Joshua was quite surprised at the caller. Before he could ask how in the world his phone number was received, it was answered and all he could remain was curious. "Rei's group," he spoke aloud, before a face came to mind. "You're the concertmaster, right? What can I do for you?" The next words made him freeze. The wooden spoon fell from his hands, and he rushed to gather it quickly before throwing it in the sink and getting another one. "...Lunch and drinks?" How the hell did he convince Rei to do that? Better yet, "How did it go? Any promising results on fulfilling your crush?" Perhaps Joshua tended to remember the strangest things. He had forgotten the solo but the rather strange confession? Oh that was engraved. Now he was really curious. "Am I to guess that this phone means you did either very well or very poorly?" |

Matthias was laughing again, Isaac flipped him off and left the room for the practice room, where he closed the door after him and sat against the wall. He finally sighed, "Must you call it a crush, Mr. Bell? I'm twenty-six, a little bit old to have crushes, don't you think? It's just an interest..." Albeit an interest with monetary value behind it and an interest he didn't know how to pursue. Damn. Joshua Bell was more insightful than Isaac had first given him credit for, but he was good at mind games over the phone. He raked a hand through dark hair and sighed again. "Well...to be honest, lunch was good, and then great, drinks not so much, I left early." Although Isaac wasn't aware that what he had done--lured Pearce out for lunch and drinks was monumental enough for Joshua Bell to drop a spoon. And maybe it was good to show that he was vulnerable, and not the calculating guy that Bell probably thought he was. Isaac closed his eyes, "He called me Isaac for half an hour." (He hadn't been keeping track, really, just happened to glance at his watch.) "And then apparently I said something stupid. I didn't know that the word 'normal' would set him off like that..." |

"A crush is a crush, no matter what age it appears at," Joshua hummed back, feeling a bit old as he was called 'Mr'. He didn't mention it though as he guessed that the violinist was probably calling for advice...though why it was him, he couldn't even fathom. "What interests me is how you managed to get him to go with you in the first place," he spoke, pausing for a moment. "No, wait, let me guess. He promised without thinking it through and you god knows how convinced him to do more." It was a bit surprising that it went good, not to mention great. The not so much part was to be expected. "He called you by your first name?" At this Joshua was genuinely surprised but time had taught him a few things. "...Do you know what might have caused the switch?" Rei wasn't the emotional type to make frequent slips. Why, Joshua knew Rei had to have a general rule of 'family, close friends and lovers only' to calling people by their first names. Only he had started calling Rei by his first name recently. One outing couldn't have changed that much. However, a very hearable hiss left his mouth at the word 'normal'. "...Exactly how did you use the word normal?" |

"Whatever..." Well, it was between Joshua Bell and Nick York who did serious damage to Isaac's ego that one day he came around. No thank you. And the Mister was wholly on purpose. "Well, not exactly, sort of, yeah...a while back he said we'd have drinks, so I called him on it, for the lunch, I said I was buying, and I said it wasn't healthy to drink on an empty stomach. Is it that much of a miracle?" The switch. Isaac had known that was extraordinary. He was still a little surprised that it had worked halfway. "For that, I pulled the, 'I'd like to delude myself into thinking you respect me at least a little' card, and...there was some talk about a pedestal." It had seemed a little too easy at the time, but maybe he really should have quit while he was ahead. Hearing Joshua's nonverbal accusation over the phone, Isaac pursed his lips again. "If the word was at least a bit insulting, I'd be careful using it, no one told me..." He felt his forehead prickle. Was the fact that 'normal' was a trigger word common knowledge to everyone, "I just said...I wished he acted more like this? A normal human being? It wasn't as if I really did insult him." |

Joshua nodded between the explanations, partially impressed with the mans abilities to persuade. It also made him listen extra carefully to their phone conversations. "Quite. That or you're pulling the innocent card on me and you're actually rather clever and persuasive." It was strange how when he didn't mean to his words could hit right on the mark. "...A pedestal?" He sounded down right shocked at this one. "You mocked his height." It sounded almost like an insult. "...Never mind. That isn't important., back to the word normal." Joshua thought for a moment, frowning as he wondered just what to say. It wasn't his place really...but the kid did seem quite upset over his little slip of words. "Lets just say the words been haunting him for most of his life. Back when he was a kid he tapped and heard every beat and melody and was ridiculed for it, even when its a gift," he paused suddenly as Julliard came to mind. "Even worse is that blasted professor from prep, not to mention when he finally got in. To him, there is no greater insult than being told to 'be normal'. Even being called short comes second." |

