A long time ago, I learnt to drive. When I passed my test (first time I might add, with only one minor - doing 30 in a 40, how ironic), I knew absolutely nothing about cars. Literally nothing. As I returned from Belfast and made new friends who were into cars, it got me into them, I learned things off my own back, I started to understand them As the years passed and I got more experience thanks to my trusty little Fiesta Si. I was going to car shows, car meets, on forums and made a lot of good friends over the years. But it was time to find something special, something with a bit of road prescence that had the power to back it all up. I earned my no claims, I was getting older, and could afford insurance on the breed of JDM cars that was flooding the country. After much deliberation, the Pulsar was the choice. And how I loved it. It could show up anything I raced. It looked mental. It put a smile on my face everytime I drove it. And once again, I met some great people thanks to it. Luckily, Shaun was only up the road so anything that went wrong was cheap and easy(ish) to get fixed. Then came a time when I started doing bits and bobs to it myself. If there's one thing this car has taught me, it's how to work on a car. I'd never done a clutch job before doing the Pulsars, and what a way to start - get thrown in at the deep end with a bitch of a job. And of course the engine rebuild. And every other little fucking thing that has gone wrong inbetween. There's not many jobs on these cars I can't or won't do now. But let me tell you something - all of this has absolutely killed my love for cars. I really don't care for them anymore. I'm sick to death of driving a car that draws attention everywhere. A car that every little slight noise you hear you're running through everything in your head as you drive as to what it could be. A car that forces you to keep your eye on the guages and question why that one's slightly lower than normal, why this one's slightly higher than normal. A car that quite literally has been a major factor in my relationship breakdown. And so, I hope you all understand my reasons for getting rid of the thing. Why I'm going for something like a BMW. I just want a CAR. Something I can get in and really not worry about, where I can go for a long drive without fear of being stranded waiting for the RAC to come out. The Pulsar has literally been the most fun car I've ever had, but also it's been the bane of my life for the past 6 years, and it has killed all my enthusiasm for cars. And typically, before I sell it, it still needs a couple of things doing to it... Dear little Pulsar - I will miss you, but my god I'll be glad when you're gone... |

The joys of owning a pulsar eh mate. You've cetanly had your share of hard luck with yours. Enough to test the patience of a saint! I totaly understand how soul destroying these cars can be, especialy when they are your daily drive. They're demanding to say the least. A clutch change is bad enough, but to have to do an engine rebuild is heart breaking! I've been all over these cars now. And those 2 jobs are the most sould destroying jobs! I'm working on sona's casr atm, doing an engine swap and its knackerd me, I'm fedup of it now. I've had to force myself to work on it. Its the first and last time I will be doing someone elses car working on my back! Its taken 2 of my weekends up, no lie ins for 2 weeks has made me tired as hell lol For a pulsar to be worth the hassle it neads to be a second car in my opinion. This way it dosnt matter if it neads attension, you can do it in your spare time. Unless you are loaded. Then someone else does it for you lol My passion for the car will always be, but it will always be just a hobie! Good luck with the bmw Des

That's exactly it mate, it's been sould destroying. All the jobs I've actually enjoyed doing, the gearbox/clutch job gave me such a massive sense of satisfaction it was worth it in the end, and not really a hard job. The engine building I thoroughly enjoyed doing too, and a massive thanks goes out to Shaun for his guidance. What's really killed it for me is all the little things that keep cropping up. Like that fekkin nut I had to come and get off you one of the nights. But fingers crossed, she's been ok lately. But it's just not something I need in a car at this point in my life. I have to say, I have and always will love cars, but as you say, as a daily driver it's just got too much for me now. I have no doubt in my mind that I will want to come back to one in the future, as long as it's a hobby car. |
