Kelly 'Kel' Richardson It had been a surprise for the rest of his team when they learned that one of their running backs, Kel, was dating a girl other than a cheer leader. Sure, they admitted there were other hot girls in the school besides the cheerleading squad, but why bother with those girls? The cheer leaders were easy catches, easy on the eyes and drooling all over the lot of them in their spandex and shoulder pads. Maybe Kel was just odd, since he actually wanted a girlfriend he knew and got along with. He'd had many advances from the various ditsy girls on their school's cheer squad. But they all seemed about a deep as a puddle. But Zoey was something else. Of course the team had been pretty content when he informed them that she did have a 'bangin' body'. Which, well... he only could assume. Her figure through her clothes seemed appealing enough. He figured they'd get to shedding their clothes when the time was right. Sooner, later, whenever. He found himself not in that much of a rush. Seriously, he didn't much understand why all the guys on his team seemed to have some deep seeded need to fuck a girl or two asap. He felt no such urge when it came to any of the girls around him. Maybe he was just old fashioned. But he didn't dare bring that up with his friends. Not unless he wanted to be stared at for being out of the norm. That was how popularity worked though, he'd figured out long ago. It was about being just like everyone else in your popular clique. Wear the same clothes, style your hair in the same way, talk about T&A, have a hot girlfriend, snap wet towels on any and all your team mates around in the locker room shower, and of course take part in typical masculine buffoonery. Anything from burping contests to wrestling in the mud in the football field on rainy days. Kelly didn't mind all those things. He could stand them, and some of them came to him pretty damn naturally. And the parts that didn't... well he just played along for those parts. There might not have been quite so many raises brows over the fact he was dating Zoey if not for the fact that her brother had a peculiar reputation. Alexander was his name. And he was their class' epitome of 'nerd'. He seemed to represent down to a T everything that the football team did not. And it was no big secret that the guys tended to shove Alex and any of his other nerd friends and acquaintances around. They were the alpha, and those boys were the... not alphas. And the team would gladly continue to rub this in their faces till the day they finally graduated. Kelly couldn't exactly voice the fact he was not a nerd hater like the rest of the crew. He'd be shunned if he did. Hah, ironic how the cliques of their high school could work in such a strange animalistic manner. This was the 21st century, and yet teenagers could act so dumb. Despite this, Kelly had no choice sometimes, except to join in with the teasing and taunting. But he tried his best to avoid it at all costs when he could... It was after school, and Kelly and the rest of the team were running drills up and down the field. Running into the large padded tackle trainers, practicing running at incredible speed, place kicking and of course passing and catching flawlessly. He was clad in the typical white and green colors of their high school, Pine Glen. A white pair of spandex leggings covered his lower body, exposing his fit backside and thighs. A dark green jersey was over top his shoulder pads and the white spandex shirt beneath. And of course the white and green football helmet completed the costume of his team. The blond was in the midst of putting in his mouth guard when he stole a glance up to the bleachers. He was hoping beyond hope to find Zoey sitting up there watching him. Maybe she'd be coming a bit later. He had a faint suspicion her brother was likely holding her up from coming to watch him during practice. Although he held nothing personal against Alexander, he knew the other guy hated him, simply because of the fact he was a 'jock' and he was dating his sister... ((Hope that's an okay start ^^; )) |

((It's a fantastic start. <3)) Alexander 'Zander' and Zoey 'Zo' LeClerc Despite Kelly's wishes and hopes, Zoey was not, in fact, in the bleachers, watching him adoringly. She was in the gym with her volleyball team; running drills, spiking balls, and doing laps around the court. She wore the typical uniform of green shorts and a plain white tank top, and she blended in with the rest of the girls in the gym. Of course, her brother, who was sitting in the bleachers, could pick her out easily enough, and his eyes often followed her movements around the gym. He admired the graceful way she moved, and wished that he had even an iota of her talent and insane natural athleticism. He offered her a slight grin - the corner of his lips barely inched upward - when she sent a bouncy wave his way, though he ducked his head and flushed furiously when she elbowed the girl next to her to point him out. He could just imagine their whispered conversation based upon the expressions of the two girls' faces. "Look, there's my brother, Zander." "He's you're brother?" "Yeah. Does that surprise you?" "Well.... yes. He's