"You were in France," Rei pointed out as if it was obvious. "If I went to France, I'd get fat from going out every night and eating various cheeses and drinking wine, not bother for a moment to learn how to cook. But I live in New York, rent is expensive and I don't have enough money to eat out often." The conductor paused as the man inspected the food and approved, smiling a bit as he laughed. "I'm not perfect. I have many things I'm incapable of doing...bone app-e-tit?" He attempted, shaking his head as he realized that he was probably only getting worse at the language, not better. "Freak out on you?" The light haired man raised a brow, smiling as he tried some of his own omelette. "Needs a bit of salt...anyway, if I invite you over I have the full understanding of what that entails. You sound more worried than you should be. In a rush to get me naked? He teased with a laugh before taking another bite. The vibe from the situation felt strange. It took Rei a moment to realize he had slept over and was having breakfast, when originally he was only going to stay for a few hours. Isaac had a talent at getting his way. |

"But I was in Lyons, Lyons is nothing like Paris, monsieur. Besides, I have a high metabolism, so I don't have to worry so much about gaining weight. But yeah, I see your point." The thought of Rei Pearce having to watch what he ate was a bit hilarious. Okay, more than a bit. Grinning, he nodded, "Bon appetit." Although Rei, not unlike Matthias, had butchered the word beautifully. He wasn't going to lie and tell him that he was getting better at it. Maybe having a good ear for music didn't mean that he also had an ear for language. He was a bit glad for that, because Isaac didn't think he could stand anyone perfect. "That's good, I have at the moment, over a hundred flaws...you'll probably go nuts trying to get through them all." Which was why Isaac was careful. He chewed slowly to give him more time to think about it. "Salt's over there." He pointed. After all, he didn't know what kind of answers were safe, here. Finally, he shrugged. "It's not that." (Well, he still had a week and a half for that to happen, he was in no particular hurry...sort of.) "It's more...you have more misgivings than I do about this whole...thing," Isaac gestured idly. "So...I just, well." Maybe it was good to be a bit vulnerable right now. If he was vulnerable, Rei might or might not think that he was the one with the upper hand. "Though yes, I'm human and seeing you naked would be nice. The feeling would have to be mutual though." There, that was mostly a safe answer. Isaac found himself hoping that Matthias took his time in the shower today. |

"Lyons, Paris, its all the same language," Rei spoke before glancing at the other, with his high metabolism and impeccable French. "That's what I said. Bone app-e-tit." Even when he heard the phrase again, he managed to mess it up just as well as he had the first time. He had only learned how to say the terms of music if they were in another language, practicing for hours to get a single word right perfectly when he was instructing. He didn't have to speak French or any other language. "For every flaw you have a feature that makes up for it," Rei pointed out. "You have all these complexes you keep mentioning but manage to stay confident and play beautifully, you have a talent for languages and you can eat liver. Which was bland, and I'm never eating it again." He still remembered Isaac seeing him eat it and needed to clear that up. "I have many more faults than you can hope to possess and not as many positive to outweigh them. It once again makes me wonder what in the world you see in me," he spoke. He was being honest, not the desperate sort of words that searched for compliments. He was too old to play that game. "While I'm sure you'd love to see my wondrous nude form, I can assure you that the only time you will be seeing it is when I'm comfortable with it," Rei reassured before grinning. "Though if you feel like shedding a few layers no one would mind. Except maybe Derringer." |

