[ Yay! You get extra brownie points for extra conniving!Bell ]

He'd actually made the offer expecting refusal, but Isaac was surprisingly proven wrong as the other man agreed. He took a moment to collect himself, there really wasn't that much to be elated about anyway. "Great...then we'll wait for you in the parking lot. See you in a bit."

It'd be too clingy if he stayed and walked with him to the parking lot, so Isaac would go ahead (as he'd learned quite a lot about slowing down while you were ahead. There were plenty of other chances.)

"...What was that about?" Matthias asked, finding that he had ever right to be suspicious.

"We're swinging by Rei's place to drop him off, it only takes a little while." Isaac said, probably sounding entirely too cheerful. "I'm driving."

Matthias handed over the keys. Did Isaac just...called Pearce, for the first time in his memory, by his given name? It had to be a slip.

((Look who's talking about being conniving..>>))

Rei merely nodded in agreement as he began to get his things together, waiting until everyone was out of the hall before finally checking his phone. He was right to think it was York, who had called him three times persistently, appeared to have left him two voice mails, and sent an arrangement of colorfully worded text messages that expressed exactly what he thought about Isaac.

Bringing York to rehearsal that day seemed to have been a bad idea after all.

Though it was interesting how the two had immediately gotten off on the wrong foot, before anyone had even said anything. Bell argued it was because York was smitten with Rei, but the conductor shot it down with rational thought.

Speaking of rational thought, there was nothing else to do but finally meet Isaac. So he grabbed his things and began walking, rubbing at his neck as he wondered once again if this had been the right idea.

[ Who? Me or Isaac? -blink blink- ]

As far as Isaac was concerned, York could shove his professional opinions where the sun don't shine and keep it there.

Matthias was of the opinion that Isaac was getting a little too invested in this whole thing, but getting Pearce to sleep with you was not an easy feat, even if you were Isaac Langley and things came easy to you.

"Doesn't he have his own car?" Matthias asked, no one knew quite how the conductor got around, because...well, he hid it well and no one bothered, so in a sense, Isaac had always infiltrated into Pearce's personal space, and such a feat like that presented its own dangers.

And even though Isaac was Isaac, he was perfectly aware of those dangers. "He's tired." And that was true, even after 'resting his eyes', the conductor still looked exhausted to him. He waited until the older man was in the car before turning around.

"Oh, yeah, I've been meaning to ask...is Hilary coming in to rehearse with us for the concerto this week? We're running low on time." (In fact, they'd only played it once when Isaac soloed.)

((Both.))

The walk to the car had been a surprisingly short yet thoughtful thing, as Rei wondered if perhaps it would be smarter to just politely decline. But he'd accepted already and Matthias might get strangely suspicious (because Rei wasn't quite sure if Isaac had told his friend or not, and if it was the later, wasn't going to be the one to spoil the news).

Blinking slowly as he heard the question, he hummed to himself as he searched through the various thoughts. A certain one reminded him, making him take out his phone and glance through some messages. Right there, in the middle of York and Bell's analyzing was his answer.

From Hilary herself.

"It appears not," he spoke as he continued reading the email rather lightly. Various other circumstances..he absent mindedly went to the next message from York, that hinted toward a rather startling piece of news.

'Did you know Hahn has a lover?'

Ah. Various other circumstances indeed..."No. I'm afraid not," he spoke before rather spontaneously deciding to get some revenge. "Bell will do the part instead."

Well, if anything was going on, Isaac hadn't kept up with it, he had been busy with other things, and besides, he didn't like gossip much unless he was the subject, or the cause of it...something like that. "I see. Well, I'll try too hard not to steal his thunder, I like him, although he likes giving me a hard time. It'll be fun."

Joshua Bell was playing solo. Now Isaac had an extra reason or two to focus during rehearsal.

Matthias felt like hitting him, except Isaac was sort of driving, so...that would have been a bad idea. "Nothing gets you down, does it?" Not even an evening full of NY Phil brats could get him down. But then, Isaac was the biggest brat of them all so...

Right around here, he realized that Isaac hadn't asked Pearce for directions, could it be that...

No fucking way.

"Course not," Isaac said, his grin looking entirely too nonchalant, "I'll bet you got Bell just to spite me. Is York going to be critiquing this concert too?" Knowing him, he'd find some colorful fault with Isaac and try to get him sacked.

"Bell likes giving everyone a hard time," Rei drawled before he paused. "...Didn't you two just talk once? You sound like you talk to him frequently." He wasn't too worried about Joshua, fully planning on throwing the fact that he slept through rehearsal and lost precious sleep as his weapon.

