Maybe Renee, it's time to look for other things to do with all of your time. It's seem to be such a waste of effort and energy.  The holiday's are coming, why don't you help out a charity or food bank, instead of posting garbage and anger all day long.

This has to be the funniest thing I've seen here in a very long time! This blog wouldn't exist if it weren't for people who need to find other things to do with their time AND who post garbage all day long

Actually, this forum wouldn't exist, at least in this incarnation, if it weren't for the very poor way in which the Legacy Initiative was handled.

And now my political response...

Well George, that is your assumption I am angry. If you get that I am angry from my posts that is your interpetation. Two sides to every story. Just offering the other side.

Renee is not angry at all. She LOVES doing this. Right Renee?

The 1999 Detroit News article (quoted on page 5 of this topic) is a bit incorrect, according to a more current site, or this community profile of the Rec Center is incorrect. It refers to the completed project.

http://www.communitylink.com/us/mi/livonia/profile/rec.htm

2003 Community Profile
Recreation

Already rich in recreational resources and facilities, in 1999 the citizens of Livonia voted to approve an 8/10 of a mill increase to fund the construction of a new state-of-the art Community Recreation Center and make improvements to existing recreational facilities.

Opened in March 2003, the new $30-million community recreation center is equipped with all the latest bells and whistles. The 130,000-square-foot facility includes four gyms, a gymnastics center, an aerobics room and a state-of-the-art fitness center.

The complex also includes pools — a competitive pool and a warm-water lap and play pool with slides and toys. An indoor suspended track rings the facility, while an in-line skating rink, skateboard park and soccer fields are located outside.

Other components include a climbing wall, indoor child playroom, child watch and senior center, a party room, and, at the center of the complex, 15,000 square feet of common-area space with a generous lobby.

The Livonia Family YMCA has been a valued community resource since 1968. Its successful fund-raising events, including the annual Partners with Youth auction, help ensure no one is turned away from YMCA programs, membership and services because of inability to pay.

The building is 80,000 square feet, with a state-of-the-art Wellness Center, five indoor tennis courts, five outdoor tennis courts, two gymnasiums, an indoor pool, racquetball courts, free-weight room, YMCA ChildWatch babysitting and outdoor equipment. Summer and vacation day-camp and Indian Guides are among the branch’s most popular programs.

An Americans with Disabilities Act-compliant shower and locker area, family change rooms, and a new youth-sports fieldhouse are the latest additions to the Livonia Family YMCA branch facility.

The Livonia Branch has an average of 4,000 members and continues to grow. Families constitute 80 percent of the total membership. More than 300 individuals serve as volunteers.

The Livonia Parks and Recreation Department offers a wide variety of athletic programs for adults and youths. Livonia is ranked second in Michigan in terms of the amount of land set aside for public use and ranks among the top 25 nationally.
I'd agree with you, but then we'd both be WRONG.

I know you really want to have a reason to not like Jack, but it was City Council who unanimously approved the plans for the Rec Center:

On a motion by Engebretson, seconded by Pastor, and unanimously adopted, it was:

CR 21-01 RESOLVED, that having considered the report and recommendation of the Capital Improvement Committee, dated December 18, 2000, submitted pursuant to Council Resolution 402-96, in connection with the construction of the Livonia Community Recreation Center, the Council does hereby approve the program for design of the Community Recreation Center as generally shown on the floor plans prepared by Neumann Smith & Associates (the “Architects”), dated December 8, 2000, with the competitive pool having an 8-lane width and a 25 meter length as shown on such plans, and a movable floor in the shallow end; and the architects are hereby authorized to proceed to prepare a schematic design on the basis of such program, with outdoor spray areas, volleyball courts and storage facilities as options subject to further approval of the Council.

Interesting RC, so it can't all be laid at Jack's door then can it. All sitting members of the city council at that time would be responsible for voting for those changes correct?

However, you implied that that is why the vote went the way that it did. Well it was unanimously approved which means even those few that weren't Jack's 'anoinntees' voted for the changes. Therefore proving that people can make up their own minds and are not just puppets for us to watch. They must've voted for them because they liked the changes.
