Nevio perked up a brow when a question of his party habits came up. “I party by not partying. That’s why I told you not to worry about parties.” The techie explained slowly, eyeing the one standing in his bedroom for whatever reason. Slowly his eyes turned back down to his computer screen, the one that was sputtering to life in the same way that a car made in the 1920s might in the present day. It actually gave up on him once, irritated that it was being asked to perform its only useful function in life beyond being an out of style paperweight. “If you’re asking me what my definition of a party is, I can’t give you that.” He had to give up what made him feel like a skinny school girl at a rave a long time ago. It wasn’t for good but he also didn’t see himself returning to his hobby professionally during the time he’d be sharing the same space as his special needs roommate. There was no fear of getting caught so much as there was a worry of lack of privacy and time. He still had to get a better grasp of the other man before he did anything beyond what he did at the library: sleep, eat, use the computer, use the bathroom, and repeat until he felt like switching things up and doing all of that naked. One thing he was thankful about was the shower he could insert into the mix. Nevio jabbed at his power button again, holding it for the appropriate length of time that made him comfortable and watching the beat up and uninspiring screen flicker to life for him once again seemingly resigned to the idea that Nevio once again wasn’t going to leave it alone until it turned on. “Stealth mode?” Was he part gamer? He couldn’t be a full on pick a WoW and Modern Warfare marathon over a woman or a meal that didn’t come hot in a box any day, Nevio could sense those a mile away. He didn’t know who else would use stealth mode as a way to describe silence and keep a straight face about it, though. “If you want to call it that.” He concluded as he watched a pixilated hourglass turn around and around as his computer’s brain turned out. “Just use an indoor voice, like you did in kindergarten, especially if I’m sleeping. Then we’ll be as fine as Georgia wine.” Nevio propped his elbow on the nearby armrest and stretched out his legs, still fixated on the screen that got sadistic pleasure from taking ages to fully power up. “Is there any reason you’re just standing in there?” Something told him he was going to get an insane answer and he should forget asking about understanding any reply before Soma opened his mouth. |

Soma still had yet to understand how someone could make 'party' a verb. And to make matters more confusing, Nevio apparently partied by not partying. Thus his use of such a word may go by totally unnoticed by Soma. Would he ask if he was partying at odd intervals or would Nevio be sure to inform Soma when he decided to not party? How could you not party anyway? He didn't understand the term but Soma knew it was hard to do a negative. Perhaps he was over thinking it. Nevio even admitted that he couldn't explain how he defined a party to Soma anyway. Perhaps it was one of those 'inside jokes' that normal people were so fond of. If you didn't experience this not partying business then you were ill equipped to understand both what partying and a lack of partying entailed. Soma, naturally, had unusually good sight and his life had instilled him in the ability to spot electronics and computer screens from a mile away. Thus when Nevio's laptop powered on his eyes were instantly drawn to it. Soma wasn't a computer person though. He knew how to use what people provided him with and more often than not he was given dummy programs and viruses to upload into enemy systems that were created by the best geeks that a billion tootsie roll pops and endless gallons of mountain dew could provide. Computer people or anyone who had ever owned a computer and was interested in keeping it were notoriously anxious whenever Soma came into a room with their precious machines and for good reason too. Soma wasn't a computer person, as mentioned above, his inclination upon seeing a computer was to destroy it. If it was a target computer he'd interact with it, but otherwise he had an almost insatiable desire to eliminate anything attached to a camera or used in evil activities. That being said, he put a tight stopper on this impulse that would surely be helped along by the fact that he had his personal restraining order as a natural mode of operation. "So you would like me to operate in stealth mode?" he asked again, feeling his spirits take a dive. He'd never be out of practice, but then he'd never get to know his new roommate (well in a one-sided sort of way he would). The thing about the voice was equally perplexing. Soma adapted a sort of self-irritated look at all the new terms he'd have to learn about to survive. "I only attended kindergarten for about a week..." The question about why he was in his room though was easy to answer. All confusion was gone in the light of a query he had an answer to and his million watt smile demonstrated his newfound confidence. "I've found the prime distance for social interaction while eliminating the chance of even accidental contact. If I keep this same distance from you at all times we can go along with our day without having an incident against your personal or professional code. With the exception of unforeseen occurrences, this is the closest I'll allow myself to come to you." He glanced behind him with a flicker of concern. "Do you need more space?" |