such a nerd. And you're so..... not." By the end of only a few short moments, Zo had moved away from the girl, a frown on her pretty face and an agitated element in her usually smooth stride. It was always the same; people who didn't already know that they were fraternal twins tended to express shock, disbelief, and wonderment that someone as outgoing, popular, and athletic as Zoey could have a brother who was as scrawny, nerdy, and quiet as Zander. And Zo tended to be protective of her younger brother - even if the age gap was only about a minute and a half. She took her role of Big Sister very seriously, and woe betide anyone who belittled Zander in front of her. Sometimes, he was grateful for her protective nature, but other times, like now, he wished she would just let it go and accept the fact that people just didn't like him and open up to him the way they did with her. Shaking his head and pushing his spectacles further up onto his nose, Zander went back to reading his book. He'd already finished his homework, and it lay safely tucked within his backpack, neatly filed away in the appropriate folder for each class. He jumped a bit, startled, when Zoey dropped down onto the bleachers beside him suddenly, and wrinkled his nose when she gave him a sweaty, one-armed hug. "Hey, little brother," she greeted affectionately. Reaching out, she deliberately ruffled his hair; an action that she knew he hated but she did anyway just for his reaction. Sure enough, she watched with a delighted grin as he meticulously patted the too-long strands back into place over his forehead, thus effectively shielding his rather pretty oak-leaf-green eyes. "Hey, yourself, big sister," he finally acknowledged, his eyes trained down on his book rather than up on her. "Practice over yet?" "No, not yet. Coach wants us to stay later and work on some more drills and technique since the homework load was light today. Can you do me a favor and go let Kel know that I won't be out for a while, and to go on home without me?" Zander jerked his head up at that, and stared wide-eyed at his sister for a moment before blinking owlishly behind his glasses. "Really?" he drawled sarcastically, jerking his head in such a manner as to have his bangs flipping slightly to the side and leaving his vision unencumbered. "You want me, a relatively defenseless, quiet nerd - who wears glasses, might I add? - to go, alone, into Jock Haven, for the dubious honor of letting your neanderthal boyfriend know that you're going to be late. Huh." This was all said with no expression on his face, his gaze blank as could be and his voice completely flat. Zoey bopped him in the back of his head for his trouble and gave him a fierce scowl. "It's not that bad, Zander. Just... go wait in the bleachers until their practice is over and they come out of the locker rooms. You should be able to catch Kelly by himself then." Turning quickly at a shout from her coach, Zoey nodded, held up one finger, and whipped back around to face her brother. "Just do it, Zander. Please? Nobody's going to hit you just for talking to him. I promise. I'll be home later." "You promised last time, too, and I still ended up with a black eye," Zander muttered, but he knew his sister hadn't heard him, as she was already sprinting off to go join her teammates on the volleyball courts. Even though it hadn't been Kelly who'd decked him - it had been one of his teammates/friends who'd thought it was funny to randomly hit people and watch their reaction - but he wasn't eager to repeat the experience any time soon. Shaking his head ruefully, the brunette stood and, after gently sliding his book down into his backpack where it wouldn't crumple or crinkle any papers, he slung the bag over his shoulder, tucked his hands into his pockets and his chin down onto his chest, and headed out of the gym. Kelly Richardson was one of the most popular and talented guys on the football team. It was made only worse by the fact that the jock knew he was good, and used that fact against everyone else who he didn't think measured up to his standards. And just because he was completely gorgeous, too, didn't excuse him for being such a dick all the time. Zander could appreciate a finely toned body and pretty face just as well as anyone else, but that didn't mean that the nice packaging made up for the shitty attitude. Not looking forward to the coming encounter at all, the bespectacled nerd did as Zoey had suggested and waited in the bleachers until he spotted the football players emerging from the locker rooms. Approaching them quickly, hoping to catch Kelly by himself, he muttered, "Zo'spracticeisrunninglateandshesaidyoushouldgohomewithouther." Considering his message to be delivered and not wanting to hang around any longer for fear of potentially having his face rearranged, Zander spun on his heel and headed in the opposite direction as quickly as his feet would carry him. |

