Matthias almost dropped his fork for the second time, did Pearce just say to Isaac that he was feeding himself dinner? That would have been a no brainer, unless...Pearce actually handfed Isaac something else beforehand. The oranges came to mind, it wasn't like he was completely stupid. Um. Awkward much?

And to further his horror, Isaac pouted at him, "You're really no fun, I would have fed you dinner, just for the record."

Actually, Matthias would prefer for that fact to remain off his record. Perhaps...forever. "Um, considering that I just drove halfway across town to get this stuff? I'd like to eat it and not throw it up, so each of you eating your respective dinners would be really...eh, nice." An understatement, he really needed to call York. This was progressing faster than how either of them feared. It didn't matter that York was probably loaded up with some hooker right now.

It was usually just him and Mattias at the table, otherwise the table occupied four, having an extra person felt weird. But not unpleasant.

"Oh, come on, Mattie, don't look at me like that. The world hasn't ended, and if you had a boyfriend, I would have driven across town to get you Italian food too. Cheers."

"So..." Matthias looked between the two of them again, "...You two really are...dating?"

Re wasn't at all surprised at Isaac responding that he would feed him dinner. He was even less surprised that Matthias was against the idea. It was certainly amusing to watch the mans facial expression that seemed similar to watching a horrible nightmare coming true right before his eyes.

"But you can eat dinner just fine on your own," he pointed out. "When you can't, then I'll feed you."

Sitting down on the table, there was no first time shyness at eating dinner or any sort of cute awkward behavior. It was all very Rei, straight faced and acting as if he was in his own home, though a bit more polite. Then again, he was wearing sweat pants and an oversized sweater, looking extremely casual compared to his usual attire.

The sight of such a serious state in such oversized clothing was almost mildly amusing.

As Matthias asked the question, Rei looked up, pursing his lips for a moment. "...Yes," he spoke, glancing at Isaac before looking back at the brunette. "Is it that surprising?"

"Oh, come on, it's the romantic notion of the whole exercise," Isaac nudged him, "What's romantic about it if I'm old and senile? Actually, you're closer to being old and senile than me, but if I keep going, I'm probably not going to get laid so I'll shut up now." He helped himself to a spoonful of calamari spaghetti. After that little spiel, Matthias looked (perhaps rightfully) green.

"Did not need to know that, thanks."

But then Rei asked him something, and Matthias had a lot more propriety than Isaac, so he looked down at his salad and considered the question. Rei Pearce was here at his kitchen table, in casual wear, eating dinner and dating Isaac.

"Yes, it slightly unnerves me." He admitted finally. What also unnerved Matthias was that this scenario was now even...possible. Hopefully Isaac realized that when his relationship with Pearce was over, so was his stint at the NY phil. Not that Isaac cared any, he could still get work at the fifty other orchestras around town.

"Did you hope it wasn't surprising, to me?"

“The romantic notion of the exercise is somewhat redundant. You aren’t a child,” Rei spoke, even though it was a bit strange considering he had fed the man oranges earlier. “When you are too sick or tired to feed yourself, I will do so.” It may have seemed a bit heartless but he couldn’t help put up the barrier. There was no way he was going to look weak in front of Matthias of all people.

He listened to the answer thoughtfully, nodding slowly as he wondered about the end. Would Isaac stay at his job? It would probably depend on how it ended...if it did. He wasn’t going to turn entirely pessimistic.

“I didn’t bother holding any hopes,” Rei corrected as he took a bite of his food. “I was more curious than anything else on your opinion. You two are close.”

Rei wasn’t dumb enough to just throw away and pretend that Matthias’s opinion didn’t matter. They lived together after all.

He and Isaac were close, which meant...

Pearce was...curious about his opinion. Which may or may not be a dangerous curiosity. Still,
Matthias turned to his salad and thought it over again. Finally, he shrugged, "Well, I don't really need an opinion, do I? At least end of the day, your relationship, not mine, and even if I am slightly unnerved, I'll get used to it. So congratulations. I'll be right back."

Isaac said, "Thank you, to throw up?"

Matthias said, "Maybe."

With a shake of his head, Isaac laughed, "He'll get used to it, probably just a little weirded out right now, you're really no fun. Sometimes I want to strangle you, and not the pornographic way either, but he really handled it better than I thought he would."

Matthias hadn't really gone to the bathroom to throw up, but in the privacy of his own bathroom, he dialed for help again. Maybe Nicholas York wanted to have dinner (not) but hopefully he wasn't tied up with some hooker, because this was one of the moments where he really needed advice. And between York and Larsen Langley...

It was kind of a no-brainer.

Well, that was an interesting answer. It gave away that Matthias was not approving of the relationship, making Rei merely nod as he watched the man leave. Something was definitely going on with the entire situation but he wouldn't question it.

"You know, you're not supposed to call your boy friend old, senile and such a lack of fun that you want to strangle him," Rei pointed out before smiling slightly. "This makes it even that I didn't call you."

