The clerk led him down a long series of labyrithine corridors that sloped gently downwards. "There is no elevator to this room, that was our usual tenant's only request, other than it be completely underground. Mordeth nodded vaguely, as if he were only paying half-a-mind, when in reality his brain was spinning. A vampire's lair perhaps, and he was going to be sleeping in it's room! Haha it was too delicious. The clerk seemed very nervous as they neared their destintion. Finally they reached the door, which was a huge iron-bound oak affair, but otherwise normal. Strange, Mordeth thought, if this was a Lair, there would be House Affiliation sigils and wards scrawled all over this door. . .unless. . . "Thank you master Davenport," Mordeth said after take a quick calculating glance at the deskclerk's name badge, "That will be all. I would appreciate it greatly if you could keep my presence here between you and I." He shook Davenport's hand, who gasped when he felt a very large diamond being pressed into his palm. Mordeth smiled knowingly, saying, "For your services, of course. Now. . .shoo." Davenport bowed quickly and prissily powerwalked up the corridor and out of sight, leaving Mordeth to examine the door. He rubbed his fingers on his chin and stared for a while, then, he extended his hand and said, "Nocturnis Amore." in a powerful, yet quiet voice. At these words strange symbols suddenly glowed to life, glittering with purple luminescence. "Interesting. . ." Mordeth muttered as he pored over the the Vampire Script. The House Sigil he recognized, a coven from his native Netherlands. The wards were all there as well, most set up to destroy hunters. . .but. . .there, on the lintel. A ward against mages. A small sweat pricked on Mordeth's brow and he quickly pulled a dull black stone from his pocket. Chanting a spell, he placed the rock on the one ward that would pose a threat. There was a small concussive shock, and a burst of light, followed by the smell of ozone and burning electrical components. The stone crumbled in Mordeth's hand, falling as a fine black sand to the floor. Mordeth breathed a sigh of relief as he wiped his hands on a handkerchief. If that ward had been any stronger he would have gotten blasted along with the anti-magic stone. A quick look at the rest of the doorway showed there were no other wards that could harm him. Mordeth placed the key into the door and opened it. He gasped at what he saw within. The room was a palace, all around luxury reigned supreme. Rare artwork hung on the walls, a fireplace, eight feet long and four feet high dominated one wall. The bed was enormous, clothed in satin and silk sheets of red and black. The bath was a suite unto itself, the tub the size of a small pool, and beside the tub was a steam-sauna. Mordeth smiled to himself. Yes, this place would be perfect. |