All the way through practice, and still no Zoey. Kel couldn't help but sigh a bit at the fact his girlfriend hadn't shown up to watch him. Though he did know her volleyball practice was going on. But... He'd still expected her to show up at the end of her practice. Where was she? One of his team mates, a guy by the name of Casey, slapped him on the back. Jolting, Kel glanced over to Casey. "Quit worrying about where your girl is." he smirked knowingly. "Besides, you gotta wait at least another half an hour before getting in her pants anyway," he snorted as he headed for the locker room. Kel scowled faintly, as he followed after Casey and the rest of the team. He was about to open his mouth, tell them that was the last thing on his mind. But he quickly shut his yap. No... No that was not a good idea. Not for reputation's sake anyway. After cleaning up, taking a hot shower, and tugging on his grey t-shirt and a pair of baggy jeans and sneakers, Kel was soon heading out of the locker room. He had his backpack slung over his broad shoulder. It was in that moment that he spotted a familiar figure approaching. Not Zoey though, much to his disappointment. But her brother. What did he want...? Before Kel could even bother to ask, his friend Casey and another of the fellows by the name of Rich, got to him first. The two tall jocks looked down on the nerd with haughty smirks. "What're you doin' here, eh?" Rich snerked a bit. Kel inwardly scowled as they about cornered the brother of his girlfriend. Heading over, Kel slipped in between them. "I'll handle this," he mused quietly, giving his friends a playful smirk. Casey and Rich looked to the blond jock. They smirked back in response. They gave Zander a predatory look before they headed on. Kel sighed as they left, and he looked down to Zander. "... What was that?" he quirked a brow as Zander about barfed up the message without so much as a breath between his words. "I caught... Zo and practice," he mused as his arms folded across his broad chest. He tipped his head to the side then, as he looked the lanky nerd up and down silently. "How about you take a breath and repeat yourself, but this time with a lot less word vomit..." he added with a hint of a playful amused look in his hazel eyes. He hoped he wasn't coming off as too teasing. It wasn't like he was threatening to pound the other guy into the ground. Kel adjusted his posture then, as his weight went more to his right hip, causing it to jut to the side. In turn his right shoulder lifted and left shoulder dropped, as he got into a more comfortable standing position. His eyes remained poised on the glasses wearing fellow before him as he waited for him to gather up the nerve to speak again. He'd bumped into Zander a few times, spared him a wave or two whenever he saw him at Zo's house. Hell they even all ate dinner once, both the twins and their parents and Zander, for the sake of meeting their daughter's boyfriend. Yet it still didn't keep thinks from being a bit on the awkward side whenever he and Zander were by themselves. The jock lifted a hand then, and brushed some of his shaggy blond hair from his face, unintentionally looking naturally alluring in that movement of his hand and the sway of his hair. |

He'd thought he was in the clear, but then he heard Kelly speaking from behind him, and an involuntary wince passed over Zander's features before he could suppress it. Really, he'd known that his mumbled and garbled message likely wouldn't be understood, but he'd been in such a hurry to just be out of there, he couldn't help but spit it out the way he had. With a sigh, he turned back to face the jock, his face pointed toward the ground and his eyes trained on his shoes. His bangs fell forward to shield his gaze, just the way he preferred, but he glanced up through the thick strands to watch Kelly's face as he spoke. Surprise colored his gaze briefly as he thought he caught a hint of teasing from the blond, but he quickly disabused himself of that notion. He was a nerd; Kelly was a jock. There was no way that one of the upper echelon would ever be caught dead actually joking with a nobody like Zander. Still, his eyebrows drew into a slight frown at the suggestion that he repeat the message without so much word vomit, and the straight-A student in him couldn't help but respond. "Technically, that wasn't word vomit. I said what I needed to say plainly and with no frills. Word vomit is when someone uses a lot of unnecessary explanations or descriptions, often that have nothing whatsoever to do with the topic itself." As soon as he shut his mouth to stem the flow of words, Zander flushed clear up to the tips of his ears, and he shut his eyes briefly in mortification before lifting a hand to rub at the bridge of his nose. "That was word vomit. Ugh." Shaking his head, he muttered, "Sorry. English nerd. I couldn't help it." Lifting his gaze boldly - or, at least, boldly for him - he sighed once again, blinked hard, then finally yanked his glasses off and ran an agitated hand through his bangs to sweep them off to the side, thus unintentionally revealing how pretty a green his eyes were behind the concealing spectacles. "Look, Kelly. I don't want to be here any more than you want me here. I'm only here because Zoey sent me to tell you that her volleyball practice is running late tonight, and you should go ahead and leave without her." Then, his gaze was caught by how attractive Kelly looked, standing there in the parking lot with the sun shining down on him and highlighting his blond hair. The way he was standing only accentuated the musculature of his toned body, and Zander raked his gaze quickly over that body before averting his eyes and replacing his glasses lest the jock think he was actually being checked out. "Okay? Are we done?" the nerd asked quietly, desperate to be gone before he accidentally give something away that he really did not want revealed just then. "Can I go now? I have a lot of homework to do, and... uh..... I need to get home." |

