I found this through a link on the Ctrl+Alt+Del site and so far it seems pretty awesome. It's an incredibly in-depth text-based MMRPG that uses a base very similar to IRC. There are also other worlds to play in as well if you check out the Iron Realms main website (http://www.ironrealms.com/).

I play in Achaea as a Siren Magi (character name Kelyndra), residing in the town of Shallam and in the House Shaantir. This could be really fun, I think, if other people got involved. You can have more than one character, and it's 100% free, with no restrictions to play with a free account.

Peace is a lie, there is only passion. Through passion I gain strength, through strength I gain power, through power I gain victory, through victory my chains are broken. The Force shall set me free.

Oi.. one bad thing I'm noticing about this game is that I stay hopelessly lost. The maps they provide don't really help me out, and the world is pretty extensive.

I played in (here's the reference) Lusternia for a few days but found the same problems to overwhelm my fun.

I recently signed up again on this; I previously only did the intro and forgot about it, but Neraeos has been playing for a while and suggested it to me. I didn't realize it was the same thing. I haven't done much more in it as yet, but I think I could get into it.

Neraeos, tell us a little bit about the game and your damn godhood :P
In Real Life ™, people who aim to maximize their potential for lethality are called "dangerous psychotics" and are typically avoided by everyone who isn't forced to endure their company until someone has the opportunity to put them away or else put them down. No one likes that guy. Don't play that guy.

Hey guys,

I'm one of the admin at www.achaea.com, which is one of the four games at Iron Realms Entertainment. Achaea is the largest and oldest of the four games, and is very active and dynamic.

There are six cities which represent different ideologies. They are all player-run, so for instance Shallam has a Sultan and a seven-member Council of Viziers, as well as ministers that have responsibility for various aspects of the city, like player housing, shops, security and war. These cities can go to war with one another, or may be pacifistic and so on. In each of the cities are several houses, such as the Druids, the Wardens of the Spire, or the Serpentlords, all of which have their own culture and set of classes allowed. The player-run aspects are what initially drew me to the game.

The classes, skills and combat systems are very complex, and lead to an exceedingly large number of options for both combat and roleplaying.

The areas in the MUD undergo much more quality control than is found in most other MUDs, due to the fact that some of the staff are hired on a permanent basis, and are specialized in working on such things. This leads to very interesting places to explore, with fun quests to try out.

And also note that it is free! You use credits to advance your skills, which you can purchase either OOCly (which is how the game can run), or on a credit market using gold. The character I had on Achaea when I was a mortal a few years ago never had to buy a credit, and he became quite powerful; at the height of his career he was the general of the armies of nature, as well as a hierophant of the council of oakstone. The possibilities are endless!

Currently I play Neraeos, the God of the Sea. About 70 player-characters are sworn to Neraeos' banner, and his current goals are to control the entire world both indirectly and through alliances, and to try to fulfill prophecies that will lead to the eventual sinking of the continents and the ascension of Neraeos as the God-King over the other gods.

I think you guys should try the game, if you can. There's something of a steep learning curve, but it should be much easier than it was two years ago when Kelyndra tried. There is much more available in the way of maps, and I would suggest that you join a city and a house early-on. People are very newbie-friendly in Achaea!

Anyway, go ahead and try it out, and let me know how you did!

As a followup to my above write-up, has anyone from this board since tried Achaea?
