[[ LOL Joshua Bell ]] Joshua Bell? So he really had planned this ahead of time. But then again, Isaac supposed it was an excuse for Pearce's head to be up in the clouds today, although Isaac was not a personal fan of Bell because he tended more towards Shaham and Mintz, he would still keep an open mind about it, even if he didn't agree with half of what the man said, and besides, it wasn't as if Bell really would nab his seat at the New York Phil. With Bell here, maybe the female half of the orchestra would actually gawk enough to focus. Here finally was a player that could either make or break Isaac's ego, although he chose not to go down the virtuosic route, it was still interesting, and Isaac could have done it, although that might have just been the jealousy talking. Matthias was giving him a look again. That said something like, 'you'd better not give Bell attitude'. And Isaac's look only returned to say, "Wouldn't dream of it." (Although Matthias should have known better by now.) He watched Pearce take his seat down in the audience again, he'd save pushing his luck for later. Walking over with his violin in hand, Isaac held out a hand, "it's nice to see Pearce finally pulling out the big guns. Isaac Langley, I don't supposed you'd like to make yourself comfortable in my chair today?" |

(...I got desperate.) As the orchestra focused on the celebrity in their midst, Rei was trying to get into the right state of mind to conduct. It wasn’t likely that he would be successful but he wouldn’t let people pick up on it. He could get through rehearsal. God damn it, he knew he could. “I suppose you’re the concertmaster?” The violinists tone was polite, though he raised a brow at the blunt character in front of him. A rather interesting choice. Then again, Rei always had a bad habit of getting involved with characters much too strong and stubborn. “I’ll just grab a seat and pull it up, no need to give anything up. Pretend I’m not here,” he spoke lightly, eyeing the conductor with a somewhat worried glance. The phone call had been sudden and urgent. He would demand an explanation later. “Anything significant going on today? It’s rare that Rei makes a call.” |

[[ I would have suggested Ruslan Biryukov, but he's a cellist and that wouldn't have worked lol. He's a nut. I couldn't help the link. XD]] "Pretend you're not here?" Isaac's mouth twitched, "Might be a hard bargain since you're the Joshua Bell, after all, but I'll give it a shot. And yes, I am. I try to make it blatantly obvious most of the time so that people don't get confused." (Out of the corner of his eye, he could see Matthias slapping his forehead again.) "...And if you feel inspired, please feel free to read the Bruch. Hilary's soloing for the concert, but it's good to get new prospectives..." And he would have gone on for a while, if the violinist hadn't asked him what was going on with their conductor. Eh... Isaac shrugged, "Beats me, Pearce's being very odd nowadays." Of course he didn't mention that half of was technically his fault. "...I was actually hoping you'd have more answers than me about that..." (since Bell was by all means an 'old friend' and Isaac was just a violinist who liked to stir up trouble and give the concertmaster more than his fair share of headaches. But it wasn't like Pearce wouldn't thank him later. Isaac would be wealthier for it too...no complaints there. "Anyway...make yourself at home," Isaac clicked his fingers sharply towards the lone violinist than sat last stand in his section, "Walton, I want you up front, now." "But--" "Up, now." Matthias almost looked like he was choking. |

Joshua had to fully remind himself to keep smiling. The favor was sounding rather strange but as Rei had sounded desperate, even though now he didn’t look it, it was one he accepted. There was no way some attitude was going to make him back out. He paused for a moment, think of the only thing that could possibly set off the conductor. “...He hasn’t mentioned any female names...has he?” But there was no way. No way that Rei would open up his heart and allow for Julia to be mentioned in front of his orchestra. That wasn’t quite possible...but he did mention something about York being here first, which would surely explain a few things… It was rather surprising though that he was being placed in the last stand but he didn’t argue. He had after all just joined, experience or no experience. Rei on the other hand had coughed for attention and looked like he usually did. Lips turned downwards, brows pushed together, hand on hip and the other tapping against the stand, his over all aura back to irritated and unsatisfied. He was back to normal. Or at least he appeared to be. Joshua couldn’t quite tell. “Enough gossiping,” he scolded, eyeing the all the power happy concertmaster. “Everyone take your seats. We’ll start from letter C, the entrances yesterday were much too weak there…” |

