Sammie Kinnion stared at the star strewn sky, her fathomless black eyes trained on the same spot it had been for days. She hooked her index finger around one glistening red curl, twisting it nervously and tapping her foot impatiently while never taking her eyes off the spot. Sooner or later she knew, a black dot would appear amongst the glowing silver ones revealing itself to be a carnivorous bird bearing in its beak a parchment envelope. The owl would soar gracefully throught the air doing various arial tricks and flips until it would land lighter than a shadow rapping softly against the glass of Sammie's small bedroom window. The owl would stare doefully at the eager girl, before handing her the letter and with a soft "Thank you" from the latter would soar off into the night leaving behind something greater than it would ever know, at least in Sammie's eyes. It would be leaving behind an adventure. This was how Sammie had always imagined her admission into Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry and his was how it would happen. She knew it.

Tearing her eyes momentarily from the apparently empty night sky, Sammie stared thoughtfully out at the muggle children she had once played with and who now ran in circles, entertaining themselves, oblivious to the magic she posessed, her powers...

She had been to the muggle schools. She knew the things they taught such as fractions and proper punctuation. They had no idea that a school that taught you how to make a potion to change your hair bright yellow or handle unicorns existed. The were blissful in their ignorance. But Sammie was not. She was impatient and hotheaded and wanted nothing more than to receive her letter, rub it in her older brother's faces and head off to her new school with a wooden wand as her new best friend. She wanted to gaze at the Great Hall, taking in its magnificent grandour and its gleaming marble staircases which she had only witnessed in her dreams. She wanted to try a stunning spell and devour steak and turkey pie at the start of term feast. She wanted it all.

She turned her dark eyes back to the spot in the sky without any actual hope of seeing anything. She registered the fact that one of the stars was much darker than the others and it seemed to be falling. Falling straight to the earth. Flying straight at her house, growing bigger all the time.

Sammie recieved a shock so bad, it wasn't even funny. She watched in amazement as the owl performed everything she had ever imagined. Reaching her hand out, Sammie grasped the yellowish envelope with shaking fingers. She had been waiting for this moment forever... "Thank You," she whispered tearfully and knowing somehow that it had understood, the tawny owl soared away from her sill like a ghost. This was always where Sammie stopped the dream. She had never imagined the buildup of nervous excitement and emotion as she slit the back of the letter with her pinky.

Aleigha Micayla Kinnion, we are pleased to infform you that you have been accepted to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry... Tears streamed down Sammie's dark face as she felt her trembling lips call out, "Mom? You won't believe what just happened."