The blond was silent as Zander took the moment to royally put on his nerd cap and educate him about what exactly word vomit was. He couldn't help but roll his eyes. It's reason's like that they tease you... his mind mumbled in the back of his skull. As he listened to the matter of fact tone and description that left the shorter guy's lips, his eyes lifted and couldn't help but take note of the way the other looked without his glasses on. Pretty green eyes. They seemed much brighter without the glass that they normally hid behind. As Zander finished up his little mini lesson, Kel simply smirked as the other recognized his own word vomit, as well as acknowledged his own nerdiness. "You said it, not me," he mused quietly, in relation to Zander's nerd status. His eyes lifted to watch Zander's. A faintly disappointed look came over his face, at the news that Zo was playing over time and he should just head on home. Sighing a bit, Kel gave an understanding nod. "Yeah... yeah okay," he mumbled. He'd been looking off to the side, pondering a bit. Wait for her or head on home as she suggested. Hm... It was then Zander made mention he had to get on home. Standing up straight again, a lopsided smile came to Kel's face as he quirked a dark blond brow. ".. Want a drive home?" he offered. "I pass you guys' house on the way home. If you're heading home I can give you a ride," he added, and shrugged a bit casually. Him and Zander may have been different breeds of student, but he was his girlfriend's brother. Best... try to be amiable right? It might have been a bit risky to his reputation to take a nerd home in his car. But he hoped the excuse of 'he's my sister's brother' would be good enough if anyone of importance happened to see them. While waiting for an answer, Kel had begun to fumble around in his pockets a bit, till he fished out his car keys. They jingled a bit in his grip. He then spared Zander a slow easy going smile. One had to admit the blond looked even more appealing when he smiled... |

"I said it because it's true," Zander tossed back, agitation leaving a flush on his cheeks that might also have had something to do with the attractive male standing in front of him. "I know I'm a nerd, Kelly. I enjoy reading and doing things that challenge my mind. I prize intelligence, integrity, and the ability to carry on a decent conversation above how large your biceps are, how many passes you can catch in a single game, and how fast you can run. All of that equals nerd to people like you. I get it, okay?" Defensiveness tightened the line of the bespectacled teen's shoulders, and he dropped his gaze to his shoes once again, the flush on his cheeks brightening to a near neon hue. "Blast. I'm sorry.... you didn't deserve that. You're better than your friends are. At least you haven't tried shoving me into a locker or pantsing me in the hallway. I don't know if that's because you're dating my sister, or because you're just not as much of a jerk as they are." Realizing what he'd said, Zander jerked his head up to stare at Kelly in dismay, then blinked wide eyes and tried to backpedal. "Not.... not that you're a jerk, per se, I just.... you aren't..... blast and damn!" Huffing out a breath, the nerd turned to go, shaking his head and hoping that he wasn't about to get a fist in his face for his audacity. "I'm going to leave now, before I shove my other foot in my mouth, too." However, the offer of a ride home had him stopping in his tracks and slowly turning to face Kelly once again, his expression one of disbelief. After a moment, he seemed to snap out of him, and he narrowed his eyes in contemplation. "A ride home? Me? Why would you....?" Then, as if he realized what was going on, he nodded his head once, slowly. "Ah. I get it. You're trying to be nice for Zoey's sake." Shaking his head now, Zander held up his hands, palms out, and backed away. "Look, I appreciate it, but you can't charm me the way you can just bat your eyes and charm all the empty-headed cheerleaders, okay? It's nice that you're trying to be decent to me for my sister's sake, but you're kind of weirding me out right now. You want to be nice? Tell your jock friends to quit trying to rearrange my face, and we'll call it good. Yeah?" Turning, he tossed over his shoulder, "Thanks anyway, though." |