That and Bell did seem a bit upset that Hilary was asked rather than himself.

For a moment he thought the conversation was over, that he could just sit in the back and let his mind pretend he was in a free taxi. He wasn't that lucky though, as the conversation clearly continued and even Matthias threw in a comment.

"Joshua's a talented violinist," Rei argued, rolling his eyes at the immaturity. "I don't he'll be there to critique it, but York's most likely coming." In fact, Leroy and David would probably come too, just to hear what Joshua would sound like under the strict direction that the conductor was known for.

Or just to ridicule him after, point out his flaws and pulling him off to the bar too 'celebrate' until he was too hungover to complain.

"Being stuck with someone for half a rehearsal is a big deal, you'd learn a lot." Isaac said, answer immediately sliding off of his tongue, a glib excuse, but certainly one that Pearce couldn't question, after all, he hadn't played violin for a while. Would he even remember. Besides, he'd be all kinds of dead if Pearce found out that he and Joshua Bell even spoke on the phone. Even if it was once. Speaking of which...

No. He didn't have to report to Bell every step of the way, besides, it'd be probably better if Isaac simply didn't. Being an outsider to this game, Bell was probably more intuitive, Isaac would do well to be careful.

"I didn't say he wasn't talented, Pearce, don't get all worked up, Jesus." Isaac turned into the street as the light went green, "I meant critiquing the orchestra, but obviously, York isn't going to bestow an honor like that on a brat like me. After all, I have that ten measure solo I have to bomb in the Dvorak. Just kidding."

Besides, it wasn't possible for him to bomb anything.

Matthias made note as Isaac stopped the car. So he did know.

"And...we'll see you tomorrow? Don't work too hard." Perhaps Isaac's grin was a bit too infuriating.

It was comforting to know his home wasn't that far from rehearsal hall, but considering his 'lovely' morning personality, it was more of a blessing to the orchestra. If they thought he was bad usually...he was worse in the mornings, especially when grumpy. It was probably the main reason everyone behaved well today and made extra care to not screw up.

"York's coming purely as a guest," Rei corrected before he frowned at the joke. "Though if you make an error I'm sure he'll be running to his boss begging to write an article." Unfortunately, Rei was quite serious with his words.

The familiar street arrived soon enough, before Rei collected his things and nodded slowly, casting a glance at Matthias who had been oddly quiet. "Until tomorrow," he spoke before opening the door and leaving the car, giving it a soft push before giving a final nod good bye. "Thanks for the ride."

With that he turned, entering the building before he made his way upstairs, dropping his things as soon as the door was locked and taking slow steps to his bed as he stripped off his clothing, falling unto the soft sheets already half asleep before he passed out completely.

"You're welcome," Isaac grinned after him, and it wasn't until Pearce was inside did Matthias turn to his friend accusingly.

"You," he pointed a finger over, "did something last night. Was that why you snuck out? To meet him? You could have told me."

"Eh...no I couldn't, Bell swore me to secrecy and I need to cover my own ass," Isaac turned the car around, "I don't feel quite so safe exposed. Besides, he and I are getting along better, can't you see?"

Perhaps a little too well, Isaac and Rei Pearce survived a car ride together without trying to throttle each other. It was almost a miracle, or maybe Matthias could chalk it up to the fact that Isaac was driving and it wasn't in Pearce's best interest to throttle the driver.

Even so...Isaac looked so ridiculously satisfied, why, did Matthias get the sinking feeling that something horrible was going to come of this?

Rei wasn't sure how long has passed since he had fallen asleep. All he knew that when he woke up, something was very, very wrong.

It wasn't that the state of affairs were different, or he didn't recognize his surroundings. Oh no, it was something that settled in before he even opened his eyes. Rei Pearce had a dream. Something so common that occurred to most had so rarely come to him, specifically because they often visited him in the form of nightmares, never to make him happy but suffer a sleepless night instead.

But this was different. He felt warm waking up, the pleasant butterflies in his stomach making him attempt to cling at what in the world he could have dreamed about. By reflex he assumed it was music, because it really was the only thing that truly made him happy, but it wasn't that simple.

Certain things stood out in his memory. A violin, carefully handled and taken care of being played. He couldn't remember a face, where he was or why anything was happening. He just remembered hearing a haunting melody, as the tall man played.

The only thing he could recall was black hair.

So he groaned, swearing loudly as he went through the list of people he knew with dark hair and tried to make that horrible, horrible little dream go away.

