Equipment: Blaster Pistol, Lightsaber, Datapad, Comlink Physical Description: Petite with an olive complexion, brown eyes with a hint of amber in their depths, medium-length muddy brown hair worn in a conservative french braid. Her uniform and general appearance are kept in immaculate condition. Personality: For all intents and purposes, Mindra is the model Imperial officer, intent on following her duties. Those who spend time with her, however, are beginning to see that her cold demeanor hides her inner turmoil and rage under a very thin layer. She has little patience for dealing with those she considers inferiors, and her respect is something very few people manage to obtain. Her loyalty to the Emperor and his cause is undying. Background: Mindra Fitch is actually the daughter of Jedi Knight Randyn Felscape. Her mother died in childbirth, leaving her under the care of her father, who was generally too busy to spend much time with her. Thus, she grew up under the care of a nanny, and only saw her father on rare occasions. She cherished those occasions with her father, and he felt badly that he wasn't there for her as much as he should've been. On her 5th birthday, he planned a surprise for her. He took her to the Jedi temple, and there she was allowed to witness her father and another Jedi sparring with lightsabers. The weapons fascinated and intrigued her, stamping their image into her mind and heart. Some time after this eventful day, her father was killed in battle. She was later adopted by an Imperial officer by the name of Taagen Fitch and his wife Marienne. The memory of her father soon slipped from her mind, but dreams of the sparring Jedi and their magnificent weapons still haunt her to this day. It was not long after being adopted by Taagen Fitch that the Emperor took notice of her, and found out who she really was. Though she showed no signs of being sensitive to the ways of the Force, it was decided that she should be watched anyway. She was given a lowly posistion with the Empire upon coming of age, and then, uncharacteristically, was allowed to ascend in rank as if she were male. It was not long before she had managed a steady posistion as astrogator aboard the Dissonance , under the command of Kren Tagge. The Emperor, impressed that she manged to climb in rank so far and so fast, has heightened his watch over her. Though she has yet to show any potential as a Force user, it is quite evident (to those who are looking for such things) that she has a great interest in all things Force-related. If that interest becomes more, the Emperor is prepared to use that fully to his advantage. |

------Mindra's Test------ The forest floor was thick with moss as Mindra made her way down into the valley. The raucous calls of large leather-winged beasts could be heard overhead, their squawking threatening to overcome Mindra's inner thoughts. The trees in this region were twisted, black things; putrid yellowish sap oozed from their trunks. Even the moss underfoot was brown and squalid, with every step bringing about a shallow sucking sound. The slope of the ground was becoming more vertical. Mindra's feet were now sliding several inches with every step. What an awful place this is, she thought. Suprisingly, Mindra heard her thoughts being echoed back to her through the trees, “What an awful place this is.” The voice was not hers, merely a whisper, but she knew that she had not spoken them aloud. Mindra was used to hearing voices in her head... but they were always the same two. This one was different. Something was here. And that something could read her thoughts. ------ With caution foremost on her mind, Mindra continued her journey down the slope. The terrain was so steep now that she had to grab on to the trees to steady her way down. The slimy sap stuck to her fingers. Finally, the bottom of the valley came into view, and the sound of a slow-running stream made its way to Mindra's ears. The stream was no more than twelve feet across, and shallow enough to ford without wetting more than the ankles. She paused at the edge and knelt to wash the refuse from her hands. Peering into the flowing water, she was intrigued to notice that the water was actually slowing in it's normally ceaseless march. Mesmerized, she watched intently as the stream eventually stopped it's flow altogether, and became as still as glass. Her reflection looked back at her with the same intense gaze, and then slowly began to change. She watched as her shoulder-length hair grew longer, making its way to her lower back in waves. Her face was changing too; becoming more angular and her olive complexion turning to a chalky pale. Her deep brown eyes suddenly seemed to be lit from within with an amber glow. Whispered in the air was the same voice she had heard before, “You have much potential. Reach out and take it, and the world will be yours.” Startled by this odd phenomenon, Mindra quickly dashed her hand over the water, spoiling the image. The stream began to flow again once more. as if the incident had never occured. ------ Getting to her feet, Mindra was thoughtful as she made her way upstream. She was sent here on a quest by Master Malice... to retrieve a certain type of crystal that only grew in particular caverns where the Force was strong. The crystal she hoped to find would be used to create her first lightsaber. Mindra's heart surged with utter joy just thinking about it. Ever since she was a small child, lightsabers had fascinated her and haunted her dreams. Little had she known that one day, she would have one of her own. She could not fail in this task... Master Malice did not accept failure. Neither did Mindra. So far though, this was all suspicously easy. She doubled her stride, keeping ever alert. ------ Finally, she found what she was looking for. At the mouth of the stream was the small opening to a cave. She would have to crouch low to enter it, and hoped that it opened up a bit soon afterwards. With the lessened manoueverability, Mindra knew that getting out quickly, should the need arise, might be a bit tricky. Making her way over to the entrance, she peered into the darkness, letting her eyes adjust as well as she could. She could just make out what seemed to be a far wall, and the ceiling did seem to bit higher on further in. Darker hollows along the far wall marked out what was likely to be other corridors. Briefly, she thought of preparing a torch to take with her, but quickly dismissed the idea. She would be hard pressed to find suitable wood in this dank forest, and once inside the cave, the light would probably do her more harm than good. Swallowing a lump in her throat, Mindra crouched down almost to her knees, and crept into the cave entrance. ------ The interior of the cave was, for the most part, featureless. Two tunnels branched off of this space, one veering slightly to the West, the other seemingly straight ahead. Which way... The voices in her head had been oddly silent since landing on this planet. They had been coming more frequently now, and she found that, in a way, she missed them now that they were not present. Dropping to her knees in the center of the small cavern, she