About a year ago the folks at Bethesda let us know that they were working on building the next Fallout game, Fallout New Vegas, with a release date is slated for this fall!

Largely, the game is looking to be fairly similar to Fallout 3, using the same game engine, with some changes from the classic Fallout theme. New Vegas is set in the wastes of Las Vegas after the end of the world; unlike the prior fallout games, your character is not a Vault Dweller (or Vault Dweller descendant), rather you're a wasteland trader. Some of the released info is below:
Quote:

    * It's a first-person view game, using the same engine as Fallout 3
    * A new "Hardcore mode" will be available, in which (among other things) stimpacks heal over time, ammo has weight, and players can suffer from dehydration.
    * The story focuses on a conflict between three factions: the New California Republic (a nation from Fallout 2), "Caesar's Legions," based on the Vegas strip, and the residents of New Vegas.
    * The player is not a Vault Dweller but a courier who is rescued by a friendly robot.
    * Super Mutants resembling those from Fallout 2 make an appearance, including the unique (and stealthy) Nightkin.
    * A "reputation system" measuring faction friendliness operates beside the karma system.
    * Some story points and locations seem to have been lifted from the old "Van Buren" demo, including the Hoover Dam.
    * Followers can be managed via a context-sensitive menu containing commands such as "follow," "stay" and "attack."

Earlier in the month, Bethesda released the Fallout New Vegas Teaser Trailer.

Gotta say I'm looking forward to this... and should get a new PC to run it before it's released :P

And just because Lego is awesome...

In Real Life ™, people who aim to maximize their potential for lethality are called "dangerous psychotics" and are typically avoided by everyone who isn't forced to endure their company until someone has the opportunity to put them away or else put them down. No one likes that guy. Don't play that guy.

IGN gives a first look at Fallout: New Vegas.
The article confirms a lot of speculation; the core of the game is Fallout 3, with some new adds. New weapons, improved control over conversation, improved companion control, streamlined combat; little change on the graphics side of things... The intro to the game has apparently been streamlined compared to 3. While you still have the same basic character creation options, the rather long intro to Fallout 3, going through a shortened clip version of your childhood, has been greatly shortened, and those accustomed to the gameplay can more rapidly build their character and get into the game. I welcome this, as I recently started another character in Fallout 3, and redoing the intro was annoying :P

So, yeah, New Vegas... looking like a winner so far.
