Nash
--

This world is cold and cruel, yet beautiful and grand. Only birds know what lies beyond the horizon... But I have begun to feel and see things that were not meant to be. I see demons, mother, right where the horizon ends, there is a black cloud of monsters only waiting to indulge into the flesh of this world. The sky turns red, mother. And my hands... My hands became something not of my own. I feel a power circling under my skin, and whenever I get too emotional electrical bolts swirl all around me, like a shield... I am a freak, mother. You poor body has sacrificed itself for a freak. I'm sorry, mother, I'm so sorry...

The small paper note was picked up from the ground in front of a tombstone and sent flying through the air, landing on the street and drowned in a puddle, words soon smothering into unreadable blue stains. Forgotten, never meant to be read, never meant to be seen by the eyes of any living being except the one that wrote this. And this young man, barely 18, walked down the autumn street alone, his head hung down like there was a weight on his shoulders and his light almost violet eyes looking to the ground like there was no tomorrow.

It was cold, the last few days of November in this small old city full of trash and brilliant streetlights reflecting in the small puddles that were always there, regardless of heat or cold, it rained every day. He would have passed by, he would never have stopped if his eyes didn't notice a falling snowflake.

But he did. He saw the little snow angel fall down in every detail; so slowly and gently, swirling and dancing in the little waves of the wind. He stopped, in awe, and his eyes slowly lifted up to the gray skies. His slim hands wrapped around his shoulders, huddling up into the warm white fur collar of his white coat. He let out a husked breath, the warm air scattering away from his mouth in a white cloud. One by one the snowflakes fell down, little angels drifting to their ultimate doom, each piece unique and never the same... Like people. In that falling snow he saw lives, time and eternity. Awed by the feeling he sighed deeply, the white coat slightly falling from his shoulders as if to let the snow touch the pale skin there, only a sleeveless black shirt underneath the white fur.

But all things have their end and his eyes finally drifted down and away, right into the window of a small cafe. And there he saw his destiny. He didn't know that that was it yet, but with every fiber of his body he felt a jolt run down from the tip of his head right to the end of his toes. Like electricity, the hair on his body standing up. His eyes widened slightly as they met the eyes of another man that looked straight at him.

A few long moments, yet never long enough, of just staring at each other. There was something about him that just screamed of familiarity. Maybe... maybe he knew who he was? Why these powers awoke in him? What it meant, that shadow over the horizon? The questions arose in his mind like a storm and settled into the very bone of his skull, not leaving him alone.

He wanted to come in and ask, to drown him in questions; he had so many... But what if he was wrong? Nash's fingers nervously fidgeted in the white fur, hesitating. But what was he hesitating for? Either way, there was nothing to lose. Nothing, not a single damn thing... Except, maybe, to never see this man again.

Their gazes parted as his eyes turned to the door of the cafe. He still hesitated, he still feared. He always feared in this day and age, always alone, never able to protect his loved ones... Why should he fear any of this? A few words and either he's what he hopes he is, or Nash will come out as a complete madman in his eyes.

His fingers slowly pushed the door into the cafe, the bell tingled into the rhythm of the silent music that suddenly crashed into his ears. And again, he saw that man, electric light violet eyes thriving in that beautiful vision....

Beaurigard Jackson sat at his little table in the coffee shop, feeling overly warm with the combination of warm air from the vents and body heat from the other customers. The atmosphere was oppressive, almost stifling, but it was better than being outside and seeing the monstrous silhouettes over the horizon that seemed to get closer and closer no matter how far he ran.

So, he'd stopped here in this tiny, dirty city that seemed full of people who were just as gray and desolate as those shadows. He no longer turned his back on the horizon, but neither did he embrace it. It would come when it came, and he would deal with it then.

For now, he was mostly content to sit and sip a hot cup of bad coffee, his verdant green eyes scanning over the other patrons and occasionally lifting to look out of the large glass window into the street beyond. Coal black hair was pushed out of a strongly built face with one broad, long fingered hand when it fell forward into his eyes.

One one of the few times his gaze went to the window, he was shocked to find himself mesmerized by the sight of a slim, pale young man who stood just outside the cafe, watching a single snowflake make it's way down from the sky. For some unknown reason, Beau couldn't pull his eyes away, and when the youth looked up and their gazes locked, the muscled male felt an electric jolt shoot from the top of his head down to the tips of his toes, and the feeling left his whole body tingling.

A brief thought in the back of his mind whispered with familiarity, but he was fairly certain that he'd never seen the other male before. He would have remembered those hauntingly sad eyes and such a delicately lovely face.

One dark eyebrow rose when the slender lad moved to the door of the cafe and pushed it open slowly, but he watched silently until the little tinkle of the bell woke him from his stupor. As if in a dream, Beau rose from his seat and made his way over to the waif, green gaze locked on the slender figure as though no one else existed anywhere in the world but the two of them.

When he drew near, he murmured, "This might sound weird, but, I think I know you. Can I buy you a bad cup of coffee and try to figure out where I might know you from?"
Humanity is a never ending loop of amusement for one reason or another; you just have to dig far enough past the bullshit and fake faces to find the true core of idiocy.

Before he knew it, or even came to understand it, the other was standing clear in front of him, every detail of his features now broad to his eyes. It made him nervous to stand to close to someone that made him feel electrified and that was in the literal meaning of the sense. The light violet shifted from one green orb to another, every moment lasting longer than the other, as if he didn't even want him to speak a word.

The voice and gentle movement of lips, as he murmured into the music and chatter, seemed as if he was speaking straight into his ear, the sound of his voice forever marking his senses, never wanting to hear any other but this specific tone, even though he didn't realize it now, only feeling a bit awkward being asked to have a coffee...

Actually, maybe that familiarity was real, maybe they have met somewhere and this was all just a trick of his imagination and just plain wishful thinking, hoping that he wasn't the only freak in this world, that maybe someone knew more about this. Maybe, maybe, maybe...

Maybe he would have known more about this if his parents were alive. Maybe he would have never even bothered about the shadows over the horizon. Maybe it was all just a bad dream that he couldn't wake from. Maybe this man was just an imagined being like everything else from his powers to the demons and that his doctor was right and he was crazy...

A long moment passed as he thought it over and over, trying to remember if he ever saw those vibrant green eyes anywhere, if the strong features of his face ever passed his vision in some other life before it all started... Yet, no memory was clear, only those of loss and pain and destruction still burning as bright as the day they were mercilessly nailed into his mind.

He pushed it away, deciding that even if he ever did, he didn't take much notice, though he couldn't believe he ever could do such a thing. How could he miss these eyes, those lips, that feeling he got just from looking at him, just from standing so close, how could he have seen and not be taken by it? This was beyond him and the only way to understand was to follow him. Either way, he had questions that he wanted answered, positively or not.

"Sure..." he answered in a sigh. Realizing that all this time he was holding his breath startled him a little and sent an unpleasant tingle down his spine, rushing blood through his system for a moment, yet his cheeks always pale like porcelain, only his eyes going down from the emerald green to the nose and lips, lingering on them before he dropped his gaze down and away a little, anywhere just not to look into his eyes again. Suddenly, the green abyss was too exciting to look at and the little feather stuck in the window seemed so much more interesting.