So he didn’t make it through kindergarten. That was a nice discovery. Nice, but strangely not a surprise considering a lot of those basic social mannerisms people needed to make it from day to day were acquired there, not to mention the grades beyond. If he didn’t finish kindergarten then it wasn’t possible for him to move on, if school still worked like the brunette thought they did. There was always homeschooling but he wasn’t going to give Soma that benefit of the doubt. “Okay then, use the voice you would use in the library if you weren’t aiming to tick off the librarian with your presence.” Nevio rephrased without missing too many beats. “You’ve been in a library correct? Big building with books, computers, and college kids pretending to care about academics?” His computer finally decided to bring up his home screen, something that looked a lot more advanced than the machine it was being displayed on. Nevio jabbed his index finger heavily against the mouse pad, dragging his mouse across the screen so he could find some Wi-Fi to steal from the neighbors. As he did he kicked off his shoes, using his toes to straighten them up and push him off to the side and out of his way. He snorted in amusement when he was given a reason for Soma’s distance. A flicker of humor might have even passed through his soft blue eyes that were half covered by lids while his head was tipped downward. At least his suggestion was listened to. “That makes sense.” Nevio nodded shortly, biting his lip lightly as he lied. That made no sense whatsoever. The only thing that did was the notion that the man was taking his words far too literally. Not that he minded greatly, there was no chance of his being touched by Soma purposely or accidentally if he was always a room away from him no matter where he was. “Tell me something though.” Nevio pushed some of his limp locks out of his face and tapped his fingers against his chin lightly in a steady consistent beat. “If I’m sitting out here on the couch, how are you supposed to get from there to, let’s say, the kitchen,” He stuck his thumb in the direction of the room for a bit of emphasizing. “without getting any closer to me than you are right now?” |

Soma hoped that it wasn't too odd to admit that he'd never been properly through school, or kindergarten for that matter. He'd been given education by means of private tutors who gave him necessary grade-level knowledge between training regimens. He was certain he had the equivalent of a degree in something-or-other, but since Soma planned on keeping his career for the foreseeable future then it didn't matter that he didn't have a resume to show the normal public. He adapted a sorrowful look and his lower lip pouted slightly as he was asked about the library. "No. I've never been to one of those either. Archives, but not libraries. And in archives you're not allowed to speak at all unless you want to be thrown out immediately." Whenever he needed a book someone from home would send it to him. Soma knew what a library was, but only on the 'identifying this in a different language' sense. His mood lightened once again (it was sort of like a roller coaster sometimes) when he asked asked about what would happen if he needed to go somewhere else since moving from his room would put him much closer to Nevio than he promised. "That's easy. Either I wait until you move or I can always go around," he admitted, pointing toward his own extensive supply of windows. It would be child's play even with his normal boots to scale the wall to the balcony and if he entered from the farther door than proper distance could still be maintained. |

Nevio considered himself a puzzle solver. That was made him an excellent computer guy, in his opinion. Computers were just one big puzzle, whether it was putting the hardware together, putting software together, building programs, tearing down and bypassing other programs, all he had to do was figure out what pieces went in what order and then he could get a computer to dance for him. His roommate was probably the most odd puzzle he’d come across in a while and he managed to discover it within the first 20 minutes in his new apartment. He didn’t make it past the first week of kindergarten, nor had he ever been inside of a library. Soma couldn’t have even heard about a library in his youth because Nevio’s description of it was crystal clear. His 4 year old cousin would be able to figure out that he was talking about a library and he wasn’t bright enough to stop snacking on his toes yet. Beyond