He didn't want to discuss Matthias's reaction. It would lead to him explaining how various doubts and he preferred eating the food in front of him. It was cold, but definitely worth it.

Nick was not with a hooker. His fling for the moment had left to go back to work, a lawyer with high prospects that was also a fan of his work. He had taken a shower and was in the middle of dinner when he got a phone call, pausing as he recognized it.

Matthias Derringer.

The critic assumed that some sort of development occurred. "Nicholas York speaking...how may I help you?" Even if he knew, he always answered politely.

You just never knew who was borrowing someone's phone.

"See? There! It proves my point. You really are no fun, you can't even take a joke. No fun. Besides, if I actually thought all of the things I said, you and I probably wouldn't be dating." Isaac halfway noted that Matthias had left the table. All the more power to him. "I'm sorry, I didn't mean it, you can put another massage on that invisible tab you're keeping for me." That tab probably held all the things that Rei did or didn't like about Isaac. Maybe the whole thing was some balancing scale. If he only knew about the pro/con list, he would have laughed.

"And hey, you get free dinner. Don't be greedy, I can't be perfect, you know."

Isaac raked a hand through Rei's hair for a moment, pondering, should he make the offer? After all, the worst thing that really was going to happen was that Rei was going to say no, and then go back to his own apartment for the night.

"Want to stay the night? I promise to be honorable." He was always honorable. He hated dubious consent.

Matthias sat on the edge of his tub and prepared for York to tell him to call back later, he was in the middle of something...and instead, he got the freakishly polite greeting like last time, "You being nice really weirds me out. Can you go back to normal now? Isaac and Pearce are verbally foreplaying in my kitchen. My dinner didn't sit too well so I left."

He sighed, "I thought you'd have something to offer, because I'm in the habit of generally approving of every one of my best friend's significant others." And York probably never approved of Pearce's choices, knowing him.

"I was joking," Rei pointed out, though it was impossible to tell with his current facial expression. The hand that raked through his hair helped him relax as he slouched slightly. "I know you're not perfect," and then it came, those few rare moments that he revealed his strange ironic ways of attraction. "If you were perfect, you and I probably wouldn't be dating."

A direct quote, though a more important question was raised. Did he want to stay over? They had work late in the evening, and he trusted the man to be honorable. Not like it mattered, as Rei would be no means go much further than they had earlier with the man sick.

"Sure," he agreed, before lifting up his fork with a grin. "Now say 'ahh'."

Nick laughed. "Nice to hear from you," he spoke before his smile faded. "...Verbally...foreplaying...?"

He didn't quite understand such an idea because the members of said verbal foreplay were too difficult to understand. "You're speaking in tongues. I thought I heard you say Langley and Rei were in your kitchen engaging in verbal foreplay."

But he raised an eyebrow worriedly. "You finally disapprove? Way to step up to the plate," he spoke sarcastically before reaching for a cigarette. "If you're looking for a solution or some piece of advice...I would obnoxiously cough, knock on the door, or disrupt them often if you hear a single moan until we come up with something better."

"No shit, Einstein, make it less obvious next time, would you?" Isaac rolled his eyes, "And this is coming from someone who's had good practice. My brother's facial muscle's all dead. But he's a heart surgeon and doesn't need them."

But then Rei decided to pay him back by feeding him a forkful of calamari and saying yes to staying the night. Christmas had come early and after Isaac swallowed, he leaned in for a kiss, just a small peck, but it spoke volumes.

"For what it's worth, you're a strange guy. But I think you know that already. And that's partially why we're dating." Isaac scooped up a forkful himself, "Your turn."

"I don't disapprove, I just..." Matthias trailed off, "At this moment, I'm not sure what to think, I just know I might not like it. That's all." He still had to be fair to Isaac, a little."

But York's ideas all sounded like something he would have done during Elementary School. Matthias shook his head, "That's what I said, yes, I didn't believe it either, until they kept going. In case you missed it, here it is again: Isaac and Pearce are engaging in verbal foreplay in the kitchen. You sound very good at this though...are you sure you don't want to join us for cold Italian food so you can do it yourself? And I doubt they'd reached the sex stage yet."

Or maybe Matthias just didn't want to think about it.

"Your brother's a surgeon?" Rei remembered something mildly about medical school but didn't go further. It didn't matter as any want to go further died on his lips as he received a quick kiss before smiling.

"I'll take that as a compliment," the conductor spoke before he parted his lips and allowed himself to be fed.

So strange, how comfortable he felt.

The might was worrying. "I get it," Nick groaned, not even willing to imagine such a sight. But then he truly understood the mans words, almost dropping his cigarette before he understood why.

"You want me to come over to your place to observe them?" He asked before he shook his head and thought about the logistics of such a plan. "You need one hell of an excuse to give some sense as to why you're inviting me."

He doubted Isaac would appreciate it. Rei might just be mildly horrified.

