Shayla took a look at the hotel and walked inside feeling very odd. Somehow it was as if she was visiting her old high school but in this case it was the finale closing of a chapter on her life. Shayla was still getting back to normal but small steps had to be taken there was no need to rush. Thorn’s sprit was talking to her again and the new power Shayla had come in to had stopped making her head hurt.

*I don’t know why you’re doing this let the owner send his stuff to Goodwill.* Thorn said in a disgusted tone while Shayla sighed.

*Because I said I would be back for the box and I keep my word. Besides vampire or not he may have family that will want his belonging.*

*Well, I would go through it and take what is valuable he owes you that Shay.*

Thorn had a point but she wasn’t going to have an argument in her head with her deceased boyfriend. The front desk person looked up and smiled when he saw her.

“Miss Morris. I was beginning to think that you had left town after...” His voice trailed off.

Shayla knew what he meant and wasn’t offended. “It’s alright, I’m doing better and I’m here to take that box I left here.”

He nodded and went to the back as Shayla looked around the lobby. There were many more people around so business must have picked up after she and Alex had left. She gave a slight smile and brushed back some of her hair behind an ear.

“Yes this is a closing of a door and a new start.” She quietly said and waited for the box.

Mordeth Van Alucard
Old Skool
Mordeth walked out of the coffee shop carrying a large steaming cup of black coffee. He sipped it and paused to glance at the newpaper that someone had left tossed carelessly on the counter. He smirked, more of the same, earthquakes, plagues, wars and rumours of wars. He glanced out the window, thinking, If that idiot Christ was really a god, he would have been back a long time ago. Mordeth laughed wickedly and turned to go back to his basement suite when he saw someone who stood out. She was at the counter and appeared to be waiting for something. His strange senses took her in, examining her and tasting her energies. He got a clear mental image of a wild pack of wolves, howling with the joy of the hunt, charging through snowpack and thrilling at dodging trees. He blinked. Could she be. . .but he hadn't seen a Vargamour for a hundred years, and certainly not in the Americas. He grinned, this city was truly turning out to be quite a trove for an old treasure hound such as himself.

He walked over to the counter, slouching easily next to her and said, "Hello there, forgive my abruptness, but. . .may I ask your name?"

Shayla turned her head at the voice and gave a polite nod and turned toward him. She didn’t have a chance to say a word when Thorn started to growl. Shayla didn’t let it show on her face but she was going to be cautious and friendly.

“You don’t have to ask for forgiveness your not being rude at all.” She replied keeping her voice friendly. “ I hope you’ll forgive me if I ask your name first a lady in this city has to be careful.” There she was still friendly and remembered her etiquette of waiting for the gentleman of giving his name first. She was almost sure that he was human but there was a power, like Hanna, that was tickling at her almost inviting her to brake her number one rule.

Mordeth smiled disconcertingly and said, "Well, well, living by your instincts. . .very good. My name is Mordeth Van Alucard, researcher and. . .psychologist." He giggled a little, as if at a private joke as he called himself a psychologist, and then extended his hand in a friendly gesture, saying, "And you, milady? What might your name be?" He smiled, but it did not touch his eyes. His eyes were like marbles, showing no more emotion than a piece of granite. As his hand extended, the sleeve pulled up, revealing a strange conglomeration of tattoos that extended from the backs of his hands beyond the cuffs of his shirtsleeves. Around his wrists hung hundreds of charms and amulets, and around his neck as well. His hands were covered in small, almost imperceptible scars, like razor cuts.

Shayla took his hand and shook it as the tickle feeling grew. “Shayla Morris, tea shop owner and ex college student.” She couldn’t shake his hand very hard as her shoulder was still healing from the gun shot but it was still friendly.

“As for living by my instincts I’ve only started to do that as of late. May I ask what brings you to our city?” Shayla asked while Thorn growled deep and threatening.

*You better keep yourself in check. Remember the last time you lose your temper Thorn? I won’t have it happen to me again!*

Shayla had made her thought more pointed than she wanted but she had saw what she thought was a protection tattoo on the person in front of her. It hadn’t frighten her she knew many people that had them. Some for the beauty in the art others for the actual protection and Shayla knew better than to ask about it.

