Gazing up at Maxim, he tilted his head a bit in confusion. "Number?" He shock his head. "I'm afraid you've been misinformed. I have no such device." Turning, he gestured to his laptop. "I have no need, really, with such a vast super highway of technology. A phone seems .... obsolete. I may give you my e-mail but I don't really see how that would help. I do have it open everyday, all the time, however ... and I do take it with me very often ..."

Pushing himself off the bed, Keys moved over to his little desk and picked up a pen. From there, he tore a small piece of paper from the clipboard that lay beside his computer. Scribbling something down, he moved over to Maxim and presented him the piece of paper. His penmanship was something that could have been envied. It was a good size, very clean and easy to read and wasn't too feminine in curve. Something Alan had long since been proud of but doubted most people would care to notice.

"However, please refrain from being surprised if I do not answer you right away. That is to say, you will get a reply but quite possibly not right away. I have business and activities to attend to as well." It sounded cheeky and, really, it was but he gave a slight smile to try and distract from that fact. Perhaps (and hopefully) Maxim wouldn't take notice.

With that, he returned to take a seat on his bed. Fiddling with his fingers, he looked unsure of what to really say. He wasn't exactly well versed or good at upholding menial conversations. Looking about the room for a moment, he finally looked back over at the other boy. "Well, I suspect you would like to get back to your previous task before my presence interrupted you." He waved his hand toward the other's desk. "Thank you for entertaining my curiosity."

"What kind of weirdo doesn't have a cellphone?" Maxim laughed, though his light tone indicated that he wasn't actually mocking the geek. Still, the jock might've picked his words better. "What are you supposed to do in case of emergencies? Seems kind of unsafe to me." He shifted around and pointed his thumb at a cordless phone sitting next to his bed. "I guess I'll have to call you on my own phone, then. And hope you're not too busy to be home."

He took the e-mail adress anyway. Maybe one day he'd figure out how to use the thing, so you never knew.

That said, Maxim was getting hungry. "Actually, I'll be off now. Got to know the local food places better, right?" He flashed a bright smile at his roomie, the kind of winning smile an actor would flash at a camera. "You can tag along if you like."

He'd be lying if he said the comment didn't offend him at least a little. He didn't exactly have many friends to call if he needed to and besides, this was college. It was all about new beginnings which meant a completely blank slate to be filled with whatever he deemed worthy. This time, school was all about him and pleasing himself; not pleasing his parents. He'd done this all on his own.

Wow, that thought has gotten a little away on him. However, because of it, it served to lower his annoyance over the phone matter. If Maxim really needed him, he could likely find him here.

Wait ... what? He looked confused.

A jock ... inviting a geek anywhere was never a good thing. However, Alan couldn't ignore that his smile was very trustworthy. It was almost disturbingly easy to convince him. Sliding his hand over his bed, he remained looking meek about the idea.

.... But it would be good to get a look around the neighborhood ....

He shifted in place before he brought himself to his feet. This was college. 'Blank slate' he reminded himself.

"I don't see why I cannot keep you company." He gave a weak smile.

Perhaps he could learn more about his roommate. Lord knows he wanted to work on trust with the person he was going to be trusting his sleeping self to. It was essential that he learn more about the man ... boy ... whatever.

Moving over to his desk, he lifted his clipboard and held it to his side before looking prepared to head out. "Shall we be off then?"
