have you? Jack is connected to this PAC, and absolutely could have asked them not to send negative mailers.
