Bean and others are continuing with the same avoidance that you are annoyed with. I do not know Renee, but you can't just pick on her when others that agree with you are doing the same thing.
You can express your frustration with them all you want, but I have none since they are not avoiding answering my simple and straightforward question. If you must know, I consider most of what goes on here from both sides as background noise, but this was a direct question. Expecting an answer to such a question is not "picking on" someone, unless you're with some others in the zone where the only defense to any challeng question you don't like is to claim it's unfair.
Not at all. What was the direct question you asked?
Well, I have partial answers thanks to a post by somebody else, but the questions were: Did he cite examples of raising taxes as examples of his leadership? [Appears to from the video, his childish nonsense about voters making the ultimate decisions notwithstanding] Is he using fear that his opponent will raise taxes as a reason not to vote for her? [Yes, I just read it myself on his web site] Isn't that hypocritical?
Maybe ol' Jack was just for taxes before he was against them?
I don't think you can make that claim at all. I am against taxes, but I voted for the milleage for the Rec Center. I don't think by me voting for that makes me "for taxes".
Exactly.
That is why it is so idiotic to suggest that Maureen would be keen on raising taxes, even though she is a friend of Granholm.

It's not that she is a friend of. It's that she is getting a lot of monetary support from Granholm and Granholm is heavily supporting her. There is a difference in that than just being a friend. Generally one has many of the same viewpoints and beliefs as those who support them. Jenny likes taxes, a lot of them, and is backing Maureen in every way possible. Why would I not believe that Maureen would be in favor of raising Livonia's taxes?

Terry, you know better than to suggest that a Mayor can raise taxes.
Raising taxes has to be approved through a vote by the residents.

It still doesn't mean that I want a mayor who will be in support of and campaign for higher taxes.

Hmmm...Using your brand of logic
Jack Kirksey is friends with Mike Cox. Mike Cox spent a lot of money on this campaign. Therefore, Jack Kirksey will cheat on his wife if elected mayor.

What?
Taxes are part of politics. Democrats support higher taxes, and proved that when they just raised ours.
Infidelity is not a political issue on either side. Democrats and Republicans both have cheated.
Your response proves you have nothing to back up what I said about Maureen and the Governor.

Read my lips: No new taxes.
Hello! Both Democrats AND Republicans have given us new taxes.
What does that have to do with the Mayor of Livonia, who must get voter approval for any tax increase?

Honestly as far as the video is concerned I can't take it seriously at all. It's a cut and paste of a bunch of different things. It doesn't look like the answers to the questions were really answers to those exact questions. It sounds like someone made changes to the questions. The woman's voice is not the woman from the LWV forum, so where is she from?
I understand what you are saying. There is a HUGE difference between raising taxes and putting a school or building milleage on the ballot. I understand that Maureen cannot personally raise state income taxes, but the negative piece on her is showing her strong ties and support to someone who did. Therefore, if she supports someone like that, who is to say that she will not support a Headlee rollback or some other type of TAX increase for the city.
On a personal note, I'm not a big milleage person either, but I am happy with the Rec Center, and if I see that the schools are using their money wisely and seriously do need an increase in the Sinking Fund or something I give serious consideration to voting for it ( don't believe I have voted for one yet--just on a side note).
Having a mayoral candidate with any potential to support a TAX increase in Livonia is Bad for Livonia, just as our new income tax increase and service tax is Bad for Michigan.
That's the best way that I can explain it, I think it's easier to have a conversation as opposed to trying to explain on a thread. I'm sure I didn't give answers that you like, but I did my best to answer them, let me know if you have any others. :-)
No, that's a perfect start. So refreshing to have somebody who can discuss these matters intelligently instead of just spewing infantile drivel like Renee.
The video overall is obviously to be taken with a grain of salt, as is ANY campaign material.
But the simple fact is, in whatever context it came from, he said repeatedly that "we went out" for several taxes. "Tax" was his word in the video, not a fabrication or something lifted out of a different context. So, it seems to me you're trying to split hairs that don't exist.
HE gave examples of how HE "went out for" tax increases - his words. And now he is saying we should be afraid of someone who will raise taxes.
Besides, at the end of the day how does it matter whether it's a true tax or something else - it's all money out of my pocket, and all matters not directly under the control of the mayor as the voters have to decide.
Let me say for the record that if I knew nothing else about two candidates except their party affiliation, I would always opt for the Republican because they TEND to be more likely in alignment with my positions on a wide range of issues. But there have certainly been Democrats I would vote for, as there have been very conservative Democrats and very liberal Republicans. Democrats like JFK that have been for cutting taxes, and Republicans that can't raise them fast enough.
Is there evidence that this particular Democrat embraces the "tax and spend" pattern? For Jack's campaign and his supporters to make accusations so wide and general as to be ridiculous suggests to this voter that he doesn't really have anything of substance to say. Ad hominem attacks are a sign of a person lacking in either intelligence, integrity, or supporting information.

Well said BD.
I would also like to add the statement of "Whatever you do, don't insult my intelligence as a voter, it will cost you at the polls!"

I will not disagree with you on that at all. However, the difference is that the first Bush is not funding Jack's campaign or strongly supporting him. And I can't say for sure, but I do not think Jack and Bush 1 know each other on a personal level

I believe that he did go out and support the milleage for the Rec Ctr. And that turned out to be a fabulous facility for the city! It's packed all of the time, has great jobs for teens and young adults. Perfect place to take your kids when its nasty outside. The Rec Ctr had to be funded by a milleage, there isn't any other way around it. If Livonia did't want they wouldn't have voted for it and they definitely wouldn't be utilizing it the way the are.
On the video, I'm not trying to split hairs, I just wasn't getting if it was one continuous interview or they were putting in things here and there. Does that make sense? I'm not saying that's what it is, just saying that's how I saw it.
I don't like to answer a question with a question, but is there any evidence that she doesn't support tax increases? In all seriousness.
I really do want to answer your questions, so please keep asking and I will. Not saying that we are going to agree at the end of the day, but we can at least have a decent discussion about it, and may even gain a little bit of knowledge :-)
