((This is another RP that Dreamy and I had on another site we decided to bring over. Click here for the beginnings of it: Pas De Deux ))

Nadia went through the class the way that she usually did...unnoticed and over-looked. By the other students, anyway. Mrs. Cole would compliment her every now and then, but she did the same for everyone, and ultimately, she was just delegated to a position of helping some of the newer students. It was a task she didn't mind at all, as although she was quiet, she was never judging or made jokes. The students she helped usually caught on quickly and thanked her with a smile, and forgot her almost the minute that she walked away.

She didn't know what it was, but why couldn't she make friends? She never seemed to stick in the minds of anyone but the people who despised her...like Julia. Oh well...what could she do?

When class was over and they were given their CDs and DVDs, Nadia was slow to pack up. She had to wait, and pray, for her mother to remember and come to pick her up. And she wasn't going to burden Mrs. Cole with driving her home again, not if she was feeling under the weather...As such, she was just putting on her jacket to wait outside, when Julia walked over to her, surprisingly without insult or degrading look.

Listening to the girl's question, she smiled faintly and nodded. Maybe she would at least have a chance to repair her reputation with Julia with this assignment.

"Sure...I'm here until my mother comes to pick me up anyway."

Her tone was soft and quiet, as usual. But she took off her jacket. It would be better to wait in here than outside anyway...

“Good.” Julia turned away from Nadia as soon as she got a positive reply, tucking the DVD under her arm and walking back towards their longtime instructor who was straightening up on the other side of the room. After a quick inquiry about the older woman’s plans after class and if the room was going to be in use the dancer got permission to use the TV and the area for as long as necessary, at least until Mrs. Cole had to go home for the evening. Figuring that they had at least enough time to give the DVD a few looks over since she had another class to teach elsewhere in the studio the girl thanked her teacher and waited until she was out of the room before dragging the trolley with the TV setting sitting on it from the corner.

“Come on. I’m not bringing this to you.” Stopping just a few feet from the wall that the TV was plugged into Julia reached for the DVD of the pad de deux that she didn’t want, falling back onto the floor before slipping it into the player.

That morning Julia planned to be home right about then, happily telling her parents that she finally got a solo to perform and bragging about what she had to do and how much faith Mrs. Cole had in her to take the variation to new heights. Then her mother would cook her favorite dinner while her father called all of their relatives and warned them to mark the date of her performance on their calendar so they wouldn’t miss it. It was suppose to be glorious.

Instead she was alone in a room with the dancer that she envied and hated the most so they could get started on a duo because she ‘just wasn’t ready’ to perform a solo when she’d been working for years. It was funny how things worked out in life. Julia tried to not let herself get too depressed about it. If she really wanted the solo then she could just drop Nadia when it was time for a jump.

“How much do you weigh?” Flicking her unnaturally colored bangs from her eyes as she laughed mentally Julia turned to her partner. “I need to know if I should visit the gym more often for these lifts and jumps so we don’t get into an accident.”

Nadia hesitated, wanting to follow after Julia s she walked over to their instructor, but ultimately doing as she usually did. She chickened out, and just stood by waiting for her new partner to come back. So, there she stood, probably looking like an idiot, waiting for Julia to come back over after she had from Mrs. Cole whatever she needed...only to be called over to the TV as Julia refused to bring it to her.

"Oh, right, sorry..." she muttered out, quickly making her way over to the TV. Sitting down on the floor next to Julia, keeping careful attention on the distance between them, and watching as the DVD started up. She should have known that things would probably take a bit to calm down, for her to get an actual chance to talk to Julia and maybe fix the resentment the other girl had for her.

Thinking about that as she was, though, she almost didn't catch the question about her weight.

"Huh? Oh, um...One-hundred pounds." she said guiltily. She was too heavy, in her mother's mind, and had recently been started on a diet so strict that Muslims during Ramadan had to eat more that she would be for a long time. There was no middle ground with her mother. The woman either micro-managed her life so she would fit her picture of the ideal dancer, or, she completely and absolutely forgot that she even existed for however long she enjoyed the latest boyfriend.

"D-Don't worry, I'll l-loose some weight..." she added, even if she didn't look like she really had any weight she could spare to loose.

