http://www.freep.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article...NEWS02/71024044 "A longtime Livonia resident who's been decorating a handful of homes on his block for Halloween for more than 20 years is being told by the city to take the display down, or else. Mike Kinney, who puts up the display with the help of his neighbors, says the city has given him until midnight tonight to take the decorations down or face misdemeanor charges for obstructing the public way. He says he's received three notices in the past week." This article had some pretty funny comments posted... |

That's too bad that they are making him take that down. This block is a legend. We have driven our kids over for years to this street just so they can see how cool it is. The display gets bigger every year, and I don't think it blocks the street or the sidewalk in any way. I wonder if there is a new neighbor who doesn't like it and has complained about it? If that's the case that's sad, it's only up for a couple of weeks and the kids all love it. So do lots of adults too. |

I was there last night with my kids. The neighbors have a petition that you can sign - kids too. I don't understand. That neighborhood is so cool at Halloween. |

That's really too bad. I get the feeling that Mayor Egebretson will get something worked out though. I would sign the petition if you go by. |

Our kid's ALWAYS cap off their Halloween night by heading to Haunted Howell! They dare each other to see who goes first and which ghouls are fake and which one's will jump out at you. They have a blast!! |

Is this something that city council could get involved in?....if so, they should. It would be the right thing to let this guy keep his entire display up. |

I think our city should focus on things that are more important such as putting back some of those stop signs that have been removed. There are many dangerous 4 ways in the city and some of them are down right dangerous. Let's focus on what's important, OK? |

I agree, we should have WAY more important things to be concerned with...are the city inspectors that slow?...maybe there should be some layoffs? |

I have never been to to 'Haunted Howell.' I know some are squeemish about Halloween displays that celebrate blood and gore (such as Friday the 13th, Dawn of the Dead, and Exorcist films) - but I don't know if that is accurate about this house. What do (or did) the displays look like? |

They had a movie screen outside playing "It's A Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown" when we went this week. I wouldn't consider it gory. They have a blowup path that goes around the sidewalk and stuff on the city easement. That's probably what the city is giving them a hard time about. |

We went there in the daytime, I want to be able to see what's coming at me. I heard a blurb about the home on the national news (radio) today. That should be front page coverage for Sunday's LO |

Blaine, Lisa and Allison were talking about it this morning on WDVD, 96.3. Blaine had stopped by the house yesterday afternoon and was going to have the home owner on later this morning. A guy called in and offered to pay all the fines and even do the 90 days. This is really embarrassing for our city, but I have had dealings with our 'holier than thou' city inspectors during my house remodel. I'm not sure it's just our city, though, I've heard friends complain about other cities as well. |

Well if you are one of the "chosen"developers in this city. You can do just about anything with hardly a slap on the wrist. Tear down buildings with no inspector present, change site plans with neighbors not notified, put drive throughs in open till 4 am. But for the regular citizen watch out. You better make sure those garage sale signs are up correctly! And no funny stuff up at Halloween, at least not on city easements. |

Tell me about it. They act like the "Gestapo" of Livonia. Very arrogant and very rude. I guess they have nothing better to do than harass the residents of this city. |

Does anyone know if this is the only person being asked to take down their display? My kids also love the Howell house, and go there every year. We also go over to Doris south of 7 to check out a house there that has a great display. I'm wondering if this is a isolated knee-jerk reaction by the City from a complaint, or if they are enforcing this across the city.

There's a house on Purlingbrook that decorated for years. This year they didn't. Wonder if they had complaints, and decided it's not worth the headache. It was a great display. |

A few years ago there was a home on a north/south running street that had witches? goblins? flying throught the air and characters resembling "Night of the Living Dead" strolling through the street and appearing at your car. It may have been in Redford. That was scary! |
