They’d lived for thousands of years without any danger of being killed by other species. They ruled the skies as they saw fit. No one dared too stand up against them and they generally enjoyed an uncomplicated life. That was until those armor wearing humans appeared and started attacking them in groups. One or two of those armored humans were easy enough to deal with, but when a large group of them showed up it was much more troublesome. The creatures that were once pretty much invisible started to slowly but surely be killed off. They fled too area’s that those humans wouldn’t dare chase after them, but eventually even area’s once deemed safe were no longer. So they fled further and further until they ended up in the lands of their eastern relatives. The armored human’s stopped chasing them for a few centuries, not wanting to venture so far into unknown lands. Eventually though they did breach the unspoken boundaries of the eastern lands and started to attack them there as well. They tried to run, but their populations started to dwindle even more and more. Those old enough ran off to uninhabitable area’s and the eastern relatives ran too hide in temples and used magic to appear like the human’s that chased after them, doing their best to blend into the crowds of people in the eastern lands. The young though were unable to hide as humans or run away and many were murdered. A few of the elders placed their eggs in the care of the temples and with distant villages, hoping that even if everyone else was too die off, eventually one or two of these eggs would survive under the care of the villagers. So it was that more centuries passed and it neared the year 1901 and one of these eggs had been passed along into the care of a Shinto temple in Japan. The temple took in that egg, protecting it and working to do their best to hatch it, not quite knowing what it was that they had taken into hand. The egg that rested on a silk pillow was silver in color with black and purple designs upon it. It was at least 100 years old now, having traveled from China to Japan, though there was certainly more too the egg’s story then that. A thin crack could be seen forming on one side of the egg, speaking to it starting to hatch after so many years. No one at the temple had any clue what could be in this egg. The theories were anything from a phoenix to a kirin. Though the most widely recognized and agreed upon theory was a dragon, though if it was a more European or more Asian style dragon no one could be certain of. The crack slowly started to grow on the egg, a soft glow emanating from the egg as the crack grew along the egg, pieces starting too fall away before the glowing dies down. As that glowing disappears, egg pieces could be seen about the table the egg rested upon, in the middle of the silk pillow a small Asian dragon laid. It was covered in silver and black scales with a purple fur mane. As it’s eyes opened slowly the were a deep purple, looking about the room in mind curiosity before they fell closed again. The little dragon yawned, revealing sharp teeth and a pale pink tongue. It feel back asleep on the pillow, none the wiser too the fact that it was most likely one of the last of it’s kind. |
