Needles stabbed into her skin. Liquid fire raced through her veins as the auto-injector shot whatever the latest drug was into her. Her heart sped up, her breathing became heavier as her vision turned red...A red biotic field started to surround her as she was shoved out of the door and off a ledge, into a pit below...Three armed men were waited for her, guns aimed...

Then screams. Blood flying, flesh screaming...Ecstasy...Darkness...

Kiaris woke up with a start, sitting up from the dirty alley floor she was sleeping on and gasping for breath. It was the same nightmare she always had...Or at least part of it. Why she had it and what it meant was beyond her, but, it terrified her...She always spent waking up from it crying...

She had no idea who she was aside from a name, one she wasn't even sure was her's. But, it stuck. Aside from her name, she had her clothes. credits she stole from someone, and...That was about it. She knew nothing else, only that she was on some space station called Omega all alone. Which, was never a good thing.

As she was just reminded...

"Heeeey....Look what we have here..." a voice said. Looking up, at the entrance of the alley, she saw a batarian standing there, waving to some friends. Two other batarians walked over, and seeing her, they all grinned. Kylan and his friends had just been thrown out of Afterlife, after some human wielding a gun didn't take too kindly to the way they had "greeted" her. Damn humans...They thought they were the ones n charge. Well, time to take care of that.

"What's wrong, human? You look like you need some...company..." he said, stepping into the alley with his two companions. The girl scrambled back away, but she could only go so far before hitting a wall. The batarians laughed. "You aren't going anywhere girl..." Kylan said.

"I love Omega." another said, "We get to have all kinds of fun." And they advanced on the helpless human girl, knowing her weak cries of help would go unanswered. No on in Omega particularly cared about humans. Even other humans...

Romere

That asshole and his friends were able to get away with a gun wave only because Romere was exhausted. A week and a half spent chasing a damn turian all over the galaxy like she was a fucking justicar. She didn’t know how much sleep she got, but she was sure that it was in the single digits and she did it all upright. The very nanosecond she got the turian onto her ship she made a call to set up a meeting place so she could exchange the turian for her credits and be done with it.

That’s why she was on Omega, in Afterlife, drinking coffee instead of the drinks the bartender suggested. Romere made her trade 20 minutes before that asshole decided to invade her personal space, but she still had some work to do, and she knew very well that without any caffeine that the moment she sat down she was going to sleep for 72 hours straight. Finally the bartender told her that if she wasn’t going to get anything to drink that she needed to clear space for the drunks. She pushed away from the counter without a fight, leaving the noise of Afterlife for the ripe air of Omega.

She looked at her Omni-tool. It was late, but what was time on this space station? Romere thought about stopping by the market before she took off. Perhaps that quarian was still there keeping shop for that elcor. She’d forgotten both of their names, but not that deal she was able to get o her chest plate—

A brief glance down an alley she was passing by made her stop. The scene at the other end was nothing new in this place, in her world, and on any other occasion Romere would have minded her own damn business and carried on her way. But she recognized the outfits of the group. Those fucking assholes from Afterlife. And this was why some people didn’t need mercy. Not even a half hour later and up to some more shit.

Romere’s sight was somewhat obscure, however with the way they were set up it was fairly obvious they had someone blocked off. That one Romere would show mercy. As for the rest, she reached out, Pulling the entire group towards her. She counted 3. The first one she Slammed, his body crunching sickeningly against the ground. She physically dragged the second one out of the air, hitting him in the face with a heavy punch.

The third found his footing and tried to scramble out of the alley. Uninterested in wasting ammo on such an asshole, she waited for a moment, giving herself a rest before Charging after him. She sent him flying too far to see what happened to him but she was more than confident that he was no longer going to be a problem.

Romere looked down at her dark blue armor. No blood, not that her equipment was cleaned anyway. That reminded her of one of the tasks she wanted to finish before she finally got some damn sleep. Dark eyes glanced back to the other end of the island. They were harassing a girl, what a surprise. “Are you alright?” she asked out of reflex.

The Girl

Alright, well...Maybe some humans on Omega stilled cared about their own race.

Kylan was just close enough to grab the human girl's wrists when he was interrupted. But before Nix had arrived, well, it was fairly obvious that the three batarians were excited at the prospect of having a human girl to themselves. Despite her ragged and dirty appearance, she was quite a piece of eye candy. A slim body, yet curvy enough in just the right places to catch even an alien's eyes, and one that left little to the imagination with the state that her clothes were in. If they could even be called clothes, that is...They were barely more than rags.

She had all the appearances of living on the street aside from malnutrition. The rest was all there though--dirt, ragged clothing, bruises and scrapes and other injuries...

Her hair was long, falling to just above her breasts, but it suffered from her life on the streets. It was dirty and matted, and more than likely infested with fleas and lice. But it held an odd color for a human. Her hair was a dark purple, obvious even through the dirt. Of course, bizarre hair colors on humans were nothing new, not in this day and age.Her eyes were the strangest thing, though...They were blue, but not a normal blue. The iris were a light, maybe sky or ice blue. But her pupils, instead of being black as normal, were a very dark navy blue. Don't ask why, she didn't even know of the discoloration. Or, more precisely, why the pupils had color at all. All in all, though, she was certainly unique enough to set her apart from blending in with all other humans.