Well, he wasn't placing Bell there out of spite, (although it was slightly out of jealousy, maybe,) but Walton needed to be yelled at, and Isaac would much rather yell at Walton while he was up here than have Bell sit up, and have no one pay attention. Although he did raise a brow, "Female friends? I wasn't aware that he had any." But then again, there was a lot of things that Isaac apparently didn't know about Pearce, but he'd find out, eventually. "Wait...on the second thought, this could get interesting. Isaac gave his conductor a vague half smile, "Right, right, I'm going." Who else to better yell at Walton who couldn't play than the grouch himself. And besides, as long as he had Matthias up there, Isaac had free reign. If Walton fudged the solo, it'd be holy hell to come. But of course...Pearce had to put up a good face for his old friend. "On the second thought, I'll join you back here. Have fun, Concertmaster Walton." Walton looked very much like he was going to the gallows and mumbled something under his breath. Isaac though, ignored him and pulled up a chair next to Joshua and the back stands immediately straightened. It was Joshua Bell and Isaac Langley sitting there, of course the first name had more of an effect than the second one, but he was just going to ride on it, fully. If anything, maybe he really could shape up the section while learning a few things. Female names? Like a girlfriend? But noting Pearce's pissed off face, Isaac raised up his violin. |

Joshua frowned, thinking to himself. So it wasn’t Julia? Then what on earth was bothering Rei? He’d have to call Nick. He would probably know. He tended to know everything about Rei’s musical career merely because he was the most set on getting it ‘back on track’. He never approved of his decision to conduct. “Ah...well then,” he spoke, smiling as he took a seat in the back and trying to ignore the few that turned their heads around to look at them. The poor souls… “...And don’t forg--first chairs, this may sound like a rhetorical question but where am I?” Rei spoke, stopping form his little monologue to bring in a rather hesitant speaker in the front. “I-In front of us, s-sir,” one brave voice let out. “Then heaven’s why explain the need to turn your head. The answer is that there isn’t any. Next to turn will be sharing the lovely duty of cleaning the hall with the staff after rehearsal.” It was a warning that would be followed and few heads dared to turn after that. On the bright side, the back row had never looked more focused. Unfortunately, Isaac had strangely enough moved there and left Walton to lead. “Derringer lead,” he spoke, once again eyeing the black haired concertmaster who had a rather strange way of doing whatever he had planned. “Eyes up,” he started, before he tapped the beats needed to introduce and beginning to cue, trying to hold in the twitch as only a few sounds managed to make it in time. This was going to be a long rehearsal. |

Well, for one thing, the back rows were focused, and for another, Isaac knew he'd get a free pass for today because Rei wouldn't want to look bad in front of Bell even when he wanted to thrash his concertmaster. Besides, Isaac wasn't doing anything bad, was he? The whole orchestra was more productive this way, and if Pearce wasn't going to help productivity, then Isaac would have to rise to the occasion. Walton though, looked no less better when Matthias prodded at him to switch places, the poor fellow looked absolutely paralyzed, he was probably going to get kicked out of the Phil at the end of the season, he'd barely made the cut last time. In the end, they ended up rehearsing the Carnival more successful than they'd ever done. It was the Bruch in the second half the rehearsal, but before Isaac could figure how to screw that to his best advantage, he had to get through break. And first things first. "I never thought the two of you were on such good terms, Joshua." Isaac turned to him from his instrument. Actually, he couldn't believe how anyone could be on such good terms with Pearce, and besides, why coudln't Joshua Bell inspire Pearce to pick up his instrument again? "I mean, Hilary, I can understand, she went to Juilliard prep with him...but you..." Well, Joshua seemed like a simple enough guy, that was the easiest way to get answers, since Pearce certainly wasn't going to give him any. "Why are you here, anyway? Pearce think you're good for morale?" |

Rei let out a rather pleased sigh at the end of the first part of rehearsal, leading the tension in the room to disintegrate. “Not bad,” he spoke, the compliment not taken lightly be the members in the group. Rarely did he say positive factors in a rehearsal. They’d take it no matter how light it may be. The moment break started, he was right back on his phone, threatening David that he didn’t damn well care about morality and that he should just open the letter and tell him what in the world was written. Joshua was left to his own seat, eyes closed as he thought before the concertmaster spoke to him. “He used to perform you know. Nick York brought me to one of his concerts, since Rei never liked performing for large groups and tended to only do small concerts, it was almost impossible to get a ticket unless you had insiders. We had a few drinks after and stayed in touch ever since.” It was a simple and innocent explanation, the story of how most performers ended up meeting. “He said he needed to get his mind off something,” he spoke, lifting up his violin and playing a few bars of the Bruch that was mentioned earlier. “You sound like your curious about Pearce. Got a crush?” |