"True," it was all French, and it didn't matter how many times Rei said it. It was still wondrously, wondrously atrocious. Isaac only smirked around the rim of his coffee cup. "That's where you're wrong though. You just think that I have many talents and complexes, which is good. It's what I want you to think. I don't think you can bear the me from a couple of years ago." (If the attempted conductor switch was anything to go by.) "I'd like to think I've grown up just a little since then." And then Isaac laughed, despite himself, "Being able to eat liver is not an accomplishment or a talent, you overestimate me. It's just something you're either born to like or not. An acquired taste." He merely shrugged, "Speaking the languages are the same, I'm only bloody effected and well versed in French because I've been to those countries. If I'd never left New York...then. I'd be the same." Isaac was quiet, Rei sounded eager to sell his own faults, as if he thought that Isaac would be repulsed by them and run away. Somehow, it didn't seem quite like that. For that, he merely leaned across the table and pressed a kiss to his forehead, "And of course you forget what I said about working too hard. You're honestly going to get wrinkles before your time." (He was channeling Bradley a little, but who would remember?) "If you'd let yourself go a little, you'd see what I see in you. But yes, I guess it's a very comforting thing that you think you look wondrous naked." And then Isaac snorted, "Seriously, d'you think Matthias hasn't seen me naked? We've been roommates for years." And then Matthias had to choose that moment to walk out dressed, but with a towel around his head. He did a double take and said, "Jesus, what the fuck are you doing up at seven-thirty?" "Eating breakfast, want some?" |

"You want me to think you have issues, have a talent in music and are fully displaying an accent to convince me to invite you over soon?" Rei only shook his head, taking a sip of his coffee, the deep flavor sending a warm feeling right toward his stomach. Or maybe it was the kiss to his forehead. He wasn't sure. "You obviously forgot what liver tastes like,"Rei spoke, wrinkling his nose as he remembered the flavor. He didn't understand what the man saw in it. Or what he saw in him. "You have strange acquired tastes." The conductor wrinkled his forehead in reply though. "I'll look wise then," he spoke, taking another sip of coffee before Matthias entered the room, thankfully dressed but sporting a towel around his brown strands. The sight made Rei took another long sip to hide a smirk. Nick did the same thing. "Eggs or peanut butter on bread?" Rei spoke rather lightly, not at all bothered by the mans words. It was best to not build open the fact that Isaac was only out of bed because of him, considering the most food Rei would be having after was probably another round of coffee and brandy. Perhaps water if he was really running short on time. |

He had strange acquired tastes...well, probably. Isaac did not disagree with him as the conjecture was most likely true. "People are too normal nowadays, I have to do something weird. Normalcy would kill me." And that was mostly true. "I remember what liver tastes like, I used to be a regular patron of liver. But I'm touched that you'd think to try liver because of me." It was nice to think that he had a hold over Rei...a hold that even Rei himself did not realize that he had. Bonus points for Isaac. "And maybe...you think too highly of me." Without meaning to, obviously. "I'm not displaying my accent, trust me, I haven't been this effected for years, shit happens. But since you like it so much, I don't try too hard to get rid of it. That's my excuse." Isaac had to grin at Matthias' somewhat horrified expression, although he wasn't quite sure what his friend was horrified about. "It's good, he cooked." Matthias looked a little faint. "I figured, since you know, you can burn salad." "Fuck you." But of course he didn't mean it. He only burned salad once, and it wasn't even because he was trying to cook the said salad. "I'm going to just grab a sandwich down at the deli...I'm supposed to give lessons to some kids in Queens today. So I'll...uh, see you guys both...later. I'm taking the car." "Ah...okay, have fun." Isaac didn't mind, he could have Rei's food all to himself, it was good food. Never going to give the French place a run, but still good food. |

Which brought Rei's worries right back to why Isaac liked him. He liked people who weren't in the normality and had a tendency to yearn what he couldn't have. Which resulted in an early expiration date the closer they got. It wasn't a pleasant thought in the slightest. "I'm just being polite and keeping inside my large list of your faults." Like the obnoxious wit that could respond to anything, the narcism at his own skill and how he seemed to have everything planned before hand. It made his head hurt and not in a good way. Even his hands in a strange twisted way were a fault. "And I realized how obnoxious I was to detest something I hadn't tried. So I did and now I can rightfully detest it." Ha. Take that. Good he was acting like a child. He took another sip as Matthias spoke. He took another bite of his food silently, though he paused as he sent a confused glance at the man. ...Burnt...salad? "...How did you manage to burn salad?" |