Hm... Zander just didn't know when to shut up did he? Sure, Kel could take his own fair share of bad mouthing. Was used to it from rival football teams, from taunting friends, hell even from his old folks sometimes. Despite, he felt his throat tighten just a bit and his brows twitch in a hint of annoyance. His arms, which had opened up temporarily into a laid back gesture, were back across his chest. Defensive, that's what his body language said then. Yeah, Zander might have just talked himself out of a ride. Though the bookish teen hardly seemed all that interested anyway, or so he claimed. The blond couldn't help but feel his gut tighten at the use of charm. Such a word, in Kel's mind, denoted a hint of romantic inclinations. Something which no self respecting, heterosexual Jock even dared to ponder when it came to another guy, nerd or not. In fact even casually bringing up such a subject (less it be jeering and taunting over 'queerness') was downright popularity suicide. As the old saying went, a man could sleep with a hundred women, but it only takes one man to label him a fag. "No. I was simply being courteous." he huffed then. "Keep your homo charming fantasies to yourself. And be thankful my friends didn't hear you," he scowled, and stalked past. Well so much for the happy teen he'd been a few minutes ago. After Kel got to his car, he got it open, tossed in his bag, and stalked to the driver's side. He sat there in the seat, a moment or two, as his hands gripped to the wheel. Gods, why was he so angry? ... And what did he really expect? Jocks and nerds were like dogs and cats. It was still a kick in the teeth, that his attempts at being peaceful just burned up into ashes over a few blurted words from that nerd's mouth. Kel scowled at his reflection in the rearview mirror, till his eyes softened, and he leaned his head forward on the steering wheel. Already in hind sight he was feeling a bit like an ass for stalking off as he had. Seems being around his friends was ingraining more social behaviors than he'd once thought. Kel shook his head then and he sat back up, let out a heavy sigh, and buckled up. That evening, a little after dinner time, Zo's cellphone was soon going off. And it was any one's guess who was calling. The blond jock was sitting in the basement of his parent's house, on the comfy leather couch. Idly he was flipping through some channels on the television, till he came across something that appealed. Heh, hundreds of channel and so much shit to sift through... |

Zander was kicking himself before he even heard Kelly's parting shot, but when he did, he froze in the middle of taking a step forward so that his foot was raised in the air and he had to carefully lower it to the ground lest he tip over. All the blood drained from his face, leaving him pale and ashen compared to how flushed he'd been only moments earlier. The jock had said 'homo charming fantasies.' He couldn't possibly know, could he? Oh Gods, what had Zander said to him? What had he said?! Scrambling furiously to recall his last words to Kelly, the nerd stood where he was, in the middle of the parking lot, staring sightlessly forward as he brought their conversation to the forefront of his mind. He'd said that Kelly couldn't charm him like he did the cheerleaders. Oh Christ, he hadn't meant it the way it had sounded. He'd only meant that he couldn't be lulled into security by a bright smile and a few happy words. But obviously Kelly had interpreted something much different than Zander's intended meaning. Feeling sick to his stomach at the implication of what had been said to him, the bespectacled teen began the walk home, unaware of anything but the thoughts churning through his mind. He hoped that Kelly had only been speaking out of anger and had dredged up the most insulting thing he could think of; rather than having the jock learn his secret and actually accuse him of being.... but no. It was only one time that he'd even let anything slip; and it was such a small slip. Surely Kelly couldn't know that his girlfriend's brother had a crush on him..... Later that night, Zoey was in her room doing her homework after dinner, perplexed as to why Zander hadn't come in to pester her and tell her she was doing everything wrong, when her phone rang. She grinned at the caller i.d. display, then eagerly accepted the call and pressed the phone to her ear. "Kelly? Hey, handsome, I missed you today after practice. Sorry about that, but coach wanted us to stay later to run some drills." She paused for a moment to scribble down an answer on her math homework, twirled a piece a hair around her finger absently, and turned her gaze toward the wall that separated her room from Zander's. "Hey, how was Zander earlier today when you talked to him? Did he seem okay?" |

