Joss had paced up and down the hallway. She knew which one was Conal's apartment by his smell. But she was having a hard time approaching it. This was sorta outta her comfort zone. She'd never been in a position of authority. She'd always followed orders not given them. People could probably sense that at the bar. Hence the bartenders giving her a hard time. Hiring someone shouldn't be that hard! She stopped in front of Conall's door. She took a few deep breaths. "Hey wondering if you need a job? Hey wondering if you want a job? Hey wondering if your looking for a job?" She whispered to herself trying to figure out how to ask this. She stood there talking to herself for a few moments before finally reaching up and gently rapping on the door. |

Conall suspected it was Joss at his door. Who else knew where he lived? But he was careful. He'd been caught off guard far too many times in the past. There were some powerful players in this city, he'd learned while eavesdropping at bars. Not to mention hosts of supernatural beings. Who knew what could be awaiting him. He had been exercising and didnt bother to put his top on, simply grabbing his broadsword and wrenching the door open, holding the great blade in one hand, ready to strike, a snarl already forming on his lips. He relaxed a bit when he saw it was her and dropped the snarl but couldn't find anything to say. Should he apologise? Should he ask her how she was? He didnt know much about social interaction that didnt involve killing the other person so he simply looked at her, waiting for her to speak. |

Joss couldn't help the squeak that came out of her as the door flew open to reveal the sweaty, barechested, sword weilding Conall. She put her hands up in the universal 'i'm not armed I mean you no harm signal' and took a step back. When he didn't say anything just stared at her she wanted to curl up in on herself. "I'm sorry." She started her voice faint. "I didn't mean to interrupt. I just... when you get a chance... when your done I didn't mean to interrupt." She rambled. "When if you can I wanted to... I'm in 3F when your done. Wanted to ask... come by.. when your done." She kept repeating like an idiot. What the hell was rong with her. Why the hell was he carrying a sword? Joss turned ready to run with her proverbial tail between her legs. |

He had scared her. He hadnt meant to. He lowered his sword and wiped the sweat from his forehead with a forearm. "I'm sorry." he rumbled. "I didnt mean to startle you. I...its just...cant be too careful." he finished lamely. He was almost struggling as much as she was. This was rediculous. He leant the sword against the wall by the door and made his stance less aggressive. "Um...would you like to come in?" he said. Why did he ask her that?! Why would she possibly want to enter his dingy apartment?! Wait..what did he care what his apartment looked like? He was a warrior not a maid. Her opinion didn't matter anyway, he lied to himself. |

She turned back as he spoke. She watched him flounder as much as she did. It was kinda nice to see someone else floundering like she usually did. And yet she knew he wasnt a submissive like her. He was definatly dominant, probably even alpha. "Umm...I guess." She said taking a step towards him, now that he had put the sword down. She started making her way towards his door. "I really just came by to uh... ask you a question." She said pausing in the door frame. But he had invited her in and she never turned down pleasantry, especially from someone she considered alpha to her, (which was pretty much everyone). So she stepped inside his apartment which looked like it hadn't been cleaned before he moved in. |

He forced himself not to be ashamed of his dingy apartment. At least he had cleaned up the cat mess that had been left in the corner. He looked at her, the smaller, sighter, younger creature before him. Even with her lycan strength she was not a patch on his years of power. What was her position in the werecat society of this city? Was she even a part of it? Or was she an outcast like him? No, that was too much to hope for. A pack needed each other. If she was already part of one she didnt need him. He should be used to lonliness by now. He should shrug this off before he got his hopes up. But he didnt want to. "Er..you said you wanted to ask me a question?" he said. |

Joss stood inside his apartment. Glancing around the floor anywhere but at him. There seemed to be an awkward silence between them. Finally she mustered up her courage, shoving her hands into the pockets of her cargo shorts and started speaking. "Yeah I was wondering if you by any chance were looking for a job? The way you handled that situation inthe club today. WIth no blood shed and all. Well I talked it over with the owner. And he agreed I could hire a bouncer and if you were looking for a job, well I'd like to hire you for that position." She said as if in all one breath she put it all out there. Finally she looked up at him to see his reaction and response. |

