Starting a Changeling game

I'm planning to start a Changeling the Dreaming (Second Edition) game once I'm done writing my thesis (Probably about a month).

The game will take place in modern Vancouver... with a World of Darkness twist, of course :) I expect that most players are going to be completely new, or nearly so, to Changeling, so don't worry too much about that. I'm pretty open to character concepts, and the game will be somewhat character, more than event, driven. I don't plan to limit your choices of Kith, Seeming and the like, but a good background is going to be a must. I also encourage you to talk together and figure out why you might know one another.

I'll supply information on the game as needed, and can supply a pdf of the rule book if you can't get a hold of it.

Some basic info on the setting and game can be found in links I posted in other sections of the board:

In Real Life ™, people who aim to maximize their potential for lethality are called "dangerous psychotics" and are typically avoided by everyone who isn't forced to endure their company until someone has the opportunity to put them away or else put them down. No one likes that guy. Don't play that guy.

Will entirely chimerical characters such as golems be viable or do you want the players to be all changelings?

Changelings preferred (Kithain) or Kinain (mortals with fae blood). Nunnehi could be possible and I might allow Thallain if I can be suitably convinced that it can work. Clurichaun and Menehune would be quite difficult to justify, and Inanimae/Ghile Dhu are also undesirable. Chimera are undesirable, simply due to their lacking Wyrd natures. I want you to be able to interact with the real world.

While I will allow Unseelie, Shadow Court is off bounds; they're just stories. I haven't actually read through the Land of Eight Million Dreams, so Hsien are also out.

Essentially, I'm giving plenty of latitude, but more or less limiting to the Core stuff. Since I know most players will be newbies, expanded material is largely out, though if appropriate can be worked in. Of the expanded material probably the easiest stuff to work in would be the non-Shadow Court noble houses, such as Scathach and the like.

Sound interesting.

I haven't done much more than dabble with Changeling games but I do have a fondness for nocker characters.

I'm way out of touch with the jargan however so I'll need to do some study to get in the character creation mindset.

Neraeos pointed me in the direction of this game, and I'd like to join in when it starts, if no-one minds. :)

Absolutely fantastic :)

Do you have experience with CtD, or are you another newcomer? Also, welcome to the forum, feel free (and encouraged) to look through and post on anything that catches your fancy.

Thank you for the welcome!

I do have some experience with Dreaming (played in a couple of games, and briefly ran one for my fiance' before real-life intruded), and I've always loved the concepts and themes involved in the game. The NWoD version hasn't caught my interest, so needless to say, I was thrilled when I heard about a PBP Dreaming game.

Ok, sounds like your history with the game is similar to my own. I've played a couple times table top, and used a Changeling in larger WoD games where others were Mages or Vampires... but I haven't had much experience. The concepts always grabbed my imagination, but also made me feel inept to Storytell and convey them properly... but I'm giving it a go anyway. I've spent a couple hundred dollars on the books over the past decade, so I want to put them to use ;)

Likewise, the Changeling the Lost stuff doesn't have the same sort of appeal for me either.