all of that he seemed to be having the hardest time grasping the concept of just keeping the volume down. What was supposed to be a 2 second suggestion quickly became a lengthy conversation about what level of quiet the other needed to be. Eyes picked up from the computer as soon ears picked up on the word around. Nevio’s gaze followed the path of Soma’s finger, snorting once again when he pointed to the window. “That makes sense. Again.” It would also make complete sense when the melding doorman had a heart attack from having blood sprayed on him thanks to a body dropping from the ninth floor. Even with the balcony that risk of meeting the sidewalk below was always great. “You’re quite an idiot aren’t you?” While it would have been entertaining to watch Soma try to maneuver around the apartment while keeping a room away from him at all times it would be an inconvenience to have to go through finding a new place and a roommate that wouldn’t over examine his personality in an interview before he was allowed to set foot in the place. “I really believe you’d go through the windows and force me to spend another month with my parents, so listen to me. I think you operate like a computer and with these things I have to be very specific about what I want. Stay at least 3 feet away from me while I’m standing up, and at least one cushion away from me sitting down. As long as you’re not closer than that then how far away you are doesn’t bother me.” He looked back at his computer, successfully hacking an internet connection while he spoke. “Any confusion?” Nevio muttered, biting down on the edge of his lip. |

Having unrealistic or insane predictions about the world probably didn't do Soma any favors. Not once did it occur to his cotton candy brain that it might not be a good idea to promise people that he'd be fine and dandy just to slip outside for a minute so he could avoid coming within the obscene about of distance he had personally determined that his roommate needed. It wasn't that he thought normal people were eager to jump out windows, that didn't logically follow. It was just that if he had the skills then it seemed silly to pretend that he didn't. If pressed for whys he could always explain that his parents had very diligently made sure to train him physically in order to survive in the this rough, rough world. He thought he'd fall? That seemed to be what Nevio's tone and word choice implied. How sweet! they hadn't been acquainted for more than a half hour or so and the other man was already worried about his well being. That was a good indicator of a much brighter future for the two of them. Perhaps they would get along well after all. That stealth mode thing must have been something of an exaggeration for if he didn't want Soma to speak at all then he probably would have said that. The blonde brushed his kitten-soft (yes, kitten soft. He may have been an idiot, but he was an adorable idiot) hair with a hand and turned on the unintentional charm toward Nevio. "That's so kind but don't worry. Three feet is one of those sort of odd distances that I'm sure I'd forget about. This is close enough but at least I know that's the maximum emergency distance I can be so I won't have to go to extreme measures to make sure I don't get closer than I should. I'll just amend it to whenever I stop I have to be this far away from you so travel distance will be irrelevant. I can move pretty swiftly so I'm sure you won't be put out." He had to make extreme accommodations in order to make the other man comfortable. Soma hated being on someone's bad side. "So aren't you going to look at your room? I'm sure that auntie did a good job," Soma said. He leaned out of his doorway and glanced at the room next door to his curiously, taking in the sign and the fixings for it laid out in front of the other man's room for a second time. |

Nevio shook his head. “However you want to do it is fine with me. “ He relented, holding up a hand to show that Soma didn’t need to explain another thing. As long as the blonde didn’t lay a hand on him again and force him to have another fit of tears—he hoped Soma would forget about that little panic of not being allowed personal space—then he was free to choose whatever distance he wanted to keep from Nevio. If he wanted to spend the rest of his time in the apartment crawling through windows and strategically scaling the roof in order to keep that distance then who was he to stop him from doing it? If it was anything that would interfere with him being able to keep his place in the apartment then he would be sure to stop it, but he would cross that bridge when that moat appeared. “I’m sure that your aunt went through great effort to dress up my room.” The man offered lightly in reply as he pulled open an old e-mail account of his. “If she ever drops by I’ll apologize for all of that wasted effort. I however am more of a couch loving man—what the hell is this?” Nevio started to pat one of the cushions of the piece of furniture that would serve as a bed whenever