As a distributor of Black Hawk Model kits we would like to respond to Sotongs statements. It is correct that the kit was mistakenly advertised as for a “Surestart” engine. Black Hawk Models had developed some kits around this engine for us. We later added to our kit listings, using an old template, for which we apologize and take full responsibility. In the meantime we have corrected the listing details. Incorrect, however, is that we have stated that we still felt that this is a top-quality kit and that there was no need for full-size plans. We pride ourselves in a commitment to 100% customer satisfaction and even offered a full refund of monies paid. We have sold 100’s of BHM kits and have dealt with them for quite some time. Same as us, they are committed to 100% customer satisfaction and offer refunds when customer satisfaction is not met. We are fully in favour of free speech, encourage dialogue and dissent and are in no way implying that the quirks the buyer experienced whilst building the kit were not real. We think they are and have offered to make good. However, we just wanted to set the record straight as to who said what. Below we will copy and paste our reply to the buyer as well as BHM’s reply. Cheers Bernie www.coxinternational.ca From Cox International Dear (deleted for privacy reasons), We are genuinely sorry to hear that a product you purchased from us did not meet or exceed your expectations. The Black Hawk kits are manufactured and distributed by Black Hawk Models in the United States. The kit you purchased is a new product for us and, although a sample kit is on the way to us, we have not yet seen the actual kit. However, we have sold many BHM kits and this is the first substantially bad feedback we have received. We will cc Larry from BHM on this and let him address your concerns. The part with the engine is likely our fault as we have been selling BHM kits that were specifically designed for the Surestart engines. We neglected to change our listing for the new kits to reflect engine requirements. We will now do this. In regards to the glow plug clip we have literally sold well over 1,000 of them and 100% will they fit any Cox glow head from the 1950 to date. We suspect that you are trying to push the lower prong under a fin as opposed to (correctly) laying it on top of the fin. Here is a link to the listing, which shows the correct installation: http://coxengines.ca/product.php?productid=320&cat=10&page=1 Also, for your convenience, we have attached the "how to use" picture. Which C/L forum are you referring to? Could you please provide a link? Thanks in advance and we shall await the response of BHM. Regards Bernie From Black Hawk Models Dear (deleted for privacy reasons), I am very sorry that you are dissatisfied with our kit. As to the items that you have brought to our attention, we will look into them and make any changes that are necessary. We do feel that the 4 page instruction manual with step by step pictures and a detailed side view is sufficient to assemble the model. I will look into the sheeting, wing weight placement and tank placement. Black Hawk Models and Cox International are proud of the products that we sell and we have a money back guarantee on all of our product and are prepared to offer you a full refund on the price of the kit. Thank you for bringing this to our attention. Respectively Yours, Larry Rice President Black Hawk Models 300 East Arbor Street #42 Long Beach, Ca. 90805 |

Hi Bernie, Thanks for taking the time to address the problems with Black Hawk and clarifying the situation with us. Plane is still awesome, thats why i bought it in the first place to try building it, though more dimensions included would provide more assistance for beginners on the built. (I am a beginner too, so wriggled my way through guess work, hope my plane still flies ) Look forward to more improvements coming from Black hawk on this model because my original intention was to introduce stunt to beginners in JFI using this model... after testing the one i bought. And to all, No doubt about Cox's service at all. I have been working with Cox for 1 and a half years and can vouch for its commitment and dedication in serving their customers. They have always been very efficient in their orders and quality assured. And i must say that they are very quick in responding to the problems i faced previously. Joyce |

hehe.. thanks Pat...just saw this post. You might want to read the rest of it where it concerns the B/Hawk stunt trainer which Joyce n I were building and the comments which I posted which I believe were fair and just. Mine is complete and ready to fly, just waiting for good weather as it's winter here now- cold, rainy n windy. Not the kind of conditions for test flying a model that size ! Just trying to start this "Surestart" Cox engine but it would not go but I'm sure I can get it going soon cos it's new and not run-in n the weather is cold and could be other factors too. BTW I'm using 25% nitro with 8% synthetic n 4% castor which is fuel off-the-shelf. I wish I could get some original Cox fuel in those little rectangular tins !! Will keep posting as I progress !! Thanks for reading |

Yes Pat, it is a 'g' rams...but I have not weighed it after mounting the engine and adding the pilot and finishing coat. Probably looking at 100 plus grams. That lawn is Aussie mate !! You have to keep pissin on it to keep it green !!! Rgds Sotong |

Sotong, 4% castor oil is on the light side and you risk seizing up your engine. Here is a link to our fuel guide which also contains a link to a fuel calculator that you can use to calculate additional castor oil to add to car racing fuel. http://coxengines.ca/pages.php?pageid=5 Personally, I recommend a starter spring for ease of starting. Here is a link to a basic engine operating guide: http://coxengines.ca/pages.php?pageid=6 Cheers Bernie www.coxinternational.ca |

Thank you Mr. Ang, I have not flown it yet, just trying to get the new engine going and in this cold weather it is proving to be a lot more difficult. Did you mention that 4% castor was not enough ? Cos I just got an email from Cox recommending about 50/50 mix of castor n synthetic; Klotz was the preferred synthetic and I fully agree. This fuel I bought was only 12% oil and 25 nitro ! I hope I don't cook it !! |

Hi Sotong, It is Cox who mentioned not to use 4%oil. You can top up the oil content by adding Klotz Benol or Maxima 927. 1% oil increase is approximately 36.5ml. I round it off to 37ml. For my fuel, I usually use 22% oil, which means, I need to add another 10% of oil if my fuel has 12% oil. It seems that yours is heli fuel. The measurement is for 1 US Gallon. Better to have an oily model than a worn out engine. H B Ang. |

Finally finish painting and touching up.. ![]() Now just awaiting the pilot to dry itself after a black shower and then to fuel proof everything... ![]() Hopefully this sunday can test flight it. Oh i find my yellow prop super bright and doesnt match my model at all... is there anyway i can paint over the prop without going out of balance???

Lightly roughen the surfaces of the prop, clean with alcohol to ensure no oil and dust. Spray a mist coat coat, when dried, one light coat. Let dry again and one wet coat. leave to dry at least 24hrs. Out of balance? Spray a coat on the lighter blade. I wouldn't bother the paint prop for this type of model as after a few bad landing the paint would peel off. H B Ang |