A job? Well he did need a job. He needed the money. It was his kind of job too. And why shouldn't he take it? But they were still uncomfortable around each other and something would have to be done about that if they were going to live this close and work together. A wild thought struck him. Something he and his pack used to do together. Yes she was a cat, yes she was about to be his boss despite the fact he was dominant (that might be awkward) but maybe he could share some sort of bond with her. That would need to happen before he could work for her. "Do you have any plans right now?" he asked, ignoring her question for the moment. His voice had recovered some of its Irish accent and he even showed her a slight smile. |

That was certainly not the reaction she was excpecting. The question caught her so off guard that she stood there dumbfounded for a moment. She noticed his, what she thought was, normal gruff features attempting to smile at her. "I..." She started. Marcus might stop by, like he had before, but he'd always sorta warned her about coming over and she had no indication that he would be by tonight. Of course she had been so busy working and her brief discussion with Marcus purely work related. "No.. no plans at the moment." She finally answered still not sure what that had to do with her job offer. |

"Follow me then." He said, adding "And dont be afraid" as an afterthought. He led her to the nearest window, sliding it open and climbing out onto the fire escape. It was a good night for what he had planned. The air was cool, the moon was high and near full and the sky was clear. He began his ascent, checking every now and then that she was still following close behind. It didnt take long for them to reach the flat roof of the Luxemburg Apartment building. From here he could see some way over the city although it was not too far a jump to the next roof. Perfect, he thought, smiling to himself. Had he realised he was smiling he would have been quite taken aback. |

When he lead her to the window, after telling her not to be afraid, of course that's exactly what she did. Of course she still followed him, it was just her nature to follow the more dominant, which could of course be bad for her but she followed Conall. She felt her beast stirring. The pull of the nearly full moon making it stir. She knew it wouldn't just bust out, it couldn't really, so she wasn't worried. She followed him up the fire escape to the roof. She looked around at the night sky then down to Conall who was smiling. Actually smiling not a small smirk not a slight pull of the lips but smiling, and it wasn't even scary. "What are we doing up here?" She asked curiously. |

"I want to see your other side, Joss." he said to her. He removed his clothing and lay it on the ground. He was not the least bit ashamed or embarressed about his nudity. In his day they had gone to war naked. Then, he transformed. His muscles bulged and swelled while his form stretched and grew. Thick greying auburn fur spilled out over his skin and his fingernails blackened and lengthened into claws. The green colour of his eyes paled and then flooded into a bright yellow. There was a sickening noise as his skull changed shape. Now he stood before her as a 7ft tall creature with the head of a wolf. Scars from years of battle traced their way through the forest of his fur. "Show me." he said, his voice different in this form but with no hint of aggression. |

Her eyes widened as he answered her question so simply. Then suddenly he was naked before her. Joss averted her eyes only slightly. She knew it was necessary to shift and if he was fine being naked in front of her she should not be embarrassed. And she wasn't, it just wasn't exactly a comfortable situation though. She did stumble back as immediatly he started shifting. When he grew to the seven foot half man half wolf creature she cowered. He was clearly alpha. Only Derrick, her old pard leader, had been able to take the half form. His son could from the claws but not the true half form. Did he expect her to change into that? And he had done it so quickly. She gasped as he spoke in the form. "I... I can't do it fast as you." She said even as she kicked off her shoes and undid her shorts letting them drop to the floor She turned around then stepping out of them. She pulled off her T'shirt so nervous just then she forgot to be modest about the jagged claw marks that covered her from naval to hip on her right sight. Marcus's bite mark was hardly noticeable amongst them there. Joss quickly discarded her bra and underwear. She then got down on all fours. She called to her beast. ASking it to come to the surface willing it to, but not letting it. Her head hung between her arms as she tried to call her beast. She could feel it there right under the surface clawing to get out. She grit her teeth begging it to be quick this time. Sweat glistened on her skin in the moonlight as she fought to shift. It was a good 3 minutes before there was any sign of her shift fur finally started growing, her fingers pulling together and started growing claws. She glanced over her shoulder at Conall saying her last words before she couldn't say anymore. "I'm sorry." She whispered gutturally before the shift took her 7 minutes after her initial start where Joss had been on all fours now stood a light tawny leopard with dark spots and a stark white stomach and paws. Joss's hazel eyes looked up at Conall, the only indication that the cat that now stood there was Joss. Her cat was small for a leopard, though larger then joss herself. |