Soma spent his nights at home and his fingers brushed up against one of the labels that were fixed to the cushions. Unceremoniously he yanked it off of the surface and propped it up against his laptop screen so he could get a look at it. It was a couch cushion of sorts…some part of the furniture that he was resting on, only it also had a smile and the kind of big eyes that had to have the ability to clearly see everyone’s nightmares. It was a sure sign that their place was meant to cater to the comforts to a child and Nevio would have remained assured that he needed to guard himself against the impending threat of tiny fingers if he wasn’t so graciously given that special highlighted number made just for Soma. At least these god awful things aren’t just for decoration. When a chill zapped down his spine the man tossed the picture away and focused on his email again. Nevio wanted to look anywhere but at his computer though when he noticed a very recent message sitting innocently in his inbox. Only a specific group of people knew that he held that address and in several years they hadn’t made an active effort to contact him. Did the email mean they were aware of his existence again? Carefully shutting his laptop Nevio got to his feet and made his way towards the kitchen with a yawn. He wanted to see if the fridge and pantry came stocked like their other rooms did. Sadly he didn’t see anything he liked. “I’m going to by food.” Languidly he made the announcement to his roommate, pulling the ponytail that formed at the base of his neck before packing away his laptop to take along with him. Rarely was he ever separated from that machine. “I’ll be back in a while. Try not to try any window tricks while I’m gone.” He groped against the seating of the couch for the key that Erica left behind, stuffing it into one of the pockets of his beige cargo pants as he crossed the living room to get to the door. |

Soma wondered why he wanted to sleep on the couch when there was a room already prepared for him. Perhaps he would have company? Or maybe he didn't want to be so close to Soma despite the fact that there was a wall between them? Soma crossed his arms and leaned against his doorframe as he thought about this possibility. It seemed absurd at first, but was it...personal? He hadn't offended the other man that much by touching his shoulder to the point where he didn't even want to stomach the idea of not being able to see if Soma left his room, right? He wasn't that repugnant of a person? Was it his looks? He raked at his bangs lightly. People at the base had made snide remarks but most people weren't mortally offended by them so maybe not that? He certainly didn't have some sort of unpleasant odor since he showered routinely every day. His voice wasn't grating, was it? It was pretty standard, not remarkable but Soma hadn't ever been teased about it... So was it his personality then? His occupation? But Nevio didn't know that so it must have been his social skills (or lack of in Soma's case). Wonderful. He sighed and messed with something just under the sleeve of his jacket as his roommate got up from the sofa and made his way into the kitchen. "To the store? I haven't been in ages," Soma supplied. He'd gone a few times over the years with his mother or his father. He wasn't at all picky about food, he'd literally eat whatever someone else convinced him was safe and/or healthy. It lead to quite a few amusing siblings bets that he never understood over the years, but Soma was well versed in that people had to have their own personal food preferences or else tantrums would be had (Amethyst and ho-hos were a topic forbidden to be discussed ever again, everyone knew to keep the pantry healthily stocked with them and with that the matter was closed). "Would you like me to go with you?" Soma asked. This perhaps would give him the answers he needed. "I mean I don't have to, there's nothing I think I need but I thought...we could...get to...know...each...other." By this point his eyes were focused somewhere around Nevio's shoes and his voice had deadened to something like a whisper. Sadly, Soma's cheer had been impacted by his own doubts and with it his ability to speak like a normal human being. |

It wasn’t the sound of Soma’s voice that got Nevio to slow down his leaving, it was his big bad enemy the doorknob. Once again he had to tap it without any physical interruption and unlike the doorman’s deplorable voice his roommate’s wasn’t enough to throw him off of his task. He thought about the request on tap 4, weighing the pros and cons. If Soma came with him then he could buy all of the things that he liked and wanted so he wouldn’t be tempted to nosh on Nevio’s stockpile of stuff while he debated when he was going to do his own shopping. There was a chance that if he tagged along with Nevio that he would do something questionably odd and get them banned from whatever store that was nearby. He sighed on his eight tap, pulling the door open and ensuring that his laptop was sitting