After I've sold my car, I have come to realise that there is a law against carrying bulky items in public transport. This pose a challenge to aeromodellers who do not own cars carrying their planes and flight equipment to the flying field. To reduce excessive baggage, I have since decided to miniaturize my models and flight box. In this project, the flight box I've designed carries sufficient equipment needed in the flying field. Tools like screw drivers, control handle, spare plugs, screws etc can go in your hand luggage. This flight box is designed for 1/2A class models, as such, only sufficient fuel is carried in a 12 oz Sullivan tank. For 049 class engines, I find it excessive and can be further reduced to an 8 oz RC tank. The fuel pump is a 150cc syringe (I'm now looking for a smaller one). For glow driver, I've chosen a little 12V powered "a-word" brand (smallest I can find). A little 12V 1.2 ampere-hour battery sufficient for my use. I find the usual 12V 7 ampere hour battery too excessive. I use a Norvel electric starter and is wired to the same battery. Alternatively, you may choose to hand start, this will save you more baggage. The flight box also carries my cable reel made from plywood so my lines can can roll and unroll easily from the flight box. The photos attached shows the layout for my equipment. You may design your own based on your equipment, but the size differs. Wishing you all the best... ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

You have a flair for miniaturisation! When l can't hold on to my car any longer, l'll take the same path. |

How did Iskandar bring his flight box into Singapore? Iskandar brought his little creation. A flight box that can be easily assembled and taken apart for overseas travel and reassembled in the hotel room. The price? About the cost of a piece of corrugated plastic. It is held by rubber bands so it can be disassembled again for the return trip. ![]() ![]() Thanks, Iskandar, for the wonderful idea. Edited by Simon53, Sunday Jan 1 2012, 11:39 PM.