So she had scars too. But something about them told him they weren't acquired in the same way as his, although it was possible a play fight had simply gone to far as sometimes happens. But he noticed grimly another vampire bite nestled amongst them. How many times had she given herself to the leech? She couldn't take the half form either. He was a little disappointed until he reminded himself of their age difference. He had no idea how long she had had her gift. Maybe she didnt train it at all. That was a definate possiblity considering how long it took her to change. But he would not pass comment and would not judge her harshly. When she had finally reached her leopard form, Conall was pleased. And handsome specimin, he noted. "I have the power to commune with birds and beasts." he said to her. "So you will be able to understand me and I you. There is no need to apologise. You just need to learn to harness your beast. Tell me, how long have you had your gift?" |

The leopards head cocked as Conall spoke to her. The part of her that was still Joss comprehended what he was saying but the beast was slowly trying to take command and even her cat was submissive. It could smell the dominance eminating from the wolf. It wanted to back away or bow down and follow but it was confused that it was not a cat. That cat layed there looking up at Conall as he spoke. Joss tried to pay attention and not get caught up in the smells of the night as her cat wanted to do. *14 months.* She thought at him not sure how else to comunne with him. Purring or growling didn't have any meanings to her except to call out to others or to call out a kill. SLowly she got up to her feet. Not sure what to do. Could he help her fight her beast. Derrick had told her how to shift but he'd never really taught her. Maybe Conall knew something he could teach her. He was speaking like he did. |

Ah that explained it. Only 14 months old. A mere pup. "Do you have a mentor then? Do you have kin in the city? A pack?" Perhaps if she didnt he could teach her something. But that would come in time. Right now he was dying to let himself go a little and he wanted her to join in. But could she let herself go without loosing it totally? |

She was pleased he had somehow understood her. She glanced up at him as he spoke. The cat shook its head no as he asked about a mentor and kin. *No. I left my pard... my pack before they kicked me out* She thought though also attatched to the thought though she didn't mean to make it heard was *or before they killed me.* The cat put it's head down as if shameful. "I've just recently met another cat but have found no pard here yet. I have no mentor. My old Pard leader... he... he told me what to do.. what was expected.* Joss though as the cat started getting antsy it was harder to think straight. The cat started sharpening it's claws on the tar of the roof. Joss still tried to keep herself and her beast seperate. It was part of what made her shift so hard. |

She was an exile like him! He was stunned for a second. Perhaps they were ment to find each other. Perhaps after all these centuries he didnt have to be alone anymore! "I know that pain." he said softely to her. He saw her sharpen her claws and remembered what it was like to be young again. "You are having trouble with the beast." It wasnt a question. "I do not completely fight my beast. We are one and the same, not enemies. You must become it alittle, succumb to it alittle. It will keep you alive. It will set you free. Here. Close your eyes. Listen to your heartbeat. Can you feel the beast? The pure instinct? It’s taking in every scent and sound now your eyes are closed. What does it tell you Joss? To hunt, to feed, to mate, to flee and to fight to your last bitter ragged breath to stay alive. Let it out alittle. Now run Joss. Run with me!" Conall turned and bounded away, his hulking form somehow fluid and agile as he lept the short distances between rooftops. |

Joss's eyes looked up at him sharply from within the cats face at his declaration that he knew that pain. Her mind raced. He certainly couldn't have been the lowest of a pack like her. Treated like scum forced to fight when she wouldn't submit to an asshole. He had the right to kill her. Maybe should have killed her. Joss roared softly trying to clear her head she focused on her beast. Conall spoke to her telling her not to fight. How could she not fight it. If she didn't fight it it would consume her. She closed her eyes though. DOing what he told her. She could smell everything, him, the dumpster in the alley, the chinese take out place down the street. Everything he was saying was in a way true. HUnt yes... feed yes... Her eyes snapped open at his third statement so she didn't hear the rest. Her mind started to think but he was already going on challenging her then he was off running. Without though she sprung, sailing after him. She was fluid easily clearing the gap between rooftops. Soon she was right beside him. She was small and fast, though she may not be strong. She challenged him racing ahead she leapt to another building. Challenging him to keep up with her smaller form. Run... play... jump... glide On one rough she did a hard stop turning around to run back the way she came. running past him and back onto the roof she had just vacated. Glancing over her shoulder to see if he would follow. |