closed her eyes and muted her thoughts. Her meditation seemed to be a major key to her newfound powers. Master Malice had taught her much about using it to focus her energies and emotions into something much more efficient. As she entered a meditative state, new things about her surroundings brought themselves into focus. For the first time since entering the cave, Mindra noticed the silence. Though the stream still ran further into the distance, she could not hear the water moving over the rocks. The sounds of wildlife in the forest should still be in range, right here at the cave entrance. She did not hear them. There was nothing. The wind, though she could feel it blowing into the cavern and flowing down the central corridor, made no sound. She could not even hear her own breathing. Opening her eyes first, she slowly let herself come out of the trance. Her vision focused at an equal rate, and for a split second, she thought she noticed a faint glow coming from the West corridor. Assured that this was the answer to her question, she rose to her feet, and headed down the path. ------ Once around the first bend in the tunnel, the light from the main entrance ceased, and Mindra found herself in utter darkness. Now, not only could she not hear anything, she was without her sight as well. A feeling of dread swept over her as she realized that her death could be right up on her, and she would never know until after the fact. Determined, she pressed her back to the cave wall and slid along it, hands out to either side, feeling her way. She moved as if not to make a sound, though she could not hear whether or not she was succeeding. Plunging in to herself, she now was a creature of pure instinct, relying only on her feelings. She came to a junction in the passage, but did not even pause to consider her way. She simply moved on, knowing that she would find what she needed. She was no longer certain how long she had been in the caves. It could be hours... or it could be days. Still, onward she moved. ------ And suddenly.. there was a light! The same soft glow she had glimpsed before now showed itself directly in front of her. “I've found it!” Her head screamed with delight as she saw the end of her quest so near. Losing herself to the moment, she took off in a sprint for the glow. The light grew brighter, and brighter. “I can feel it! I can nearly touch it... so close!” A dark figure suddenly moved between Mindra and the light, blocking it out. Seeing the change, she made an effort to stop her headlong run, but before she could slow sufficiently, she felt a sharp crack to the back of her skull, and knew no more. ------ “Get up! How could let yourself be defeated so easily!? Awaken! You are not dead yet!” Mindra groaned softly and tried to force her eyes open. Something had awoken her. “Keep still!” the voice warned. The voice! It was back... well, at least one of them was. Heeding the advice, Mindra did her best to keep as still as possible, while assessing her situation. It seemed she was bound by crude ropes about her wrists and ankles. The bonds were loose, and the rope not very strong. She could probably break out of them... but how, without causing a scene. Who was here to watch her? She lay still and silent, trying to pierce the darkness and the silence to learn what she could about her captors. She could discern nothing. Well, if she couldn't see or hear her captors, perhaps they could not see her. She would just have to risk it. “No! Do not move. They can see and hear much better than you. There is another way.” Another way? What could she do if she could not see, or hear, or move? She thought of how she had managed to move down the tunnel based purely on instinct. She had done well until she had ruined everything in her excitement. She definitely had not controlled and harnessed her emotions well in that instance! Could the same thing work now? Mindra closed her eyes and fell into meditation once more. Suddenly, she began to perceive the room around her in quick flashes. There were creatures in the room! Large creatures with six legs, though they stood upright. Giant mandibles protruded from their faces, and they were covered with thick, scaly hide. Thin, membranous wings sprouted from their upper shoulders, though they did not look as if they would support the creatures in flight. ------ Mindra slowly brought herself out of meditation and glanced around the room. All trace of the creatures she had seen before was gone. How would she manage to fight them or find her way out of here if she could only seem them while meditating? What kind of test is this?! Was I sent all this way only to fail!? “Calm yourself. Concentrate. The Force can help you. Focus it, let it enhance your sight, your hearing.” Mindra attempted to will herself to relax. The wound on her head was beginning to throb incessantly. Her concentration was weak. Failure seemed imminent, and loomed over her like death. “NO!” her mind screamed. “I will NOT fail! Not when I have come so close!” The anger building inside of her was overwhelming. She knew that she must channel it soon, or it would give her away, and destroy her. She fought down the urge to scream, and in the silence she heard another voice. “Take your anger, focus it! Use it to destroy your enemies! Seek them out! Do not let them take you for a fool!” The second voice! It had also finally returned to her! Gritting her teeth, Mindra fought to push all of her anger into a tight ball, and then forced her eyes to see. She opened her eyes, and her steely gaze bore into every creature in the room. They were all there before her. And now she would destroy them. In a rage, she snapped the bonds loosely tied around her wrists and ankles, jumped to her feet and drew her blaster. Her aim was true. One right after another, the creatures fell before her. When her rage was spent, there was not another living soul in the room. The glow she had seen before, though ignored until this moment, was much brighter now. Slowly, with purpose, she made her way down the corridor to the glow. She entered the cavern. ------ The ceiling of this room was unbelievably high. She must have made her way directly under the mountainous slope she had walked down before. Here, the spring headwaters of the stream she had followed filled the room, leaving only small ledges all around the walls. Also along the wall, Mindra found the source of the glow. The crystals she had been seeking covered the walls circling the spring. She had found them. In awe of the power and beauty she had found, she made her way along the edge of the spring, gazing at the crystals. Her eye caught on one crystal in particular. It was lying loosely on the ground, broken off from one of the many clusters, and she seemed drawn to it. Reaching down, she took the crystal from the cavern floor and studied it. It was pale blue in colour, and hummedwith a slight warmth in her hand. Smiling to herself, she placed the crystal in to her belt pouch, and made her way cautiously out of the caverns. “Excellent!,” the second voice resounded in her head as she made her way back to the rendevous point. Her Master would be pleased. ------ |