"I did not." Isaac was feeling more defensive than he should, and that...was not a good sign. But if he wanted Bell on his side, he'd better explain himself properly, "There's more than one way to make use of the world, I said that both Julliard Prep and his first name are on a pedestal for me, that's all, and I valued both of them as an impossibility. Maybe he was flattered, I don't know." But maybe that did sound a little clever for him. So he had to explain that, "I'm usually more or less cleverer after a few drinks, I'm usually quite stupid, trust me." That was still a shitty reason to hate the word 'normal', and that was abnormal. Period. Isaac sprawled down on the ground and stared at the ceiling, "Jesus. There's no way I could have known that, Joshua. But anyway...yeah, it went downhill from there. What am I supposed to do now? I really didn't fuck it up on purpose." And Joshua probably had no way of knowing that him asking that meant that he had...well, it'd cost him a lot. With his complex and all. |

"...Why in the world would Julliard Prep and his name be on--oh, this is one of those things you can't understand unless you like someone," he mumbled the last bit to himself, though he was beginning to get a little bit suspicious. What was more interesting was the little slip of words. Clever after drinks? But it was dinner that went well and they couldn't have had a drink then, not if they were going to a bar after. Oh no, the clever words probably came out before then. It was making everything far more interesting. "There's more but it isn't my place. You'd have to ask him yourself," he spoke before the age old question of 'what am I supposed to do now?' hit him. "...and don't ask him about it. Not unless you two become lovers and weeks down the line you get curious. Either way I would..." God, what would he do? He never considered dating Rei, that's what. "Well, what made him open up in the first place?" |

And Isaac certainly was not going to tell him what transpired right before he had left Pearce at the bar. And he would have...whatever. Maybe he was taking this game a bit too seriously? But suddenly, Isaac wanted to conquest because...well, Isaac Langley was hardly denied something that he wanted, or, in this case, was ordered to get. And he'd gone so far to grovel Joshua Bell. Of course there was more, there was always more. Why did he have to listen to Matthias and accept the stupid bet? At Bell's question, he shrugged, and then realized that this was the phone, so he said, "Well, no shit, I'm not going to ask him about it, there's limits to my stupidity, although sometimes I wonder at myself." At the next valid question though, he bit his lip, because it was a little too valid. "I guess...I was honest, but--I have a feeling that's not going to help me. You know him, and I've come further than any of you people. Please help me?" If Bell was going to make him grovel more than that, Isaac would quite simply jump off a bridge. |

So Joshua was right. The bugger wasn't as 'stupid' was he liked to make himself seen. There had been too many slips. From Mr. Bell to Joshua, to the sudden cursing and not to mention the lack of information his questions were receiving. Something was definitely up. "Think about it logically. Whatever made him open up the first time is your best chance. He's rather sensitive and feels emotion strongly, though he has a bad habit of hiding it." He almost grinned at the attitude. This was certainly turning interesting. "He acts quite natural with us and none of us are trying to get into his pants," he stressed, not aware that he was hitting the nail right on the target. "But how do you want me to help you? Putting in a good word won't work because you certainly don't want him knowing about his phone call I'm to assume. Do you want me to stage a run in or something?" |

None of them were trying to get into Pearce's pants. Well, that statement hit a little too close to home, so it took Isaac a moment to registered that he wasn't exactly caught, but he passed off the statement rather deftly, at least, he thought. "I'm not trying to get into his pants." Lying through his teeth, "I mean yes, down the road, that probably would be nice. But I'm not so loose that I'll...just chase someone for the sake of that. I'm not that kind of person." Unless you paid him handsomely. (Down the road = sometime this month.) Not going to happen. What had Isaac gotten himself into? Isaac sighed again, associating with Pearce for too long made him melancholy. He didn't like this part of himself. "Look...I," Isaac paused again, how the hell was he going to run this one? Suddenly improvising with Joshua Bell just got ten times harder, since well, he wasn't caught, but the fact that Bell would mention it at all, meant the thought hat cross his mind. "Just tell me what else he doesn't like so that I don't make the same mistake again. That's all." After all, did every synonym for normal carry the same effect? |