Kelly's face brightened when the familiar girl's voice echoed over the phone. And a smile upturned the corners of his mouth at the pet name. And the fact she used his first name. No one was allowed to use his first name. Well girls could get away with it. But any guy who did, depending on his mood, got a shove or a punch depending. He was Kel to all the guys on the team, and every nerd he'd helped terrorize. "Hey Beautiful," he bounced the compliment back at her. He leaned his head back on the couch as he looked up at the ceiling. He always felt pretty giddy whenever he was around the other girl. Sweet and spunky. "Don't worry about it. Shit happens. We'll just make up for it this Friday, yeah?" he mused softly. Friday, the typical date night. When the topic changed from practice to the girl's brother, Kel's brows softened and his smile faded. Hmph... Zander. What did he have to say about Zander? "... He came on as nervous. Then let his mouth get the better of him." he replied honestly. He smirked then and closed his eyes. "He thinks I'm a jerk. Though I'm sure he's let you know how he feels about me," he chuckled a bit. Sure, Zander had attempted to amend himself, say he didn't think Kel was a jerk. But it wasn't so much what he felt about him personally. Kel was part of a group that Zander saw as nothing but a bunch of privileged, hulking jerks. Honestly, Kel would agree. But it still didn't mean he couldn't be... annoyed about the fact regardless of how nice he'd tried to be he was still grouped in with his knuckle head friends. "I offered him a ride home too. But he declined it. Seems like he thought I'd had some ulterior motive." he sighed a bit. "Guess with how he's been treated of course he'd be a bit paranoid..." Kel paused, when he realized he was kind of going on and on about the girl's brother. He cleared his throat then. "So how was practice? And did you get through Mr. Lynch's dastardly math exam?" he chuckled as he tried to direct the conversation back to his girlfriend. Yet he was... curious. The girl's brother continued to flutter around in his mind. He shook his head. |

Zoey listened patiently as Kelly talked about Zander, not thinking anything peculiar of it, though she was surprised that her boyfriend had stepped outside of his jock popularity bubble to offer her brother a ride home. "That was nice of you," she murmured quietly, pleased that he'd at least tried to be friendly. Still, she couldn't fault Zander for his reaction, either. "But look at it from his point of view, Kelly. Maybe you've never hit him or come after him physically like the other guys have, but you don't try to stop them, either. You stand there and watch, and in Zander's mind, that makes you just as bad as them." Shaking her head, the girl tried to explain without pissing Kelly off. "I know how my brother thinks. He doesn't understand why you would sacrifice what he considers simple human decency just to retain your popularity and your friends. I'm sure whatever he said to you today wasn't meant as an insult... it just comes from you not knowing each other." Huffing out a breath, Zoey hoped that she'd managed to somehow explain her brother to her boyfriend, without pissing Kelly off and having him think that she was insulting him, too. Relieved at the change of topic, she brightened slightly and grinned through the phone. "Practice was hell, as always. My legs are killing me, which isn't unusual. But, we should be ready for the upcoming regionals, which is good. You'll come watch and cheer me on, right?" she teased. Then her expression changed and she rolled her eyes. "Ugh.... I hate math. It's awful, and should be done away with completely. But, I think I managed to pass, thanks to Zander's help. He's a real Godsend when it comes to stuff like that." Completely unaware that he was being discussed over the phone, the glasses-wearing teen was currently pacing the length of his room, up and down, over and over again. He'd finished all his homework after school while he'd been at Zo's practice, and he'd just finished his book. Now he had nothing to occupy his mind and the thoughts and reminders of his interaction with Kelly began to crowd in to torment him. Finally, unable to stay cooped up in the house any longer, he donned his typical running attire - a pair of knee-length basketball shorts and a white tank top - and, without a word, let himself out of the house to run off his frustrations. Hearing the front door slam, Zoey peeked through her window to see Zander taking off in his running clothes, and she frowned slightly, wondering where he was going and why he was running this late. He usually only ran first thing in the morning before school. "Weird," she muttered to herself. |

Kelly had listened to Zo's explanation for Zander's response. He frowned a bit, but he made no comment. So maybe he was being the Switzerland among the Jocks. Playing a neutral role, not helping nor hindering. Just standing back and watching. But if he did dare stand up for the other guy and any of the other nerds around school, he'd be spelling his own death. Metaphoric death anyway. He'd worked too hard to get to where he was, to throw it all away. But he didn't bring up a word. The topic was in the past, and he'd moved Zo onto something less fraying. A smile couldn't help but come back to his face as Zo mentioned the upcoming regionals. "Course I'll be. Though I won't be putting on a skirt and pom poms though... Hope that doesn't disappoint you too much," he smirked playfully. And he chuckled at the mention of the math test. And the fact her brother helped her profusely. "... so he... tutors you sometimes?" he asked. Kel rose from the couch then, as he kept the phone to his ear. He headed up stairs to the kitchen. He passed by his siblings, who were in the midst of doing some instrumental practice: Becky with her violin and Peter at the piano. He spared his siblings a glance before heading to the fridge. He grabbed out a carton of OJ, and grabbed a glass from the cupboard and poured himself a cup. "... What's weird?" he asked, after hearing the faint murmur from the girl over the phone. He stole a few gulps of the tangy juice, before walking over to one of the windows. He looked out over the street. The outside was still faintly a glow from the sun which had recently set. But it would be night soon. "... So what do you wanna do this Friday?" Kel offered, trying to think in a forward manner. Future thinking was a good thing right? "We could catch a movie, hang out at one of our houses, go out to eat, sneak into a club if you like," he chuckled a bit. "You know me... I'm up for anything." |