"I hope that you're not going to apply that philosophy to the rest of your life," Isaac said, looking surprisingly earnest this time, "After all, I'd hate it if I turned out to be another liver." Maybe putting it like that and guilt tripping his conductor was a dirty trick, but it was a trick that Isaac felt was well-used in this case. After all, if Pearce saw that Isaac had his own inhibitions towards things in general...perhaps. After all, he couldn't afford to be too confident even if he had mapped everything out, and things were going along beautifully. At the end of the day, Isaac was a strategist. He hated it when things went wrong. And things had gone horribly wrong with Bradley when they shouldn't have. That bugged him, perhaps more than the cheating itself actually ever did? "You're really...nah, never mind. That just sounds like you." Isaac smiled disarmingly again. He reached for his coffee cup, and then stopped. Eh. He managed to look embarrassed, "It was an accident, but he's never let me live it down ever since...this plate of salad was sitting there right? On the counter, and I just moved it on top of the stove for like a minute while I went and did something...I forgot what...and I forgot the stove was on and it...sort of burned. Yeah." "I'm not proud of it, it was stupid." |

"We are all liver," Rei spoke, not at all guilt tripped by the words at all. "You are with me until you grow tired and throw me away, as everyone does with every relationship we pursue. We try, judge and either keep ordering it or refuse to even glance upon it on the menu. You and I are no better." Perhaps it was a bit heartless but it was true. People stayed together for a reason. Blindness 'love' and such were pointless notions. While Rei wasn't a strategist, he was certainly a thinker and a planner. He liked his schedules and had life goals he meant to accomplish in life. He also enjoyed over analyzing, leaning against the counter as he eyed his boyfriend, who even he had yet to figure out. As if he was still unaware of the game he was playing and the rules to follow. Rei let it leave his mind as Isaac told him the story, smiling as he raised a hand to run through the dark strands. "Oh that's not too bad. I once blew up an egg." Well, he wasn't all at fault. "Alice wanted a hard boiled egg and while we were playing we lost track of time. The egg blew up. The egg shells stabbed into the ceiling and everything. Burning a salad would be a proud tale if you set it on fire." In a strange way he had taken the embarrassment out of the story, to make the stupidity vanish and partially cheer up the man. |

"I haven't gone that far...it was just burnt. Although I can't really see you exploding an egg." He couldn't see Rei as a lot of things. Isaac didn't even know where they were. Okay, so that didn't work. Either Isaac sucked as a strategist or there was something else he hadn't taken into account. (And not to his knowledge, yes, there was.) Isaac bit his lip, "That's a horrible way of putting it. I really wish you wouldn't put it like that." He put a hand to his forehead, as if he was tired all of the sudden, he was...just slightly. Thinking of all the things that could go wrong and attempting to use most of his advantage was bad for him. "'Cause you know, if you put it like that, I'm still the only one left...liking liver." The laughter sounded rightly strained, as if his throat wouldn't let him laugh. Isaac set down his cup and looked thoughtful for a moment. The sigh he let out sounded altogether pained. "Can I ask you something and you can give me an honest answer? Am I really the only one that wants this whole thing to work?" He didn't know how honest he was being. |

Perhaps the example of liver wasn't best suited to the situation, especially when Rei detested the flavor and Isaac seemed to enjoy it. It might be kicking at the mans ego a bit too much. Rei didn't answer immediately, taking a slow sip of his coffee as he considered the question. He was riding it out...but did he want this to work? Or was he just waiting until the inevitable, where he could then move on to his normal life. "I haven't thrown you out yet, have I?" Rei asked, raising a brow as he wondered what else to say. He didn't know if he wanted it to work out or not. All he knew was... "I wouldn't mind if this works though. If I didn't want this to work, I wouldn't bother putting in effort." A workaholic like him did plenty of time management. If a relationship was not worth it, he threw it away. While he didn't like liver, he was willing to give it a shot for now. Maybe Isaac could change his mind. |