"Lets hope so. Rei has a vicious temper when scorned," Joshua spoke, noting just how defensive the male got. "I'm just teasing. Lets see, his dislikes..." This was turning out to be a harder list than he imagined it to be. "Well, just in general, he doesn't like liver, eggs or yogurt but that's not what you want to hear now is it?" He was teasing, wondering just what the motivation behind this chase really was. He'd merely have to wait it out to see. "Just the word normal and his height," he pondered for a moment, tapping his neck before he remembered. "Ah! And he hates massages. Anything with his neck or back being touched." It was amazing that Joshua was unaware of the full details that transpired during their date. "And in case your interested, there are three things he loves more than anything else in this whole world other than music," Joshua teased, a chesire grin on his face as he leaned over his counter. "Calloused fingertips, dark hair and his niece. Somehow get her on your side and he's yours." |

"I know that without you telling me..." So the defensive card had stuck. Maybe Isaac could relax a little now. He rolled his eyes though. Why couldn't Pearce be more like Joshua Bell? He could have snagged him in a flash. But no, of course Matthias had to make him work for six grand, and it looked like he had his work cut out for him. He'd wanted the lunch and drinks to be...enough, so he could leave Pearce to come to him again, but obviously, that wasn't happening either. Pearce hated massages. well, that was not what Isaac's fingers told him. But he didn't need Joshua to know about that particular little detail. It was one advantage that Isaac had. Pearce had liked it, he just wouldn't admit to it. And getting him to admit to it was half the trouble. Calloused fingers, dark hair, and his niece. Isaac had two out of three. "I have a feeling that Rei's going to keep me away from the last one..." And for the first time, Isaac had slipped, but maybe it was a well-placed one. |

Joshua was tempted to hum. This was far to amusing and he was learning far more than he was letting on. The slip of a first name had helped but he didn't mention it aloud. He did however pull the phone away for good measure as he hid a small chuckle. He returned to the whole acting like before, thinking about the last one. "He acts completely different around her, its certainly a sight to see. In fact..." Pausing for a moment as he reached for his cell, he raised a brow at a well timed message from Rei. 'Hey, out in Central Park with Alice. Some guys playing the piece your performed a month ago - he didn't screw up the trill.' Well timed for Isaac and Joshua and rather ill-timed for Rei that is. "He's with her right now," he hinted, grinning at the message. "Make a good impression on the girl and she might ask him personally for the three of you to go out." The hint was there, obvious that he knew their location. Well...not exactly. He replied back asking what bench, waiting to feel the vibration of a reply that would signal his own little silent revenge. Rei deserved a little kick in the ass if he couldn't forget a single mistake on a trill. |

Rei was with her right now. Was that a hint for Isaac to... Did Joshua want him to move right...now? And Isaac was a little horrible with kids, he was good with his own niece and nephew, but that was because they had the same sarcastic streak. So that just meant... "I can't just show up...there," He said finally, maybe Isaac wasn't a lot of things positive, but his head his own sense of propriety, well, for one thing, Pearce was ticked at him, for another, wasn't it really suspicious that Isaac just showed up to wherever they were...after he had obviously told Joshua Bell where he was with his niece. "He's ticked at me, and I'd seem like a stalker. And besides...I'm guessing you only brought it up because he told you." Pearce wasn't stupid, it was all too convenient. Joshua Bell wasn't either, so why...was he telling Isaac to go? |

"Close. He just sent me a message telling me he's with his niece and a guy playing on a bench can manage to not screw up a trill that I messed up." It was a simple and honest explanation but perhaps Rei wasn't quite understood as well as Joshua could have hoped. "You know how some people let people blow off some steam? Rei's steam grows and manifests. He's with his niece, he can't cuss you out or be rude to you and I highly doubt he would consider the idea of you having my phone number." It was sound reasoning and logic. "Wait until tomorrow and you might just find yourself worse off than you started. Besides...it's Central Park and--" A vibration and light went off to his right. 'Message me later. We're by the Zoo and Alice is trying to climb past the gate.' "--and I would go straight for the apology once his niece isn't looking. Be stubborn and mean it and perhaps this day won't end up as a failure after all." |