Zoey shrugged when Kelly asked if Zander tutored her, though she knew that he boyfriend couldn't see her through the phone. Still, her voice was expressive enough that the jock could probably hear it. "Mmmmm... not really tutoring, no. I do well enough on my own. But Zander gets straight A's without even trying, and he's got his own methods for figuring out math problems and such that are way easier to remember than the long way around that the teachers show us. Or, maybe it's the same method, but he explains it differently." Another shrug. "I don't know what it is, really, but he helps me out when I get stuck on stuff." Then, hearing the question about what was weird, Zo wrinkled her brow and muttered, "Huh?" She had spoken mostly to herself, and hadn't realized that Kelly had heard her comment about Zander, but she quickly laughed and shook her head. "Oh... nothing. Just... Zander doesn't usually run at night, so it's just weird he went out to run now when he usually goes in the morning before school. That's all." Looking down at her math book with distaste, Zoey turned away from her desk and stared at her room, instead, wrinkling her nose at the mess it had become. She knew she needed to clean everything up and put her clothes away, but she'd been so busy recently with homework, volleyball practice, and trying to make time to be alone with Kelly that she just hadn't had the time or the inclination to clean her room. Shaking her head, she walked over to her bed and flopped down, grinning as her boyfriend asked what she wanted to do that Friday night. "Hmmm... maybe a movie," she mused out loud, thinking of being able to cuddle into Kelly in a dark theater. "Something scary so I can use it as an excuse to hold on to you. What do you think?" While Zoey was on the phone, Zander was running just as far and as fast as he could; his long legs churning and pumping while his shoes slapped against the sidewalk and his breath heaved out of his chest in near-painful gulps. His goal was to exhaust himself so that by the time he got home, he would be tired enough to just take a shower and drop into bed without having to worry about pesky thoughts chasing through his brain all night. |

A smile tweaked the blond's lips as his girlfriend informed him she'd like to see a scary movie. So she had an excuse to cuddle in tight against him. He had to chuckle in the face of her honesty. "At least you're upfront about your schemes," he mused. "Though I'd gladly hold you even if it wasn't scary," he teased gently into the phone. He'd not commented on the fact her brother had decided this was a fine time to go jogging. Wasn't like he should worry or even care about what Zo's brother did. It was only the fact he was Zo's twin that he even bothered trying to be amiable in the first place. But he'd seen how that had turned out. Just a big kick in the teeth... The two chatted a while longer, into the evening. That was till Kel noticed something, no, someone very interesting outside. He squinted his eyes. Holy... was that Zander? ... Their houses were... sort of close. But not close enough that walking wouldn't be a pain. "Hey, hun... I gotta go for now. I'll see you tomorrow yeah?" he mused softly, as his eyes flicked back to the phone. "Get some sleep. Can't wait for Friday," he grinned. "G'night," he beckoned into the phone. He then hung up and pocketed his phone. Although they were dating, Kel had yet to sat the 'L' word. Even if his kind was loose with that word for the sake of getting into girl's pants, Kel did not take that word so lightly. Although he was fond of Zo, he couldn't call it love... not just yet. His head lifted then, seeing Zander hadn't gotten far. Within a few moments the blond was walking out of his front door with his sneakers on. He walked out to the end of the driveway. "... Yo... Zandy," he called down the quiet street. "... You thirsty?" he held up a bottle of water, shaking it a bit in his hand. |