Julia’s eyes went beady in an instant when that number spilled from Nadia’s mouth. “What?” Her voice barely made it over the sound of the TV, only able to get out that one syllable for the moment. 100 pounds! They were around the age, a girl in their age group should weigh as much as a middle school girl. Something had to be wrong with her. If Julia thought that she was struck into silence the words that the other ballerina dared to utter to the other dancer was enough to slap her back into her senses.

“LOSE WEIGHT!? YOU HAVE LEFT NOTHING TO LOSE!” She barked out without thinking about her angry tone, furrowing her eyebrows and snapping her head to face the other girl sitting next to her. “1 pound more and we might as well put the dance off until Halloween because it’s the only way dancing with a skeleton would make a cow lick of sense!” Nadia really managed to hit another one of her bad nerves, one she successfully avoided by keeping quiet when she was around Julia. To be fair to her it was the other that asked the question but to defend her actions the blonde really shouldn’t have acted like she could stand to use a few pounds, lest her overbearing size along with gravity caused Julia’s arms to break during their first catch.

The woman sighed heavy, turning back to the TV and pressing the reverse button on the DVD player a few times so they could watch those parts they missed while Nadia was making her way over and confessing her size. “I can pick you up just fine.” Julia said in a calmer voice, sticking her hands on the wooden floor behind her and leaning back on them lightly. “Fuck, if you let go and gain 10 pounds before the rehearsal I would be able to pick you up just fine.”

Though her dislike of Nadia was very real she wasn’t picking on her or being mean about her weight. She was just fussing. It didn’t seem healthy to weight that much, even with their active lifestyle. Well, the morbid bright side was that she wouldn’t have to spend any more time than usual with the weights than she usually did. The even darker downside was that she wouldn’t be accidentally dropping the girl and blaming it on her muscles any time soon. “Really, just try not to lose any weight until we’re done.” Julia concluded before quietly turning her attention back to the TV and the variation she had to memorize.

Nadia jumped, stunned when Julia just exploded at her. That was far from the reaction she had expected, what with the mentality that her mother had forced into her head. She was borderline underweight and still stuck on a diet. But, such was her life. She had to do something to make her mother notice her, to be proud of her...

If doing that meant she had to be a skeleton that had to dance with a girl that hated her for some reason, well, she would do it.

She didn't say anything as the other girl berated her for what she had said, even if she had simply answered a question she had been asked. It wasn't until Julia told her not to lose any more weight that she spoke up. Her knees were pulled up to her chest, her arms wrapped around them with her chin on her knees, looking at the ground.

"S-Sorry..." she muttered out, before looking back at the TV, not wanting to get yelled at again. Maybe if she could learn this routine quickly, Julia wouldn't hate her so much anymore. Then, maybe she could get her first friend here...

Or not. That was a lot more likely...

Julia stretched out on the wooden floor of the dance studio, resting on her elbows as she watched the dancers on the TV screen perform their variation. It was customary for students to watch their DVDs at least 3 times before doing anything else with their piece so when applause from the past hit her ears she wordlessly paused the video so she could crawl to her duffle bag and grab a pen and some paper. Upon her return the performance was kicked off from the beginning again so she could take notes on the whole thing before focusing solely on the part she was supposed to play during the 3rd repeat.

The male part. That was making her seethe. Mrs. Cole had to be secretly trying to tell her something by assigning the part. Did she look like a man…did she smell like a man? She thought her first shower in the morning was enough but she self consciously made a note to take another shower between work and going to her classes from then on—

She stopped her obsessing over her daily hygiene when she heard that faded applause once again. Julia slowly got onto her feet, stretching her body upwards and glancing at the clock that informed her that if she wanted to catch the last bust home she would have to start walking at that moment. “We can talk about setting up practice times tomorrow,” she sighed out as she moved to her stuff, thoughts of getting home so she could really rest her poor legs making her move just a bit quicker.

As she gathered her things and stuffed them back into her bag Julia briefly remembered how she got to be with Nadia in the studio when practically everyone was elsewhere, ignoring their newfound partnership of course. “Is your ride home coming soon?” As much as she didn’t like Nadia the woman that was her didn’t want to leave another woman almost by herself, especially with the state of the neighborhood next to the dance school.

When she saw Julia go to her duffel bag and pull out a pen and some paper to write on, Nadia frowned. She was probably going to be yelled at again for not taking notes...What many of the other students failed to accept was the memory that the girl had. If she saw or heard something once it just stuck in her head. With a bit of effort and concentration she could memorize a whole routine after watching it a few times. Of course, just because she had it memorized didn't mean that she could just step up then and preform it.