Despite being in a very dangerous position, though, the girl was just...blank. In her panic she had just frozen up, and stood there as a shield. No struggling, no nothing. With hands limp at her side, she just stared ahead, her uniquely colored eyes just staring ahead. The only rise from her was a slight dilating of the pupils as a biotic field wrapped around them, be body prepared to react to an imminent threat...

She watched, passively, as the three batarians were dispatched by a woman with biotics, uncertain if she was in danger. One was crushed against the ground and didn't move. Another was knocked out of the air with a punch. And then the woman was gone, charging down the third batarian. In was in that brief moment that the second one, the one that had only been punched, pushed himself back to his feet.

"B-Bitch..." he said, spitting out teeth, "You had friend!" He drew his pistol and aimed at the girl, firing at her, before intending to deal with the intruder in blue armor. The mass-effect projected rounds flew at the armorless and shieldless girl. She should have been dead. Yet, be blinked with all four eyes, as she didn't fall. A biotic field had sprung up around her. Yet where most biotics had blue or purple-ish fields...Her's was violet, a bit more on the red side. And she had caught the rounds fired at her, hovering in the field around her, before they dissolved.

"What the--" was all he got out, before his head was surrounded by a similar field, and his head snapped back, the back of his head now touching the spot between his shoulders blades. As the body dropped, the batarian that had been smashed into the ground groaned, slowly trying to push himself up. His presence was enough to grab the girl's attention, and he was lifted up, and slammed back into the ground. He let out a strangled cry, though, as the force kept pushing him down, all but flattening him against the ground, until the force acrually broke the ground around him and created a crater.

All of that happening, without the girl so much as moving a muscle...

Her blue eyes now had a red glow to them, and they looked at the woman when she called out. She...She wasn't a threat. With the threat gone, the red biotics faded away, and the blank, lifeless look left the girl's face. It was briefly replaces by one of panic, fear, before her eyes just rolled back into her head, and she collapsed to the ground, out cold, the biotic display overtaxing what limited strength she had.

Romere looked up from her armor and to the girl just in time to see the fading of a red light. She didn’t even have the chance to form any shock about the bloodier scene before she had to react to the girl fainting. She took another look around the alley before balling her hand into a fist and pressing it up against her mouth in thought.

She couldn’t say she wasn’t fully and thoroughly thinking anything through when she stepped into the alley, but if she had given any thought to her intent it would have been to help the girl and carry on about her merry way. Intervene but still keep her nose as far out of business that wasn’t her own as possible. Fainting complicated things. She could turn around and carry on, but what of the girl?

Romere glanced over her shoulder. A small group of vorcha passed by the alley. A turian followed behind them, though he slowed to examine the scene. They helped make things simple for Romere. She could not leave the girl in that alley. It would be a waste of time assuming what she would do if she regained consciousness because she would not get that far. Some other group would arrive to finish what the batarians started.

She was many things—primarily tired—but she was not the kind of woman that would leave anyone to the fate that the girl had waiting for her. So, sidestepping a dead asshole with a wicked neck snap and a crater that appeared to be created by another dead asshole, she gathered the girl in her arms bridal style and carried her away.

Under the clear lights of the bedroom on her ship Romere could see just how bad off the girl looked. Why those batarians were messing with a clearly homeless woman was not beyond Romere’s comprehension. It was Omega. Who was really safe?

Probably going to send her off with those sheets… Romere thought idly as she started working herself out of her armor. She had no plans for sleep though. She would wait until the girl woke up, then send her on her way to whatever ‘clinic’ she preferred. After that she could go back to her regular schedule, a schedule that now included drowning her bed in disinfectant.

Then screams. Blood flying, flesh screaming...Ecstasy of the highest kind...

The first guard was picked up and tossed into the air. Before he even started falling back down she was on the next man, knocking the assault rifle from his hands. It would have been comical, a nine-year-old knocking a full grown man to the ground, if in the next second she hadn't picked up his head and slammed it into the ground with enough force to create a small crate, and leave below her hand nothing but a red, mushy lump of what used to be a head.

The first guard landed and bounced back into the air. Caught by a biotic field before he fell again he was spun and thrown into the third guy. The first guy stayed down, alive, barely, most of his bones broken. The third guy picked himself up off of the ground only to freeze as he was caught in a biotic field. He looked at the little girl...Her hands were held out in front of her, palms together. With a sadistic grin, she pulled her hands apart, the man barely given a second to scream before the two new halves of his body coated her in red...

"G-Get her back in her c-cell! Now!"

The hell in her mind was in no way reflected on her unconscious body. She just laid there, in whatever position she was in after Nix dropped her on the bed.

As the voice came over the intercom in her dream, though, she snapped awake. Jerking in the bed, she sat up with a start, looking around. This wasn't her box in that alleyway. It was a...ship? But not their ship. They hadn't gotten her. Though...Who was "they?" She didn't know...Where was she?

Looking over and seeing the woman, she yelped, surprised, jumping back a bit.

"Wh-Who are you? Where...Where am I?" she asked, obviously scared. She didn't recognize the woman as being the same that had helped her, or tried to, in the alley. When she had her "episodes" as she called them, as she had no idea what happened when she blacked out, some amnesia was usually expected.