She ran! Yes! Soon she was abrest with him, then beyond him. Then doubling back on him. He had to surpress a yelp of glee as he turned and skidded onto all fours like a sprinter and shot after her. He had played like this in years! She was certainly quicker than him while he ran on two legs. Time to challenge her a bit. He knew both their beasts would appriciate a challenge. Now he would drop to all fours every few paces for an extra boost, giving a playful snarl as he drew up alongside her again. "Run! Run little one! Run becc!" he yelled gleefully. |

The glee in his voice was infectious. She ran back to their own building's roof then beyond it as he pulled up beside her. Her claws dug into the rooftops for more traction pushing herself further. She actually went to push her shoulder into him as he went to all fours beside her. Trying to slow him down knocking into him. Though she thought she must be like a gnat swatting a dog she was so much smaller then him in this state. But still she sprinted her voice laughing. It had never been like this with her pard. They had all been fast too. And if she tried to run with them they had always nudged and pushed her aside. If they did a kill none would let her near until there was nothing but the awful left to eat. This... this was completely different and exhilirating. Forgetting herself, loosing herself in the beast she roared loudly as she flew to the next rooftop. |

He raced her and for a second, he fancied she actually barged him with her shoulder. That was playing in its true form. She had given way to the beast more readily that he thought. He had thought her a bit domesticated at first but he was obviously wrong. “Run! Run becc! Let me hear you roar.” With that, Conall unleashed a great howl into the air, arching his back and raising his arms slightly from waist height. |

It was easier to run, to be the beast when she was in it's form. What was becc though? Was he belching at her. Suddenly she came to a skidding halt instead of jumping to the next building. She walked slowly putting her front paws onto the edge of the building. She stood there and gave a roar, nowhere near as ferocious as a lion but for her it was more then a purr so it was something. She stood there just taking in the night. It was her first change away from the pard. The first change where she didn't have run because someone wanted to hurt her. She just stood there head moving this way and that taking everything in. Conall may have wanted her to run and roar. But she needed this moment. |

She stopped and gave a roar as best she could. She was not too far ahead of him when she skidded to a halt and he followed suit. "Good. Good," he soothed. "You can change back whenever you like. But remeber Joss, no matter what form you are in, you are the beast and the beast is you. I will be your mentor, your teacher, if you so wish but you must never fight against what you are. Take your time. Change when you're ready or not at all if you want to return this way." He stood, panting slightly in the cool night air. She was a good runner and no mistake. Perhaps all cats were simply faster than he, he did not know. All he could think of was the feeling of wind through his fur again and the hope that maybe, juts maybe, he had found someone he could share a bond with. Maybe he didnt have to be alone anymore. |

Hazel eyes with a slightly more amber hue blinked up at him as he stopped beside her and spoke. *Mentor?* She thought. *Help me... can you help me make my shift easier?* She asked turning on him. She looked around as he went on about shifting back. *You want me to walk home naked? We may be comfortable with nudity but not everyone here is like us. I can't make these jumps in human form either." She said then suddenly turned. *RACE YA BACK!* SHe cried as she took off without warning. She leapt easily her mind racing wondering if he could help her with her shifts. Shifting to cat was hard. Shifting back was usually excruciating for her. She sometimes passed out after the shift back. Mayhaps all these thoughts running through her was why she wasn't quite as fast as before but she skidded to a halt on top of their building. |

Race me back? he thought with a grin. He liked this girl. She had a hint of fiesty about her that he couldn't ignore and that could maybe grow. He charged back towards their building but she still beat him there. Her small, lithe form was faster than his. "I'll do everything I can to help you get in touch with your primal side." he assured her. "If you want me to be, I'm here." He kept a careful eye on her incase she had lost too much of herself to the beast. |

