Role-playing Sample:

It was never silent in his workshop.

There was always a subtle riot of sound; minute movements and flutters, Aurin singing to himself in the other room, and the constant and much-loved ticking of a thousand clockwork mechanisms. The sound of his art and his trade, and Asher had become so accustomed to the sound over the years that he wasn't sure he'd be able to work in true silence any more without going mad.

Gnawing his lip absently, he carefully tightened the last screw into place, sitting back slightly and surveying his work with a critical eye. It was a butterfly-- not his first, but unique, and they were popular with well-bred ladies. This one had wings of thin stained glass in shades of red and gold, with tiny, intricate bronze gears set into the wrought iron body. Carefully testing each point of articulation and each moving part, Asher fiddled with the clockwork butterfly until he was satisfied that it would move just as a real one once given the breath of life.

Cradling the butterfly in his palm, Asher imparted a small tendril of magic to it to ensure buoyancy despite the heavy materials. That done, all that was left was the issue of animation. In his mind's eye, Asher envisioned a living version of the butterfly held in his hands; fluttering movement, feather-light touch and --he decided with a faint smile-- an affinity for blondes. Image firmly in place, Asher reached within and drew out a tiny spark of life windandskyandself and passed it to the still creation in his hands.

The moment of transition, when a creation went from inanimate to alive was always exhilarating, and this was no exception. One moment the butterfly and nothing but a finely crafted hunk of glass and metal, and then the next it shook its wings, and Asher watched in delight as it took flight, fluttering around his head once before winging off to the far corner of his workshop and settling on the potted plant that rested there.

The joy of creation, of breathing life into that which was lifeless, was something that few ever experienced. It was art and science and a sort of indefinable beauty all rolled into one, and it was something that Asher would not trade if he was offered all the world in return.

I hope that if this was an RP, it would be pre-plotted. Because I can’t see any way someone could just pick up and introduce their character with the way this ended. Other than that… It’s fine for me.

Welcome to HV, hun.