"Mm hm, heart surgeon, he chose Harvard over music school and I've never forgiven him. He was a hell of a cellist way back in the day." Isaac put down his fork and looked thoughtful, "The four of us used to be a good quartet, you know. Until Larsen went off to med school and sort of ruined everything, we used to win competition and stuff...and I'll shut up now." That he had once upon a very long time, been in a quartet with his three other brothers and sister...seemed a little too personal.

And the only reason they were getting personal was because...they were getting comfortable with one another, a little too quickly, naturally, maybe.

"And now, to make up for that slip, you should tell me something."

"No, it was a desperate figure of speech. But I know I can't just leave and leave the two of them the apartment again." Isaac was good about being honorable, but this relationship wasn't exactly built on honor, which was the problem.

"If you came over...Isaac would probably try to kill you, bastards don't really get along with one another...not to say you're a bastard but...and I don't have an excuse for you to come over. So I'll suffer this through and complain to you about it some other time or something..."

"Bye...actually, do you prefer Nicholas or York?"

Rei, truthful to his listening ways, stayed silent and merely nodded as the man told him a little bit about his past. A simple, innocent story that made him smile, his eyes shining kindly as he wondered what to say. Isaac seemed to provide that for him.

"When I was in my first year at Julliard, my roommate, Nick, was convinced I couldn't do anything out of order," he began, remembering the small little memory. "So under a variety of circumstances that I don't recall, I ended up stealing my professor's violin, running out in the snow wearing my boxers, and playing for half an hour in the snow."

He paused, taking another small bite. "Nick dropped his cigarette, stripped down to his own boxers, grabbed Leroy and David, and the four of us played, wearing nothing but our underwear, until we got chased by security. The girls hid us in their washroom so we wouldn't get in trouble."

"Don't get any funny ideas to do during rehearsal. I was young, stupid and...I think I had a drink or two."

Nick nodded along with the explanation. "You're going to have to tough it out this time, if you feel the need to unload just give me a call," he was about to hang up, but heard the voice ask one more question. He couldn't help but smirk.

"I prefer Nick," he admitted. "Matthias or Derringer?"

Of all the things that Isaac had hoped to here...this really wasn't one of them. But still. It was a funny story, did he have permission to laugh? Finally, Isaac just grinned and shook his head, "Well, you showed him, didn't you? I mean, compared to the you of right now...I can't see it, but I guess I'm not supposed to. But it's nice to know that you can be spontaneously young and stupid. Got worried for a second there."

And then he raised an eyebrow, "The hell is that supposed to mean? I've been behaving myself, and besides, I already have a cold. I don't want to go out there and play in the snow in the my boxers. And do you know what that would do to my violin? I'm surprised the wood didn't crack when you played it outside. That kind of thing happens in London."

But the two of them had reached a milestone today, they'd shared a somewhat personal story and a bunch of other firsts.

"Nick then, fair enough." Matthias nodded, although when the question was reciprocated, he had to think for a moment. Eh. He didn't like Matt because Isaac always managed to lengthen Matt to 'Mattie'. "Matthias is fine, if I sound delirious the next time I call you, you'll know who to blame."

And when Matthias returned to the kitchen... "Oh, you guys are still dressed."

Isaac looked mildly offended, "What do you mean 'we're still dressed?' Did you expect us to be in a state of undress?"

"No! I...I just...never mind."

"We had the flu, were locked up in our dormitory for a week and a half and it was finally discovered of what happens when I get sick," Rei spoke, finishing the little story as he saw the man grin. "Off course I wouldn't do it now...but it was that same professor who I told you hated me. That little stunt gave him yet another reason...though I can't assure you what happened to his violin. I didn't really care." He still didn't care.

Rei chuckled, reaching forward and letting his thumb brush against the mans jaw. "Just teasing. Even if I wouldn't mind taking care of you again, I still don't want you to be sick."

They were comfortable with each other, sharing little details without thinking. Rei had yet to decide if that was a positive or negative.

"I'll blame them wholly. Good luck Matthias," Nick finished before finally hanging up and inhaling the cigarette deeply. What a strange turn of events. He hummed briefly before dialing the phone and calling up Leroy, asking if he remembered the time Rei stole a violin and played in his boxers in the middle of winter.

'Still...I feel bad for the violin," Isaac said, "If it belonged to a professor, it was probably decent, at the very least." He was getting warm fuzzies again, they stopped, only when Rei mentioned that well, he discovered that he was horny and needy when he was ill, and...well, they were all young and hormonal, and even though he wasn't completely comfortable with it--

"You were young and hormonal and stupid. That disease affects you too, just in case you forget." And yes, Isaac was wearing a sappy grin but.

Matthias coughed, loudly.

Isaac rolled his eyes, "What-ever, we're done eating anyway, getting a room now. Don't get whatever I have, you'll need a boyfriend to take care of you."

Matthias said, "Jerk."

But once Isaac was back in his own bedroom, he reached for the blanket again, "...Matthias is being weird, sorry. It's been a while since either of us have had a boyfriend so." But what was weird was that Matthias didn't approve. Matthias usually approved of all of Isaac's boyfirends. After all, they were only Isaac's business.

What made Rei different?