Her cat face was grinning, though it may have looked like a snarl, as he landed after her. She made a couple quick circled as she watched him change so quickly. As if nothing was hard about it. SHe then slowly padded over towards where her own pile of clothing was. She then layed down on the roof. Her cat eyes closing. She strained fighting like her cat did to get out. She fought to bring her human side out. The cat mewled as if in pain. Her back stiffened claws tearing up some of the tarred roofing as she fought to gain back control. She tried to remember what Conall had said. She was the beast and the beast she. There should be no fighting it should be easy right. But she wasn't used to that ideal. The mewling started turning to more human cries and whimpers of pain as her body crackled and popped back to it's human form. Shrinking to her dimutive size the fur receeded. The claws retrated. Her eyes still closed she was revealed on all fours. Whimpering in pain sweating in exhaustion. Finally when it felt right she felt herself she opened her eyes ceasing to concentrate. She was breathing heavily she collapsed onto her stomach on the roof. To exhausted to move just yet. |

He listened to her mews of pain and half-remembered how hard it had been to change at the beginning. Especially when learning the half form. He shuddered at the mistakes he had made. He knelt beside her and stroked her flank as she lay in her human form, curled up in pain. "Its ok, its ok Joss." he whispered softely. "Its painful for all at first. You will become used to it. Your beast needs your human form as much as your human form needs your beast. You will grow accustomed to it and one day, when you can mix your human mind with your beast instinct, you will take on the half form for yourself. I am here for you and I will guide you." |

Joss couldn't help but flinch as he touched her side. She rolled slightly so more of his back was towards him and the scar was pressed against the roof. His words sent relief through her though. The others of her pard had made fun of her for how long it took her to shift, for how much pain she had been in. Derrick didn't quite them but he used to at least keep them away from her while she was vulnerable. She snorted a little at the idea of her reaching half form. "Only alphas and dominants can reach the half form." She said as if resigned to the fact. She pushed herself up slightly. Bracing herself on one hand she pulled her tshirt over. Then sat up fully her back to Conall as she pulled the Tshirt on. Her body was shaking a little with the exhaustion. |

He pulled his hand back as she flinched. He didnt want to make her uncomfortable anymore than neccassary. But he did see that it was her scars she wanted to hide. She was ashamed of them then. She had spoken of her 'pard' wanting to hurt her, maybe even kill her. "I have no pack, I have no family and yet I can reach the half form with ease becc. How could I be alpha over no-one? In my tribe, many could reach the half-form wihout being dominant. But in our time there was much war and the half form was need to survive. You do not need a alpha's blood to reach the half form, only the willpower and the training to do so." He stopped stroking her when she sat up as she was more in control and needed less of his encouragement now. "Where did you get your scars Becc?" he asked. |

"You're alpha over yourself." She whispered in response to his question. She wondered how old he was as he spoke of long ago times. His stroking had been comforting and yet alien to her. No one had ever done that for her... ever. But she couldn't just lay there and have him stroke her all night. So she started getting dressed. She froze just after squirming into her underwear from her half sitting position. Her back still too him as he asked about her scars. "Pard-mate. Challenged me even though he had no position to gain by challenging me. He was already second. I was last... so ..." She started choking up. "He went for the kill... why else would he challenge me. He showed off. Half changed just his claws and tried to tear out my intestins after beating me down." Joss said her voice flat and emotionless, her back still too him. She tried to keep the emotion out so she wouldn't think about the pain. When she was done speaking she reached for her shorts and pulled them on as well. Trying to distance herself from the pain but she felt the tears burning her eyes. It was still too new. |

"Theres no-one else for me to be alpha over," he said, his voice heavy with sadness. "Not for a long time now." So she had her scars from a pack mate. A fool too by the sounds of it. Challenging her for no reason. Wanting to kill her just to show off. She wasnt a warrior. She was no challenge. He growled at the thought of it. "Why would he do that to you?" he asked suddenly. Was hers a position of shame as his was? What had she done to deserve such a transgression of honour? |

His growl brought the tears out. She tried to blink them away but still they fell. She buttoned her shorts. Then was forced to wipe away her tears. "Cause he was a shauvinstic asshole. He thought he owned me. He made me... when I wouldn't be his whore like the rest of the women in the pard..." She trailed off. "His father was leader. His father liked me defended me. But he knew I wouldn't go to his father if he challenged me. He knew he could get rid of his mistake." Joss said suddenly popping up to her feet. She staggered moving to quickly. She grabbed the edging of the roof to steady herself. She swiped at the tears on her cheeks. "Cause he could... thats why." She whispered. |