Walton looked like he was about to piss himself, but when Pearce said not bad, he relaxed. Matthias decided not to burst the guy's bubble and tell him it was a general compliment. "Ah, that makes sense, that would also explain why I've never heard of him," because after Isaac had been rejected by Juilliard prep, he'd gone to the Royal Music Academy in London and stayed there a couple of years before he came back to Boston. Performers didn't usually cross seas unless you really made it big, like Bell, Shaham and Hahn. Of course, Isaac was a small timer too, after his big breakout with the Vienna Phil, he hadn't played with an orchestra again, except to be in the orchestra. He liked the limelight, but not that much. He was considering this, when Joshua said that Pearce needed to get his mind off of something, and then subsequently asked him if he was crushing on Pearce. The idea was such a novelty that Isaac almost dropped his violin. "No." he shook his head, "I'm just...well, I'm part of his orchestra, yeah? And it doesn't do very well for me if his head's somewhere else. But the fact that you mention that...does that mean he's available for someone to crush on?" Isaac was quick to cover his own ass with, "I might know a few people. But not me." Not a lie, just a stretch of the truth. He was about to ask something too, when Walton came back and looked white as a ghost, "May I have my seat back for the second half, please?" "Yeah, yeah, don't shit yourself, please, it's not professional." Walton looked elated and left. Good for him. Guy was going to be jobless next season anyway. |

Joshua merely hummed lightly, playing a few more bars as he took in the response he received. “Are you suggesting that he isn’t a competent conductor?” He let out lightly, wondering if the violinist would be ballsy enough to say yes. What was more interesting was the rather strange response he received for a simple yes or no question. “Well there was…but I think that blew over...then again...someone is always available to be liked, it just depends on whether one will reciprocate the feeling...Rei tends to not like dealing with musicians when it comes to love…” He hummed for a moment more, playing a rather difficult area of the song as Walton came and left. “Something on how, and I quote, ‘I do not like to be played. In all senses of the word’. He keeps his heart quite guarded you know, won’t take betrayal or trickery lightly.” For just someone part of his orchestra, Isaac seemed much too concerned with Rei. “You think you know a few people who are Rei’s type? He doesn’t like light haired people you know. Bad experience in the past...thinking that if he gets laid he'll become a bit more relaxed?" |

Maybe Joshua Bell was more of a gold mine than Isaac realized. Which might or might not be a good thing. Isaac didn't know yet, until he probed him a little more. "Well, no, of course I wouldn't say that, but...people don't always perform to their best abilities while they're distracted, right? However a genius Pearce may be, that truth also applies to him." He didn't like to be played...ah, oops, a little too late. But if all blew over well, then Rei Pearce would never know about the six grand that was waiting for Isaac after he got into Pearce's pants. Neither would Joshua Bell, actually. But at the light haired people comment, Isaac blinked, it had come up twice already, so... Must be important. "Light haired people? Doesn't have anything to do with the stereotypical blonds, does it? I've always figured Pearce for the type of person to overlook that sort of thing." But wait...Joshua Bell agreed with him? Isaac wasn't going about it in the best way, but it seemed like at least they were in agreement. Careful not to making anything slip though, he nodded over at the other violinist, "...You're not...light-haired, why don't you make the cut?" (Isaac himself also had dark hair, but he was not going to mention that for right now.) [[ Ahaha this is amusing me so much. =D]] |