comfortably on his shoulder. “If you want to go just don’t stand there.” There couldn’t be too much harm in letting the blonde follow him out. Soma was keeping his distance from Nevio anyway, so if he did something that would result in a cameo in an episode of Cops he could just pretend that he had no clue who the man was and be on his merry way. He didn’t even have to pretend, all he knew was Soma’s name and that he had an aunt who was better suited to be a decorator at a children’s hospital. Nevio didn’t wait for Soma to respond or make a move. He moved back down the hall, clutching his computer bag as he made his way to the elevator and pressed the down button. There was another person on the lift that came down for him, a very attractive woman that gave him a small smile and saved him repeated jabs to the lobby button by pressing it for him. He didn’t smile back but she didn’t seem to care, eyes fixed on the red numbers depicting their floor like Nevio’s were. “It was nice to meet you.” She was the first one out of the machinery when it reached the lobby and the polite phrase she uttered on the way out nearly got Nevio stuck on another ride on the elevator, forced to make a quick dash through closing doors that didn’t respond to his presence between them. From the doorman, that woman and his new roommate Nevio concluded he was in an apartment made especially for crazy people. It wouldn’t have surprised him in the least if his parents sent him away to a special community. Shaking his head Nevio shuffled to the front door, giving the doorman another bark before moving down the sidewalk. |

Soma brightened like a particularly eager bonfire when Nevio said that if he wanted to come he could. It presented a conflicted view of the other man but Soma was determined. He couldn't get a handle on his personality as easy as other people's, but that made it all the more challenging and Soma did enjoy a good challenge. Where would he be without one? Probably like Jeremy in some way, if his mother's complaints were to be believed. Soma straightened the collar of his jacket and pulled the door to his room firmly shut behind him as he moved to follow Nevio out at a distance. He waited until the man was out the door for ten counts before he left the room as well and then the agent locked it with ease before he turned his eyes to the fleeing figure of Nevio's back as he was near the elevator. That wouldn't do. All distance restrictions would be violated if they went on the same elevator. There were only two so he didn't want to wait for the other. Soma glanced to the right to see the telltale stairwell. The young man opened the door and jumped over the railing leading directly down to the flight below. He only lingered long enough for his boot laces to move with the impact before the young man grabbed the railing and swiftly, three by three, ran down the steps. He wasn't even out of breath when he reached the bottom and he'd barely made a sound with the exception of the initial contact with the pavement from his larger leap. From his mental imagining of the building's layout he should be a few paces from the elevators, behind some fake potted plants since most building persons seemed to find the thought of stairs quite repulsive unless there was an emergency. Soma cracked the door open and watched as his roommate exited the elevator after a young woman and made his way toward the entrance. Soma timed his exit from the stairwell so perfectly and with so effortless a motion that the janitor exiting the public restrooms a few doors away nearly wet himself as Soma quite literally seemed to appear out of thin air. The young man was too intent on following his target to pay the other man any mind. He brushed past the few people lagging around in the lobby and pushed the doors open before the doorman could even get to them. But now what? He didn't own a car and he couldn't keep up proper distance restrictions in a cab. He bit his lip and glanced around hoping to spot Nevio for some sort of solution. |

Nevio didn’t have a car. He didn’t trust himself enough behind the wheel. Either he took a bus or he walked. More often than not he adhered to the latter. His legs got him where he wanted to go just as efficiently as a car and he could avoid traffic and suicidal maniacs that turned the highway into a racetrack or a residential road. The part of town he was in was very new to the computer geek but he didn’t mind feeling his way around. He stood in front of the building and turned in both directions, deciding to go left since the crowd look far less dense than the group of people coming from the other way. At first he found himself stuck in a sea of apartment buildings and little corner stores that had nothing of substance in them, forcing him to sit on a bench and guess at where he was going to go next. He started working on his new puzzle, looking around and assuming where a logical person might want to stick a grocery store. He was just pushing the idea that someone needed to use some of the