Zoey smiled at Kelly's teasing, glad that he wasn't put off by her honesty. She chattered with him for a few more minutes, then nodded when he said he had to go. "All right. Sweet dreams, handsome. I'll see you tomorrow. Night!" She didn't use the 'L' word either, and she was grateful that her boyfriend didn't throw it around so easily like a lot of his friends did. At least it proved that he was considerate enough not to lie to her just to get down her pants. Once she'd hung up her own phone, she placed it on her desk and, with a sigh, got back to the nasty business of finishing her homework. Zander, for his part, ran almost blindly down the street, knowing vaguely where he was and how to get home. He could feel his lungs constricting with every breath, and the muscles in his legs were screaming at him. He knew it would soon be time for him to stop, but not just yet; he still had far too many thoughts of his sister's boyfriend swirling around in his brain. He'd had a crush on the bigger boy for quite a while now, before Zoey had even started dating him. Zander had felt betrayed, at first, though he quickly came to realize that his sister had had no way of knowing that she was hooking up with the very person that her brother wanted for himself. The nerd had never told anyone about his preferences and tendencies, though he'd noticed it in himself several years ago and had desperately tried to ignore it. Musing quietly as he ran, he thought that perhaps Kelly himself was the catalyst that had finally made Zander accept that he was, in fact, gay. There was no getting around it. He'd even tried looking up heterosexual porn, and had found himself falling asleep after only a few minutes of watching it. When he'd looked up homosexual porn, however, he'd developed an erection that was so persistant, he'd had to go take care of his 'problem' in the shower. And what was worse? He'd pictured Kelly's face in his mind as he'd relieved himself. Even now, almost two years after the fact, Zander's face flamed with embarrassment. What would his parents, his sister, say if they knew that their shy, quiet, nerd had gay fantasies about his sister's boyfriend? Almost like a dream, he heard someone call his name and offer him something to drink. Coming to a slow stop, he pivoted on one foot, then blinked owlishly when he realized who it was that had called out to him. "Kelly?" he asked quietly, though he was sure the other boy couldn't hear him, being about half a block away. Eying the water bottle greedily, he debated with himself for a moment over whether he should just continue his run and go home, or if he should try to make up for that afternoon and go talk to the jock. Finally, with a shake of his head, he began to walk back toward Kelly, imagining all the things that could possibly happen - some of Kelly's jock friends could be waiting inside to jump Zander; Kelly himself could decide to deck him for the things he'd said that afternoon; the water could have something in it that would make him sick; there were all manner of possibilities that ran through his head, but despite them all, when he finally reached the jock, he stretched his arm out and took the water. "Thanks," he murmured quietly, his eyes staring somewhere over Kelly's left shoulder. He couldn't quite meet the other's gaze, but he wanted to try and at least seem polite. Unscrewing the cap and lifting the bottle to his lips, Zander took several healthy swallows, feeling the coolness wash through him and puddle in his belly. After a moment, he lowered the bottle and shifted his gaze so that he was actually meeting Kelly's eyes. He was going to thank the other boy again, but then something finally hit him and he frowned slightly up at the taller boy. "Wait a second.... did you just call me Zandy?" A spark of humor lit the nerd's green eyes, and he chuckled quietly before admitted, "Is that my new nickname, then? It's different, I'll say that much." |

Kel stood there patiently as Zander took a moment or two to realize he had indeed heard his name called and there was water being offered to him. Sure enough, he watched with bemusement as the nerd approached him. He had no idea about the devious what ifs that were running through Zander's head. Though if he had he would have said Zander was down right paranoid. But in the same vein, Kel wouldn't have put it past his jock buddies. Some of them he swore didn't have anything better to do than to torment other students. Kel on the other hand found the very idea of planning someone demise as a waste of time and energy. He handed him the bottle. And then his hands slid into the pockets of his jeans as he watched the thirsty teen sip from the bottle. "It's no trouble," Kel replied, when he was thanked for the water. Though he smirked as Zander mentioned the little nickname he'd tossed out. He gave a shrug. "You mean your sister doesn't call you something like that?" he mused quietly. It'd oddly been the first thing to pop out of his mouth. "Never pegged you as a jogger," he added, as he eyed him up and down a moment. His posture relaxed, as his weight fell more to his right leg. "You ever thought about trying out for track and field? Or the cross country team?" he asked curiously. "I actually got my start on those teams. Kinda miss being on em," he chuckled a bit. A hand lifted to rub at the back of his neck. "Man.. . that was back in middle school. Long time go..." he mused quietly. His eyes flicked back to Zander's. He cleared his throat then and lowered his hand. Well... what to talk about now? He didn't exactly want to address what had happened that afternoon. If they could both just put it behind them he felt that'd probably be best. He hoped... |
