Taking advantage of seasonal Steam sales, I picked up Shadowrun Returns. With some nostalgia towards the old SNES Shadowrun title, and enjoying the whole cyberpunk dystopian thing, it seemed like it would be a good purchase... especially at only about $2.![]() I've put about 7-8 hours into the game so far and I am loving it. It's got an orthographic view, an invisible movement grid, turn-based combat, skill trees, multiple classes and races, and some puzzles... and it's gritty and dark, while somehow also being pretty vibrant. There's a lot of oldschool gaming feel happing here while also feeling fresh. I'm still concluding the first mission, but there is a tonne of DLC available, and a level editor to create your own stories. With the main game I've found the story compelling; I'm actually reading all the dialogue and setting descriptions with interest, rather than glancing by them. Unless there's a really big twist coming up, the story's not too complex, but it is good. The different methods of game play for the different classes makes things interesting, especially since you work with hired mercs as well, allowing you to experience multiple classes at once. I'm obviously playing the PC and Linux versions, but it's also available for mobile OSes. I think if I'd realized that before hand I may have gotten the title for iPad rather than computer, but, it's all good. Obviously, I suggest this one. |

In Real Life ™, people who aim to maximize their potential for lethality are called "dangerous psychotics" and are typically avoided by everyone who isn't forced to endure their company until someone has the opportunity to put them away or else put them down. No one likes that guy. Don't play that guy. Donate to Ankhanu Press | |