lobby space in his new building to house a convenience store when a phone started ringing. Nevio ignored it at first, and why wouldn’t he, he didn’t own a cell phone. However there was no one sitting on or standing next to that bench he was resting on and the ring didn’t seem to fade away into the crowd. It started ringing again and Nevio checked out his laptop bag, searching random pockets until he found a little blue device with the words ‘Mother Dearest’ flashing on a black screen on the front. The tech man rolled his eyes, pressing and tapping the green phone. “You got me a cell phone?” “Me and Daddy wanted to make sure we wouldn’t lose you again.” A voice like ice on butter covered silk purred through the phone to Nevio, making the man press the palm of his hand against his forehead and sigh deeply. “Are you calling me while you’re in a scene?” “No honey. I promised I wouldn’t do that to you again after the last time. I also promised Marco. You still haven’t sent that apology letter for ripping off his mustache.” The woman continued on and Nevio got comfortable on the city bench. “I thought that absurd thing was fake. If you’re not filming then why are you using that voice?” “…I just finished a scene.” Nevio groaned. “That’s not the point. The point is me and your father would like to know where our son is before his face shows up on milk cartons. The cell phone is perfect. We’ll pay for it, all you have to do is answer.” “Mom, I left the first time for a reason. I’m also not 13. You can’t expect to keep tabs on me.” Nevio didn’t want to have the ‘why did you leave before you turned 40’ fight with his mother again, it always ended in a yelling match and usually his mother flashing him so she could get the last word in. Since they were on the phone flashing would turn into some lewd moan he would hang up the phone on. “Really, I hear the music, are you calling me on set?” “Honey, Marco is shooting his scene right now, I promise. Here, you can talk to him while he’s getting fluffed so you can apologize for that other thing.” Nevio hung up the phone and tossed it back into his bag, rubbing his cheek. Living with Soma was suddenly looking much more appealing. |

Soma ran out toward the street, hoping to perhaps see of his roommie was waiting at the large sign on the other end with a little lighted person in focus, but it was currently flashing orange and he wasn't sure what that meant, so he floored it across the street just as a few cars slammed on the breaks as they clearly thought he was suicidal. He arrived at the other end just as the flashing person was gone and replaced by an obnoxious, red hand. He pressed his face up close to the sign only to see it was a series of little lights. So it couldn't be a beacon, it looked too normal for that. So where was Nevio then? He immediately regretted not wearing his tall boots as his current ones only gave him a two-inch lift and in crowds that didn't amount to much. He sighed and tried to think of good identifiers to assist in his search for Nevio. Soma leaned against the traffic sign just as a couple arrived to try and punch the button for the crosswalk. Sadly, the man's huffs went unnoticed as Soma had his eyes closed in contemplation. He immediately conjured up the image of Nevio with his hand lingering on the doorknob to their apartment. He'd hit it eight times before leaving which meant he'd lingered long enough for Soma to get a clear image to work with. The young man studied the snapshot in his mind's eye and noted again the amount of threads in the other man's sleeve but that would be difficult to spot from far and in motion. There was the hair, dark, the general figure, but...yes, that was it! Soma grinned to himself as he opened his eyes and took off toward the street. He had an old bag swung over his shoulder that held his computer. It was great foresight, really, for Nevio to take the machine along with him. He must have inherently sensed that Soma and computers didn't get along too well and thus decided to remove the object of difficulty from his path entirely. He was good, maybe on par with Rodriguez to know so much about his roommate in so little time. As Soma swiftly passed through the crowd, barely touching them except to gently push someone aside to keep his path clear, he took in the few bags he saw men carrying as swiftly as he was in motion. None of them were roughly the same size or shape as Nevio's and even the ones that were were in hand not over one's shoulder. Soma eventually came to a stop when he thought he saw it, from afar. The agent found that he'd wandered into a somewhat secluded area, in front of an apartment building with its own mini playground. He hid behind the closest tree and peeked out at the man sitting on a nearby bench. It was Nevio alright. The hair and handsomeness were a good indicator. Soma wanted to eventually develop a personal good-looks ranking system to better keep track of people (It would be a 1-5 system including 'good looking' (people who others would consider not