Joshua nodded, accepting the words. “Off course but I’d think that you’d all appreciate his moment of distraction. It shows he’s capable of the emotion most assume that he lacks,” he mused, noting to himself the word ‘genius’. Then again, it was very likely the violin was watching his words. They both were after all. “Not at all,” Joshua laughed, shaking his head sadly. “Rei doesn’t believe in stereotypes...it’s just that all his past partners were light haired and tended to be jerks who were with him just for the fame or money that came with his career.” He pondered once more, enjoying their little match of words. “It’s just that experience seems to have strangely stuck with him.” He hummed lightly at the nod, raising a brow at the interesting information. “Because we’re not attracted to one another. We respect one each other and have no need to push boundaries for no reason,” he confessed lightly. “Besides...I’m gaining on my years, it isn’t healthy to shock an old man like me,” he joked, placing his violin across his lap as he leaned in to whisper. “I don’t think my heart could handle to see him moan.” He went back to himself, laughing as he eyed the concertmasters own dark strands. “What about yourself? Your hair is practically black.” (Let the mind games play on...I enjoy playful Josh) |

[ The real JB would be so appalled lolol. He's actually pretty chill in person though. ] "Well...I guess you have a point there," Isaac ran a hand unconsciously through his hair because they were talking about hair, probably. "Most of us don't really think he lacks emotion, it's just..." he trailed off, not exactly sure how to finish the sentence, so he left it there. Besides, Joshua could interpret it how he will. He eyed his violin and practically dropped it again when it was imparted to him that Joshua probably couldn't handle Pearce moaning. So had they..? Probably not. If all they had was just as the other violinist said, that they had scholarly respect between them. "You'd never know, Pearce looks like the type to go for those jaded mature types...not that I'm saying you're the former, but still." Joshua Bell was really full of surprises today. Isaac put his violin into his case and snapped it shut to save it from an unfortunate fate as he pondered the question. Should he tell him? That he was playing Pearce for all he was worth? Eh, never mind. When Isaac finally spoke, his words were careful. "I may be physically his type, maybe? But it's going to be sort of hard for me to consider a relationship with anyone that...seems to hate me. And besides, I'm going to be a musician for the rest of my life, I grew up in the same background." (Which was only slightly true, but he wanted an opinion on that statement.) |

(Well, for dramatic plot purposes he’ll have to deal that he’s different here.) To Joshua’s eye, it certainly did look like this Isaac character was hiding something. The words were a bit too thought out. He decided that perhaps he should be a bit more blunt in his approach. “Him? Not at all. He’d need someone much more energetic than a ‘jaded mature’ character. Someone to teach him how to smile on the outside and the inside,” he spoke, as if he was hinting at a certain individual but making no clear show. “And no offense was taken.” Now that was interesting, wasn’t it? “Hate you?” He laughed at that, rather beautifully as he glanced toward the conductor still talking on his cellphone, a firm frown in place as he tried to get the information he wanted. “But have you given him anything to love other than your talent?” He questioned, almost convinced entirely that Isaac had some sort of an eye on the conductor. “Are you considering a relationship with him? Or just thinking of helping him loosen up?” He didn’t touch on the musician comment at first, thinking on it rather lightly. “You seem much more stubborn to give up just because of some conductor’s opinion of musicians. That’s a rather silly excuse if its stopping you. So I ask again,” he spoke, eyeing the male with his soft eyes. “Are you interested in him?” |

"You're not exactly asking me a fair question." Isaac said, beginning to feel a little boxed in because it was becoming increasingly clear that Joshua had an advantage, simply because he knew what kind of person Pearce was, while Isaac knew nothing at all. "In asking me if I want to help him loosen up, you're also asking me if I would consider a relationship with him. I might not know that much about Pearce, but at least I know he won't do things casually..." And Matthias was nowhere to be found to come to his rescue. That was great. Well...Patricia was lingering nearby, but having her come over would just be more harm than good. Isaac looked away, down at his hands for a long moment. "You're right...but that's one more thing in my way, isn't it? I might be stubborn, but I also don't like to work hard." (He'd work hard for six grand, but Joshua Bell didn't need to know that.) But...if he said he was interested, maybe he'd gain valuable help. But then when he did break it off...he'd have Joshua Bell on his ass...which probably wouldn't be good, even if he was Isaac. "You might be thinking a little too much of me," he admitted finally, the picture of a rather tragic person, as if Joshua had driven him to the wall and he couldn't help himself but admit it. A damn fine piece of acting, if he did say so himself. Joshua Bell was a good advocate to have on Isaac's side. "I guess I am...just a little. But...as far as things go, I don't appear to be helping my own case. Ask him about me, he'll probably tell you I'm a brat. Besides, to be interested in my conductor is just...unprofessional." (But since when did Isaac care about being professional?) |
