It's about freakin' time.
Two of the best flight combat sim games ever made are finally available through GoG for modern computers/OSes; X-WIng andTIE FIghter! X-Wing vs TIE Fighter isn't available yet, but hopefully it will be eventually.
The games were released this week along with a few other classic Lucas Arts games. Both are Special Edition versions, including early and late release versions, as well as add-on content; the full games, if you will. Both are also only $10.

These games were pretty much anything the Star Wars space combat sim enthusiast could want; an array of available ships, wide open combat arenas, good missions, and ship systems controls, allowing you to dial up/down power to different systems, and alter your blast patterns to match your combat style and game situations. Need more rear shields, but none in the front? Dial it in! Need more power to your blasters and not quite so much speed? Reroute power from the engines to the blasters! You could get as in depth or simple as you wanted to play.

In Real Life ™, people who aim to maximize their potential for lethality are called "dangerous psychotics" and are typically avoided by everyone who isn't forced to endure their company until someone has the opportunity to put them away or else put them down. No one likes that guy. Don't play that guy.

I still own the original disks... I loved these. But I am purchasing a flight stick before play them again... you just NEED one to really enjoy switching shields with a thumb flick.