good looking), 'great looking' (normal people), 'Quite great looking' (generally good looking people), 'Beautiful' (beautiful people), and 'impossible' (evil or impossibly good looking). But he'd seen Nevio so recently that he remembered his face a little more easily than others. Soma watched as he spoke on a small phone that he'd fished out of the pocket of his computer bag. He was far behind Nevio and slightly to the side so he couldn't properly hear the conversation due to urban noise, and he couldn't even see the other man's face since he'd shifted to watch him without fear of being detected. But what to do now. It was rude to interfere in the middle of someone's phone call, yet he wanted to alert the other man to his presence before he moved on so they could stick together without Soma having to track him. He needed to keep track of Nevio, especially now since he hadn't paid any attention to the path he took to get here, he was so focused on finding his new roommate. Soma saw his chance when the other man pulled the phone quickly away from his ear like it had stung him. Soma emerged from the tree, ran noiselessly up to the proper distance, and waved his arm at the other man as he spoke. "I'm glad I found you so soon, Nevio. I didn't know that you didn't have a car of your own either, but I guess it's something we have in common, which is quite exciting if I do say so myself." Soma had several license equivalents but no technical license for half the things he'd driven in his life, and the most mundane, a car, was actually the vehicle he'd had the least amount of practice driving so his parents expressly forbid him from ever driving without someone else there (he also had no knowledge of traffic regulations so what they did was really a public service). "Did you find a store?" He asked. |

Nevio was slowly contemplating whether or not he should take his new shiny cell phone back out and throw it across the street at some man that was eyeing him through the cars hovering by on the road when he heard Soma’s voice. He jumped visibly on the bench, moving a few inches away from the source of the voice before turning his line of sight in that direction. There was no humanly way that Soma got down from their apartment fast enough to be able to tail him, so how was he found? Did the blonde really just guess to take all of the turns that the techie did or was he leaving a trail of bread crumbs that he didn’t know about? He scanned the ground to be sure, no food bits or missing hair that would have led to the bus bench. In a pretty paranoid thought he searched the crowd for familiar faces that might have pointed Soma in his direction, but he didn’t find any of those either. The computer genius was left to believe that the blonde was just blessed with a lot of luck and was able to…feel Nevio out somehow. He wasn’t angry by it, he told the man he could come, he was just surprised. Pressing his hands to his knees Nevio got to his feet. “More of an inconvenience I would think.” He replied to his roommate, moving back in the direction that he was originally going. The puzzle he formed earlier was still vivid in his mind, quietly sculpting a piece with a grocery store painted on it and trying to work it into the mix. He stopped quite a bit short of his roommate, looking to the other side of the street as he thought of another possible location of the place he was seeking like a haven. “Nah, not yet. This is my first time in the city.” Nevio confessed, explaining his cluelessness fully so Soma would know that he wasn’t the one that should be in charge of venturing out in the world if they started dividing apartment duties between them like college dorm mates. “I’m just guessing at where it may be. All cities are pretty much the same if you really look at it.” He pushed his hands through his hair and started walking once again. “Though with the way you found me you should be able to find a store pretty easily yourself.” |

Soma saw the shocked look on Nevio's face when the other man turned around and he wondered if he'd been successful in sneaking up on the other man after all. Maybe he just wasn't at the optimal observant condition due to the noise in the city. He'd been catching people by surprise his entire life, but Soma never thought it was due to the benefits he reaped from years and years of intensive training, he just thought that there was some odd other reason why he was virtually without notice until he wanted to be. Of course, in the middle of a job he could attribute it to his skill but then he was really trying. But while Nevio wasn't jumping with joy at seeing him, he seemed overall alright with Soma's sudden presence. He smiled at the thought of them growing closer, emotionally since he was taking care to stay as far away from Nevio as he'd promised. The other man hadn't been into the city before? Soma cocked his head back and rubbed at his hair with the palm of his hand before he glanced up at the nearby apartment building, almost expecting it to be a grocery store