Maybe she had just better play it safe. Moving to her own bag as Julia started coming bag, she dug around in it, before finding one of her school notebook and a pencil. She could just write in the back of her notebook and tear the pages out later.

So she sat there, silently, watching the routine for the second and third time, forcing herself to spot areas that she could actually write something down for. She didn't have much, though, by the time Julia started packing up. Well, um...Okay then...

Nadia never expected Julia to ask if she had a ride coming, though. Looking at the clock, she frowned. To be honest her mother should have been here back when class originally got out, when most of the other left. Ignoring the sinking feeling in her stomach, though, that this was going to be another night spent waiting for her mother, she forced a weak smile and looked back at her partner.

"Oh, um...Yeah, my mother should be here any minute now..." At least it wasn't raining or snowing out, she thought to herself, hoping that she would only be standing out there for another hour or so at the most. Her mother hadn't said she had any dates or parties that night...Unless, she had showed up on time, and when she hadn't been out there, she just drove off...That was a possibility.

And with no cellphone, it was a possibility that meant she would be here all night...

“Okay then.” Julie took Nadia’s words and assumed that she was going to do something like call her mom or stick her head outside to see if there was a chance that she was already out there waiting for her. She sighed and looked at the clock, quickly deciding that changing her clothes while the other girl figured out her ride situation would be in her best benefit. It was looking like she was going to have to run to catch her bus and the last thing she wanted to do was fall and destroy her good pair of tights.

Without a word she left the room and her bag so he could walk down the dim halls of the studio, a pair of sweatpants clutched in one hand and her cell phone in the other. Mrs. Cole’s class was usually the group that hung around the building the latest so it wasn’t much of a surprise that the place was almost empty. On the way to the bathroom she passed by just 2 janitors and a guy that she knew from the neighborhood. By the time she reemerged they were gone but another familiar place replaced them all.

“Mr. Young.” The colorfully clad girl greeted the old danseur that owned the studio with a wave and a big smile. It was hardly a surprise to see him since he tended to stay in the building until it was time to lock up. He flashed a wrinkle smile at her before lifting up an arm, bright grey eyes glancing towards his watch. “We were just assigned some new dances, Mrs. Cole said it would be okay for me and my partner to stay and watch in our studio room,” Julie answered the man’s question before it had a chance to be asked. “We’re waiting on rides now.”

“That’s perfectly fine, but I’m getting ready to lock up Mademoiselle,” Mr. Young confessed, his grey eyebrows almost knitting together as he looked away from his watch and at her. “How much longer--”

“I’m walking to catch a bus and their ride should be here in a heartbeat.” Mr. Young accepted her half lie with a nod and told her to hurry along before continuing up the hall towards his office. The ballerina shuffled quickly back to Mrs. Cole’s room, diving towards her bag and stuffing her tights inside of it.

“Mr. Young says he’s locking up so we need to get out. Is your ride new to this scheduled or something, where are they?” Julie asked as he tugged her yellow hoodie over her head and threw her bag over her shoulder.

Nadia just watched Julie as she left, before sighing and shaking her head. What had she been thinking, when she thought this would be her chance to fix whatever problem her partner had with her? It was obvious that she simply wasn't able to say anything right. Maybe she should just fake a twisted ankle or something, and get Mrs. Cole to give Julie a new partner. Then again, her mother would see right through any lie, and then she would be in trouble...Big trouble. Her mother didn't like her messing around with the "Grand Ballerina Future" she saw for her.

The thought that maybe she didn't want to dance for the rest of her life was a forbidden and taboo one, though.

When Julie returned, Nadia was just zipped up her coat. Her micro-managing mother made sure she showed up already in her practice clothes, carrying her shoes with her to change into inside. She had already changed shoes while Julie was gone. When Julie started to question her ride, though, the girl just looked at the ground, hunching her shoulders a bit.

"S-She'll be here..." was all she could mutter out. "I'll just wait outside if Mr. Young is locking up..." It wouldn't be the first time her mother kept her waiting. She usually showed up. Chances are she was just...stuck in traffic, or her date was keeping her just a bit longer.

"Um...H-Have a good night, J-Julie..."