Now, Isaac Langley was not a romantic...but if he wanted this to work, he probably needed to be one. So he sighed again, "But that's not how things are supposed to work...I mean, don't take it from me, I'm lousy at relationships, but--" (He had had too many of them, most of them ran lukewarm) "I don't want to go into this knowing that all you ultimately think about is how it won't...work. I mean, you're still thinking about that, aren't you? How everything could go disastrously wrong, and I'd have to move back to France and never see you again after we realize that we don't work." And now, it was good to admit something, "I mean, when I say I'm lousy, I'm lousy...but," Isaac bit his lip, he needed to appear vulnerable right now to see if Pearce would bite. If he didn't, than yeah, Isaac was never going to make it on time. He might as well end it and keep his job and be out twelve grand. "I just..." Finally, Isaac looked over, "When I want something to work, yeah, I work at it and hopes it succeeds, I don't want to think about how it'll just...fail. And that's a horrible image, you throwing me out." What made the image so horrible was that Isaac could see it too... |

It was horrible timing but Rei laughed. He smiled, almost touched by the strange words in a way he wasn't meant to be touched by. "You'd be so bothered by our break up that you'd move to France?" Fingers reached out to lightly play with the black strands. "That's kind of redundant. Especially after we spoke of going there together. You should go to India if anything." He didn't have anything against India. Rei just doubted he would ever go there. Or France for that matter. But that didn't matter. Yet perhaps Rei did overestimate the man in front of him. Who perhaps was ready to commit and wasn't looking to fool around and wasn't willing to put in all the effort unless both sides were completely into it. Maybe the picture of the conductor just leaving the other was too realistic in his mind, cutting him off without a second thought. "I'm pretty sure you'll be the one throwing me out," Rei replied honestly though he knew that wasn't the answer the man was looking for. He didn't have an answer at the moment. So he'd have to do something he hated. He lied. Half lied. He stretched the truth. Whatever. "I want this to work out in the end. Don't make an old man get emotional or any of that nonsense and eat your food before it gets cold." There. Now he had to wonder why he was beginning to worry over the image of Isaac kicking him out was bothering him. |

"I said I'd take you to see the Autumn Road, it's not like that's the whole of France," Isaac said. "There are plenty of other places to go, but if you wish, I'll disappear off to Vienna somewhere and practice my German." After all, if he never promised to take Rei to Vienna, so it was still a viable escape route. His second oldest sister lived there. But what was this? Apparently he wasn't supposed to run off to France because he was supposed to take Rei there first. What was that even supposed to mean? Suddenly Isaac's head hurt. "I'll take Vienna over India any day, at least I can sort of manage German." Well, at the end of the day, he supposed he was good at that, running. After all, he and Hannah hadn't worked out around the time he applied to Julliard Prep, so...he'd ran. He'd ran to London, and switched roommates three times because he had been careless. Bradley had caused him to run back here, and Rei was going to make him run off to Vienna someday. There was a pattern going on here. Isaac was sulking, he didn't really like to sulk, but he couldn't help it. Yes, it was childish, and immature, but maybe sulking would help him get what he wanted. "Jesus," he mumbled. Because he didn't really have much to say. Yes, this conversation further proved to him that he was off to an impossible mission. "Fine, whatever, I'll drop it." He reached for the pot to pour himself more coffee. (Well, hello, this was a relationship. A strange, twisted one that made no sense, but still...one had to be a little emotionally invested. At least.) |

Rei realized a little bit too late just how much his answer probably meant to the violinist. He looked like a kicked puppy, as if running away to the other side of the world really was an option. Like it was the only way he would be able to survive. Which confused him. "I don't want you to leave New York." He didn't like the idea of Isaac leaving at all. It bothered him. He wasn't sure why it did, but it upset him. So he put down his empty plate and mug, biting his lip before he took a step forward, as the man faced the counter and poured coffee. Arms wrapped around the firm stomach, his fingers lightly holding unto the clothing as he rested his cheek on the mans shoulder blade. "We've been together for less than a week Isaac," he pointed out, realizing that it was Monday and they had really only started going out on Friday. Today was only the fourth day. "You aren't being fair. How come you're allowed to say you want this to work out and already begin planning your escape route to Vienna?" He wasn't offended that India was scrapped. "You sound as if you're just waiting for this all too end and just want to blame it on one of us. Why do we have to think of tomorrow when we don't even know what's going to happen today?" |
