The good ol' boy network describes a system of social networking and perceptions alleged to exist prevalently among certain communities and social strata in the United States. Although the term originated in the South, these networks can be found throughout the U.S. and the rest of the Western world. It is typically taken to refer to informal legal, judicial, social, religious, business, and political associations among people In some areas, the good ol' boy network is said to still exert considerable influence over many aspects of local government, business, and law enforcement. Usage of the term can often imply a wrongful exclusion of others from the network; however, often the emphasis is on inclusion of a member, as in, "doing a good ol' boy a favor".

Some negative effects of the good ol' boy network are its exclusion of others, leading to leaders of a community possibly limiting business transactions to other elites, or to friends or acquaintances from within the network, to give friends better deals, and generally to reinforce traditional power structures over any other elements in the society.

The network also functions like any other social network inasmuch as governmental, business, and professional connections and concessions often develop via mutual friendships and introductions established through the network.

You don't really expect me to name names do you?

Thanks for the definition  . Well then why aren't we talking about Maureen????? She's got her own Network. The gov, the Wayne County Executive, Wayne County Commissioners...the list goes on and on.

cept Kirkseys are crooked....

If you are going to make that accusation, then tell me who is crooked and what they have done to be crooked. Please, enlighten me.

You, and they know who they are.

That is a real intelligent statement. If it were easy for you to point out you would. ;)

Sorry, but I'm not naming names (THAT wouldn't be intelligent).

Well, Jack is the master of dirty politics. He and his "good 'ole boys".

Well, now that the Toy hit piece has come and the stuff is being slung from both sides..I guess no one can stand on their "no more nasty politics" soap boxes.

Toy seems be be getting it from both sides. I don't know why that is.

That is a ridiculous answer that just proves that you are making comments with nothing to back it up. Heck, if you didn't want to name names you could have at least said why these certain unnamed people were crooks. You guys bash Renee about not having any backup for 'her candidate', but then you turn around and make comments like yours.

I didn't come to anybody's rescue. I simply asked AGAIN for you to answer a simple, straightforward and honest question. You continue to refuse to do so. Why is that Renee?

Last time I had this experience was with Joanne Morgan. Hmmmm.

I did not mean that Toy was getting it from both sides. I meant that both sides are now sending out negative hit pieces, etc. I was not implying that Toy was getting hit by both sides whatsoever. Just want to clear that up.

With no known connect to anyone except a Republican. So how is that the "non-Jack" side, aside from your complete guess?

I said Toy seems to be getting it from both sides. And that is exactly what I meant. I can't figure out who sent the slammer on Toy. It is not as easily defined as the slammer sent by Kirksey Republicans about Brosnan. Looks like it could be a disgruntled developer. It was pretty nasty.....

Even though voters tossed her out of Lansing last year, Toy is right back at the Capitol getting paid our hard earned tax dollars.

You get the picture. It seems personal to me. I need to fix my scanner, and when I do, I will post every piece that I get for everyone.

As disgusting as the piece is on Toy, there is a difference between that piece and the swill that the Kirksey camp is putting out on Brosnan and that is, there are no untruths on the Toy piece. It is just mean, nasty. The hit peices on Brosnan are despicible because there are no true statements to be found on them.

The one I'm looking at right now says that under Brosnan these things will happen:
Raise your income taxes. WRONG. CAN'T BE DONE. THE MAYOR HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH STATE INCOME TAXES.
Launch a new tax on service. WRONG. THE MAYOR PLAYS NO ROLE IN STATE TAXES.
Move 5000 Quicken Loan jobs to Detroit. DO YOU REALLY THINK ANY MAYOR WOULD SUPPORT SOMETHING LIKE THAT? AND LAST I CHECKED, QUICKEN IS STILL HERE.
Use Livonia tax dollars to fund Detroit buses. HOW CAN THEY MAKE SUCH A CLAIM? LIVONIA HAS ITS OWN SYSTEM, CORRECT?

I don't know how the Kirksey people can even get away with such BS.

I remember after Toy lost the last election, there was a Det News article about how many of the "losers" had quickly landed jobs in state government anyway. It specifically named her.

Raise your income taxes.  WRONG.  CAN'T BE DONE.  THE MAYOR HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH STATE INCOME TAXES.
Launch a new tax on service.  WRONG.  THE MAYOR PLAYS NO ROLE IN STATE TAXES.

I don't know how the Kirksey people can even get away with such BS.

It's the MO of every Kirksey style campaign. The telltale signs were obvious during his first election run for Mayor, the whole Legacy Initiative debaucle, and now his current campaign.

It is Voter deception, misdirection, and tactics meant to solicit emotional responses that will override the clear and logical thought process every voter should go through before casting anything as important as a vote.

Some political campaigns rely very heavily on this type of tactic since they do not have either strong candidates, strong platforms, lack grass root citizen support, and are perceiving themselves as generally weak, and need to take any opportunity to deceive the voters just to win.

And it's all about winning when campaigns use these tactics, because if it was about the voters, like you and I, we wouldn't be having the wool pulled over our eyes so we can't see clearly when we get to the polls.

All they want is to win at any cost, but the cost is ultimately the price you and I pay for letting campaigns like Kirksey's allow him to be elected.

From the Kirksey website
Read between the lines to see who was heavy handed.

June 5, 2007 Press Release

Today, Jack Kirksey, who served 8 years as Mayor of Livonia from 1996-2003, filed to become a candidate for mayor once again. During his tenure, Mayor Kirksey lead the effort to create the Community Recreation Center, established a 10 year road improvement program; and, held the line on spending while maintaining city services during Livonia's toughest economic times.

"Opening the Community Recreation Center and ensuring all city roads are in good condition were just part of my vision for Livonia. We must now look at further innovative programs such as making Livonia a wireless community and establishing a redevelopment plan for struggling properties," said Jack Kirksey.

"Jack Kirksey has a proven track record and plan for Livonia's future." said Wayne County Commisioner Laura Cox. "Because of his foresight, Mayor Kirksey began the process of down sizing government without laying off one employee long before the economic downturn . In all of Mayor Jack Engebretson's state of the city speeches he has cited Mayor Kirksey's decision to institute a hiring freeze as a key reason for Livonia's fiscal strength.

"Jack Kirksey brings people togenther for a common purpose and acheives results. He builds bridges between people and groups from all walk of life,: said former State Senator Laura Toy. "Mayor Kirksey works with business, government and educational leaders to attract business which helped Livonia maintain low unemployment and vacancy rates."

Both John Pastor, and Toy, who had considered running for mayor, have decided not to enter the race and have agreed to provide their full support to Jack Kirksey. In addition to Toy and Pastor, Kirksey has already earned the support of numerous city leaders, such as Wayne County Commissioner Laura Cox, City Council President Jim McCann, City Council Vice President Don Knapp, Councilmember Brian Meakin, Councilmember Terry Godfroid-Marecki, and Councilmember Tom Robinson.

"Kirskey moved Livonia forward during tough econominc times. Because he took a personal interest in business development, I invested further capital in Livonia." said Bill Phillips who is the owner of PSI, Inc., which has six facilities in Livonia. "As Michigan struggles to revive the state economy, it is imperitive that Livonia return Jack Kirksey, a proven leader, to build on his many accomplishments."

"My family and I are humbled and grateful to receive an outpouring of support. My campaign will honor their trust and focus on ensuring Livonia's future," said Kirksey.

City Council President Jim McCann will serve as Chair of the Kirksey Campaign while City Council Vice President Don Knapp, Planning Commission Chairman John Walsh, and Mary Cambridge will serve as assistant campaign chairs.
