Were-Leopard

Chante stepped into the streetlight. The moon was a mere eyelash and little light was falling from it. The stars winked at her, seeming to welcome her to this new place. She looked about with a smile, the leopardess's eyes glinted a dark green. Her hair brushed her leather clad shoulders, her black skin-tigh jeans and tight turtle neck complimented her slender hourglass figure. Pulling her trench coat around her, Chante moved farther along the path. Humming a gentle tune, no particular rythym was made. Endless notes and vowels fell from her smiling lips. She wondered if anyone was out this late, if they were friendly she would be too. If they were foes they would taste the cold metal of her scimitars. |

Will stood at the tree where he had been forced to see the world beneath the careful facade of day. He looked up the broad trunk, up at the leaves that declared the tree to be an oak. It hadn't been so long since he had seen the girl drained of her life's blood by a gang of vampires. He had barely escaped with his life. Seeing that had changed something in him. Something broken, something lost. Will had seen death before, in hospitals, but he had never seen someone's life end in a kiss. The poor girl had seemed to be enjoying it, but it had killed her. Death without rhyme or reason, without cause, even now made Will burn. He hadn't been able to do anything, and that was what bothered him the most. He hated feeling powerless, helpless, wondering if he was going to be killed when he rounded a corner. Will knew in the core of his being that this wasn't the way it was supposed to be. People weren't supposed to be hunted in the streets to feed the monsters that stalked the night. Will was no stranger to the hunt. He had seen people that he counted as friends taken, he had seen children ripped apart by fanged jaws, devoured like so much raw meat. "I'm sorry." Will whispered as he dropped a bouquet of flowers at the foot of the tree. |

Chante watched the man drop the flowers. He seemed oblivious to her and something was troubling him. Her green eyes observed him with a silent curiousity. Her head cocked to the side. The assasin slipped up behind him. She placed her clawed hand on the man's shoulder. He was obviously mourning something and Chante felt his sadness and shared it with him. "Are you alright?" her voice was soft and sympathetic. |

Will stiffened as he felt a clawed hand grab his shoulder. "If you're going to kill me, make it quick." His voice was hard, rigid. Fear mingled with rage as he felt powerless once again. "If you're not going to kill me, remove your hand. I don't like to be touched." |

Chante snatched back her hand and stepped away from the human slightly. She bowed her head slightly in a show of uncertainty, the tension coming off of the man made her uncomfortable. She grit her sharp teeth. "I am sorry," Chante nodded apologetically, "I have no wish to hurt you." |

Anger roiled in Will's stomach. "No wish to hurt me? Isn't that what your kind does? Kill people?" He pointed at the tree. "She was just a kid! She didn't have to die, but she did! She was just food to the...things that did it to her!" Will didn't realize that he was shouting, but he was. Memories he had covered up began to float into his mind. Jason, his head hanging from a bloody thread to the rest of his body. "Do you have any idea what it's like to wonder if you're going to wake up the next morning?" Tabitha, screaming as her arm was bit off by some kind of were-beast. Will fought to push the memories away, but they kept on coming. Andrew, weeping without eyes, groping at the air in front of him as a grinning vampire dangled them inches away. Joseph trying to beg for his life, hands groping for a tongue that lay close by, watching as something's boots stomp it over and over again. "We're not animals, we're not food. We live! We just want to live!" Will hadn't turned around, and he sank to his knees at the foot of the tree. |

"You must think of us terribly. I am sorry for what ever has made you think we are all sush horrorific beasts. But I am not like that, human. I do not hurt your kind if I can help it," though he had told her not to touch him Chante couldn't help but press her fingertips to the back of his neck. The man had been hurt, but why did he tell a complete stranger? No matter, Chante thought to herself, I will let him tell me his troubles. Perhaps it will let him accept me. |

"Do. Not. Touch me." Will's voice was low and dangerous, and under his overcoat, his hands balled into fists. It was all he could do not to fling himself at the woman, but for all he knew, she was telling the truth. Maybe she really was a "good" monster. Unlikely. He had seen enough killings to know that such a being was rare, to say the least. He tried to stand, but found that he couldn't. His knees had fallen asleep, which meant walking was not an option. If God existed, was he taunting him? Will grimaced. At the moment, that seemed entirely possible. Only some sadistic superbeing would cause him to be unable to stand when he was in the presence of one of these...things. Will blinked. His vision was blurry, was he going blind? No. He rubbed his eyes to get the tears out of them, but he was sure they were red-rimmed. He always cried when he got angry enough, and right now, he was on fire. |

Chante retracted her hand as if she had been stung. She whriled away fromthe human. The stench of his anger clouded her senses and she mewled in protest. She looked away from him, her gaze down and she let out a dejected sigh. "I do not understand why you hate me. I have yet to proven myself ruled by bloodlust or anger. Please, will you look at me?" Chante whispered these words, desperation coloring her voice. The she-leopard wanted to prove that she wasn't evil. That this human could trust her. |

Will gritted his teeth and turned. He didn't want to be unfair, whatever the creature's construction. So he twisted his hips, then turning his head so he could look at her. "I see you, and you look human, as do most of your kind. There is more to you than a human face, of that I'm sure. Your hands are proof enough of that." |

Chante winced as the man looked at her. His eyes were cold and he was forcing himslef to look at her. His words were painful too and she sighed. She thought her second form to be beautiful, but maybe not all though the same. "My other form isn't terrifying. It is sleek and powerful and beautiful. It gives me power in freedom, and intelligence. It is an amazing feeling to go from this wretched, limited bag of flesh, to a muscled hunter, free to run as long as I want," Chante's voice had taken on a longing tone. She sighed and looked at the human, her eyes shining with earnestly. She wanted this man to believe her, she was not bad. |

"A form that is fast can only kill more quickly. That's what it's made for, isn't it? From what you've said, I assume you're a great cat of some kind. Which means you're a carnivore. Killing may not be what you do, but killing is what you are." Will said, standing. He bent down and rearranged the flowers before turning back to the woman behind him. "Well, this has been an enlightening chat, but I really need to get to work." He immediately began to put deeds to words, walking off towards the exit. |

Chante cringed at his words. She was not a killer if she could help it, she did not do it if she could help it. But still this human could not accept her. Rubbing her arms over her skin, the leopardess sighed and looked down. She wouldn't follow the man, no, he wanted her away from him. He probably wanted her dead. Moving to a bench, Chante stood upon it and looked at the sky. Anger and resentment, even a little desperation, shone through her green eyes. Slowly the irises changed to a gold and she dropped to all fours. Her joints and bones popped and moved, her muscles stretched and grew. Her spine pushed it's way from beneath her skin, her clothes melted away and her head flattened into a muzzle. In place of the young woman, stood a large, beautiful leopard. It's tail lashed back and forth, she lifted her jaws and yowled her frustration towards the sky. Soon after the last of the echo disappeared she slunk off quickly, soon running full speed through the park. Nothing but a mottled gold streak. |

Drakes head snapped from his quiet relaxation, as a smooth form neared in the distance growing quikly. The wind had carryed many words to his keen ears, but this new shape caught his attention, his contemplation of of this new home by the view of someone he couldn't see troubleing him. The slender flash moved around bushes as if displaced by thier minute turbulance. He watched as intently as the figure neared hopeing to tell what, who, how possibly this was. He zoomed his tellescopic pupils attempted to concentrate on the shape and form that seemed to natural to the scenery to see. |