He was startled at her tears but didnt show it. He was too angry at the figures of her past, of his past. In his mind they lined up before him, mocking and jeering. His face become stone. But here was a young woman who needed his help. He walked softly over to her and put a hand on her shoulder, the slightest pressure behind it asking her if she wanted to turn around and feel his embrace. "You're not with them now my becc. You're with me. I wont have you treated that way. You're not just my subordinate....you're my friend." As he said it the realisation hit him. After tonights escapade he had a friend. He had made a bond with someone. He wasnt alone anymore because she was an exile juts like him. She needhim as much as he needed her. He could teach her, train her and support her as an alpha should. All of a sudden, this place was home to him. She had made it so. |

His touch seemed to bring more tears. The slightest pressure he put behind it had her spinning, pressing her face to his chest, well she was short enough it was practically his stomach. She presed herself there. He had offered her comfort and now she wanted it needed it. She looked up at him. Tilting her head back as he spoke. She smiled as he said friend. She had a friend. SOmeone who seemed to understand her, what she'd been through AND could help her with her beast when no one else had. She smirked a little even as a tear trickled down her cheek. "You know my names Joss not Beck.. or becky or whatever it is your calling me right?" She teased. |

As soon as she turned around he wrapped her in his arms, squeezing her tight but not too tight. This was all so surreal. He had moved to this city less than a few days ago and already he had found a friend. Someone he could understand and share his secrets with, share his life with. He could understand her and she him. He hadn't even realised he had called her becc but she mentioned it he realised it was a word no longer used. Shame. His language had been so proud and beautiful. It was the language of poets and bards. A beautiful tongue. "Becc means 'little one'." he explained to her sofetly. His voice had its full Irish accent now, perhaps for the first time in centuries, though he did not notice it himself. He smiled at her and kissed her forehead softely, not even knowing what had made him do it but not caring either. |

She felt her chest gripped with a sob as arms wrapped around her in an embrace. Again Marcus flashed into her brain. But for the first time it wasn't a happy or pleasing thought. It was the knowledge that he would probably never do this for her. Ask about her past, hold her and console her when she cried. He wasn't her friend and she needed those in her life too. And now she had one. She smiled as he explained that Becc meant little one. She suddenly realized how true an ALpha Conall was. This is how things should be. Not cowtowing to your braggard son. She shook her head dismissing her thoughts. It was the past and it was best left there She laughed as he kissed her forehead as a father might do. She smiled up at him. Her tears finally ceasing. "What a motely pack we make." She jocked. A leopard and a wolf. |

A motely pack she had said and she was right. A cat and a wolf. A pack of two. Werewolves would not approve, he supposed. But they had banish him long ago. What did he care for their laws now? No matter what a certain inner voice said, he could not go back to them. It was time he made new friends, a new pack. "So how much is the pay at this place?" he asked jokingly, making sure his tone was such that she knew he wasnt really asking what his wages would be, only affirming that he would take the position. He smiled down at her, a true, warm smile, his eyes becoming green and his body shrinking as he slipped back into his naked human form. |

His sudden question through her off and she jerked back looking up at him and suddenly burst out laughing. She had completely forgotten that he had never responded to her question of employment. She watched him shrink even more to his normal size. His voice once again had that soothing accent. The guttural gruffness gone. His eyes a blaring green. She smiled. "13 bucks an hour plus free drinks after your shift is over." She said putting on her manager boss voice. This would certainly be a little difficult being his boss. When she was a sub no matter how much he helped her with her beast she knew she'd always be sub. It was just her nature and had nothing to do with the beast. "Can you start tomorrow?" She counter asked. |

He was amused with her managerial tone of voice. He was still dominant, he knew that. Chuckling, he slowly let go of her and began to dress himself again. "Sounds good to me." He said. "As you can see by the state of my apartment I could do with the money. And you have noticed am partial to a drink of whiskey here and there. Tomorrow sounds fine to me. Now I have a question for you. Will you let me train you?" He wanted to help her. She could be stronger, fiercer, a true lycan, a creature of the wild like him. She didnt have to live by the rules of another, if only she could see it. He did up his fly and cracked his neck by leaning his head from side to side as he did habitually, waiting forher answer. |