As Mordeth shook Shayla's hand his eye twitched subtly, only someone extremely aware, or trained in psychology would have caught it. His strange perceptions had picked up a lupine figure standing to Shayla's side and a little behind, a spirit, wrapped in shadows. Fascinating, he thought. He quickly said, still looking over her shoulder warily, "I am here on a research expedition. I was in fabled New Orleans when I heard from a well-known Vampire, Lestatt. . .perhaps you've heard of him? Anyway, I heard that there was quite a powerful alpha-bitch Vamp who had taken over this city, shrouding it in eternal darkness with her powers. He told me that this Detroit, this Citta Della Morte, had become a haven for all manner of anomalies, Lycanthropes, otherkin, and the like. I came here to see if this old blood-sucker was telling lies or not. So far as I have been able to tell. . .he wasn't." He smiled, but the tattoos on his arms had begun to twist and bend, a morbid dance of ink and flesh. Strange shadowy figures had gathered around him, alien amorphous shapes visible only to those with the Second Sight, but there nonetheless. Mordeth didn't like that growling shadow behind Shayla, and it was obvious it didn't like him either.

Shayla had listen to Mordeth’s explanation when she heard Tempest mentioned not by name but she knew who he was talking about.

*Careful Shay this one feels like a hunter he might be baiting you* Thorn warned as Shayla felt a hand on her shoulder.

Shayla gave a small sad sigh ignoring Thorn. “I hope the person in question wasn’t put to death because he did tell the truth. I have to thank you for enlightening me as I didn’t know a vampire could referred to as an alpha. You should know that her name is Tempest Adora and I am not her favorite person nor she mine.”

Shayla could not stop the shiver that ran through her when she thought of Tempest. The pure hate that filled her thoughts almost had Shayla lose what shealds she had in place. “Please forgive me for being forward Doctor Van Alucard but you should know Tempest Adora is a dangerous person. I have no doubts that you have encountered dangerous vampires but I would describe her as a psychopath at best and a raving psychotic control freak at worst. She cares only for her pleasure and what can be had for herself.”

Shayla stopped for a moment to calm herself as she felt the electric prickle and the light breeze come up that warned her that her new power was about build up. “I won’t lie she is a beautiful woman but under that veneer is a cold blooded killer. Please be careful if you ever meet.”

*Why warn him Shayla?* Thorn asked. * Let him take his chances, no one warned you.*
Nothing was said as Shayla turned and glared at Thorn. Before either one knew it a thin yellow light shot from Shayla hitting Thorn in the hip. Shayla’s eyes widened as Thorn held his left hip.

Mordeth watched the spirit at Shayla's side. He knew they were conversing, but he couldn't make out the thoughts. It was obvious that Shayla had shields surrounding her. Fascinating. Mordeth smiled. He had been able to glean a thought from her, however, when her shields faltered for a split second. She thought he was a Hunter. Mordeth said, "No, the vampire who told me this was not slain. I am no Hunter. I usually disdain vampires, but it is a personal dislike. I feel no noble urge to hunt them down to 'save humanity from predation'. As it is, I am somewhat of a predator myself." He lit a cigarette and grinned wickedly around it. "So. . .wanna tell me about that big phantom following you around?"

For a moment Shayla frowned confused at the question she was asked but then Thorn spoke up.

“Why don’t you ask me yourself asshole?” He spat at Mordeth then turned his attention to Shayla. “Don’t tell him a thing he’s playing with you.”

Shayla rolled her eyes now she had to answer him. “That’s Thorn and we were acquainted before he died. He likes to play protector which sometimes doesn’t works out well.” She gave a small smile. “But he means well unlike others who like to play their cards close. If you can see him then there is more to you than you let on.”

Shayla took a step closer to him and gently spoke in to his ear. “If you want to carry on this talk may I suggest the sitting area to your left?”

“WHAT! Shayla have you lost your mind?” Thorn yelled.

Mordeth glanced at the spirit and then at Shayla, saying, "Of course, however my suite would be more comfortable, I have a large fireplace and a couple of luxuriously overstuffed chairs. The choice is yours of course." He smiled at Shayla and waited for her decision.

Shayla gave him a small laugh then a smile it seem he was playing a cat and mouse game.
“At another time perhaps,” Shayla said. “I am waiting for package and I have a small favor to do for a friend so if you wouldn’t mind this small favor?” Shayla asked in her politists voice. She had been truthful and was glad of it now Shayla had to hope that he would sit with her and talk.

“Ah she see through your trap asshole.” Thorn sneered. Shayla was about to admonish him when she heard another voice.

“Thorn we’re dead and you would best remember that.” A form of a man with blond and gray hair appeared next to Thorn.