simply because he was now thinking of it. "I've been in the city a few times but I've never done much walking around..." He trailed off as Nevio's other words hit him. What if he did try and locate the store the same way he'd found his rommate? That might actually work. Soma turned his gaze to the crowd around them, going quickly past the open park-ish area as there wasn't anything of interest to busy lives in the way of a jungle gym and park bench. Most of the people had business paraphernalia : briefcases, bags, purses, but Soma eventually saw a common pattern of cloth shopping bags, but they were moving too quickly for him to read the name of a store. He eventually stopped a young mom with three empty bags over an arm and a kid tightly clutched in each manicured hand. She appeared to be talking to herself from afar, but when Soma neared her location she looked up and he caught the glint of a black additive on her ear. One of those fancy phones, apparently. Her eyes flashed with the natural wariness of a busy mom at his approach but after taking him in she visibly calmed down a bit, though her jaw was rather tense. "Excuse me, miss, may I ask a question?" Soma asked politely, stepping closer to her to make up for the noise. Despite his unusual closeness, the woman didn't seem too put off. "Uh...I'll have to call you later, Diane, there's some...guy here who wants to ask me something," the woman said, and she released the taller of the children and hit something quickly in her pocket before her hand had reclaimed its original target before the child could inevitably wander toward oncoming traffic. "Yes? You're not in any trouble, are you?" she asked. "No. Well, nothing major. We're just looking for a grocery store and we're both pretty new to the area. Would you please kindly point us in the right direction?" Soma queried politely, clasping his hands in front of him. He slowly blinked up at the lady and gave her a pathetic, puppy look that immediately made the busy mom's heart patter. "O...oh, of course. It's not a problem. This area can get pretty confusing at midday. Why don't you just follow us there? We need to pick some things up for snack and dinner." Soma brightened and flashed a victorious smile back at Nevio. He extended his joyous expression to include the smaller, child, a little girl who was staring up at him with large, curious eyes. "Do you need a hand?" He asked. The woman shifted, clearly intending to give him bags, but the girl was out of her grip in an instant and before "MADISON" could fully leave her lips, the pigtailed girl had fixed her little fingers securely over Soma's own and she gave her mother a determined look. "I wanna walk wif him," she said. "Uuuh..." "It's alright, I don't mind. I still remember when my sister was her age," Soma supplied before he fixed his second hand over her other one and lifted the girl easily for half a second before putting her back down. He appeared rather lean, but Soma was actually quite a bit stronger than he looked, likely from generations of warrior breeding. |

Nevio wasn’t at all serious about Soma finding them a store to shop at but he couldn’t stop the blonde from jumping into action. That was when he completed the mystery of his roommate. He was raised by a family of golden retrievers. It was a perfect explanation. He was blonde, pathetically eager and happy over the smallest things and was trained to track down people and food stuffs. Oh yeah, he was also very idiotic. Nevio wasn’t much of an animal lover. Maybe that was a sign that he wouldn’t enjoy the company of his roommate all that much in the days that were going to follow. He hung back while Soma hailed some random woman with a little girl down. Nevio didn’t expect her to actually stop for him. He had a mother for a while and he knew that when she was out with her in his younger days that she would pretty much attack any man that dared to get too close to her blue eyed constantly grumpy baby. Granted he didn’t expect every child owning woman on the street to have an ice pick stashed in their purse and ready to go but a shoe would accomplish the same thing. No one shooed away dogs though. When Soma smiled back at him he raised an eyebrow and blinked slowly. Since he wasn’t being beaten with a purse and police weren’t being demanded Nevio assumed that she accepted the help that his roommate asked for. He stepped forward a bit, warily turning his eyes to the kid that the woman had along with her. Thankfully she seemed to be enamored with the two legged canine and had a radar small enough for Nevio to get past. “I guess this is one way to find the place.” He muttered, hand going to his laptop bag as he eyed the woman Soma spoke to. He didn’t think that she was capable of stealing the old thing but he wanted to take it out while he had to be in her presence, just so he wouldn’t get uncomfortable. Nevio also looked over at the kid that Soma was holding, just in case she decided to shift the focus on her radar and attack him with her mutant fingers. |