In the end, they went out drinking, in the Western Rivera, the same bar where things had went absolutely downhill with Pearce, but try as he might, after that particular little outburst, Matthias was sitting with Isaac at the bar and Isaac was flirting half-heartedly with a bartender. A girl was eying him from across the bar, but Matthias wasn't even going to--

"You play in the NY Phil? No wonder you look so familiar..."

Somehow, it made him feel slightly better, that Isaac was at least trying to retain some form of normalcy, because he'd been anything but normal this past week. The flirting really wasn't going to go anywhere, it never did. But still, it proved to Matthias that Isaac was the same person. A person who didn't give a shit about anything, and...he wasn't taking anything seriously.

This was the Isaac that he knew.

Pearce was changing him, whether or not Isaac really knew it, yes, it was essential to act different, but...sometimes he couldn't tell whether or not it was an act.

Besides, it was only the chase that made Isaac happy. Things would go back to normal--

"You're driving." Matthias caught the key.

By the time Rei had convinced himself that he was dreaming of someone he did not know with black hair, his phone had rang and kicked him out of his thoughts. Hand reaching out, he frowned as the digits felt around for the ringing phone before the familiar rectangular shape hit his fingers and made him accept the call.

Far too lazy to bring it to his ear though, he merely put it on speaker and leaned over on his side to face the phone.

"Rei speaking," he spoke, rubbing the bridge of his nose as he tried to sound away.

"It's Joshua. Lis--"

"Perfect," Rei interrupted. "Remember the piece I told you with Hilary? She can't do it. Something about circumstances, York says its a lover. Anyway, you're doing it instead."

"Thanks for the kind offer."

"Anytime."

"Anyway, continuing from last night..." With that they restarted their conversation, all the while as Rei tried to forget about the signature green eyes that were appearing to wiggle into his memory.

Isaac slept...late. Until one the next day, and he didn't quite bother to get up until Matthias roused him. Isaac appeared to be halfway hungover, but still in a ridiculously good mood. "And...before you ask, no, I don't want any food, is there coffee?"

"There's always coffee," Matthias pointed out as he followed a tousled hair Isaac in the kitchen, "How'd you sleep?"

"Wonderfully," Isaac grinned, "...believe it or not, I'm actually kind of looking forward to rehearsal today."

"Are you going to try to jump him in the closet?"

"Why would I do that? He's just warming up to me." Isaac shrugged.

Matthias turned his attention to the paper, "You're kind of impossible--" He cut off abruptly. And Isaac blinked.

"What is it now? York ranting prematurely? I'm going to kill that bastard."

"No...it's..." Matthias tossed him the arts section, "Look. Under musical."

Rei didn't know how long they talked. York was pulled in a few times, then left, came over to Rei's, cooked and ate dinner together, all the while talking with Joshua until he just dragged his ass over and left the three of them to debate.

It no longer had to do with Isaac though. It was back to Julia's letter, a thought that hadn't plagued him for hours. They taunted, argued, prodded, laughed, drank and ate, and were eventually joined by Leroy and David.

They stayed up late, (which did nothing to help Rei), and left Rei near three in the morning, where he proceeded to sleep until noon before finally waking up.

It seemed however, that instead of York or Bell, it was David that was finally going to be sticking his nose in the conductor's business.

"So what do you think about her letter?" Off course David was curious, he was the one who found it.

"Nothing David," Rei calmly replied while sipping some coffee. "I'm not going back to the violin. No arguments."

"I don't see what's so..." Isaac trailed off. "You're kidding...right?" But Matthias wasn't, and right there in the paper was an ad for the Apollo Theatre, debuting this Friday: 'Were the World Mine' starring...

Bradley St. Ryan.

For a long moment, Isaac didn't even know what to think. Bradley, who avoided the States like the plague and now he was...well, maybe Isaac was reading too much into it. He was just here, there was no way that he could find out...

He tossed the paper back, "It's not a big deal, I'm not a fan of musicals anyway."

Although if Bradley were to show up right now, things would get decidedly troublesome for Isaac, he'd have to think about things that he didn't want to think about. Besides, Isaac Langely never had dependency problems until Bradley happened along. It was all Bradley's fault, the whole reason why Isaac was like...this.

And there it was again. His mind just thought Bradley, Bradley, Bradley. Fuck. Just like before. Until everything had changed.

"We're going to be late," suddenly abrupt, he downed his coffee and ran a hand through his hair, "let's just go." He didn't want to think about it. At all.
