Ok so E3 this year is shaping up to be a biggy with the suspected unveiling of the new consoles. From what i have heard its going to be the obvious PS4 and Xbox 720 but i have a bad feeling it wont take off with a bang that everyone is hoping ( i could be wrong ).

i can vouch that i wont be touching these units for awhile as with past experiences ( Not just Gaming consoles ) ive had when buying something new on the market.

So what do you guys think about the new consoles coming out?? are they going to stir up the gaming market or are they going to be a big hit??

for consoles:

PS4 - This won't be released until 2016 if sony stick to their 10 year plan they always talk about
Xbox... well the next one - will probably be 2014-2015 minimum, it would be fukin stupid to have spent so much money redesigning the 360 and it's OS if they didn't plan to support it atleast for a few years.
Nintendo - They are just fuking dead in my books, everyone is looking back on the wii as the death of nintendo and their WiiU looks ridiculous, im not going to speculate about their release schedule cos honestly i don't care.

so my predictions for E3?

no MAJOR console news, someone might unveil a concept model but nothing more. As for games I don't expect much greatness either, E3 is only for the big players these days and 2011 was definitely the year of the indie developers, this will continue in greater numbers and potential in 2012.

I think something will be shown ie; concepts for next gen, the news is so badly wanted by the press but agree with Northy on the release dates. As for the wii u, the only good idea is that with say a rpg you could look at the tablet/cotroller and have your inventry controlled there. Changing on the fly instead of a pause style menu is a good thing imo.

I don't recall where I read it but Sony stated that there will be no PS4 at E3.

EDIT- It isn't the one I first read, but states the same.

been reading up on this stuff. gotta remember that the console announcement rumours are just that: rumours.
isn't the wii u supposed to be coming out in may though?
read an article this morning that the next xbox could potentially be tablet based, and another quoting Kaz Hirai saying that the next playstation (whenever it comes out) will still be disc based, as it wouldn't be economically viable/not possible to make a solely digital-based console. The articles were on IGN if you wanna look it up if i remember correctly.
i'm just looking forward to more details and footage on games, like Last of Us

EDIT: found the links, they're from CVG:

educated guesses

5 seconds on google will get you this information from http://www.psu.com
Quote:

Sony America’s senior vice president of marketing Peter Dille has asserted that the firm is ‘serious’ about its commitment to a 10-year lifecycle for PlayStation 3, after conceding some industry folk may pass it off as 'spin.’

“I hope that people know by now that we are serious when we talk about 10-year product lifecycles. I don't know; maybe sometimes guys in your business think that it's spin. If it were spin, you wouldn't have PS1 and PS2 doing it; we're the only company that's ever done it,” Dille told Gamasutra.

The executive went on to state that Sony is confident PS3 will remain viable over the next decade, though cast doubt as to whether it’s competitor’s would follow suite.

and like I said, microsoft wouldn't invest so much in to reinventing the 360 and OS on the 360 so much if they planned to release a new console so soon.

Based on previous microsoft market strategy, they want to be first to the market, they won't give 2 shits about the new wii, they will be watching sony.

We will probably get a new xbox about a year before a new ps3 but this is still just a guess, both companies could fold and put out something in 2013. More likely just more gay peripherals like move and kinect.

yeah would have to agree with northy on this as well, and lololol on Nintendo, I wouldn't be surprised if the wii u ends up being a big flop. I think the wii is a very family friendly console due to its affordability, I don't see the wii u being the same, one reason, the $598 price tag.

I too, also do not want new consoles yet, I'm still not finished with the current ones.

Not to mention, I don't think it's the best time to be releasing new consoles with the economy the way it is in some countries.

The '10 year' lifespan of the PS2 was only 6 years in when PS3 was released. PS2 released in Japan 2000, PS3 2006, take from that what you will. I have heard Sony are already working on the PS4, I would expect to see it hit E3 next year and shelves in 2014. Thats my prediction.

I'm picking they'll both be shown.

Don't like it though, seems pointless to replace something which is working fine already. Both 360 and PS3.

microsoft just need to get a new disc format to compete with blu-ray (hd dvd was absolute fail), and then they'll be up to speed with the sony, and then it'll make things easier on the developing front (for example, no games with 3-4 discs to play like rage and la noire)

But people are still buying PS2 games and such. It's this thinking that makes me think that they might release the next console before the 10 year life cycle, and just keep supporting the PS3. Like they've done with the PS2 and PS3.

I don't think it'd be a terrible thing to have new consoles. Even if they announce them, they're probably not going to be released until the end of 2013 at the earliest. Nothing wrong with seeing what we'll be playing in a few years time.

True, it's actually kinda surprising how many people still buy PS2 games, particularly with the price of current gen consoles being much more affordable. I also think that we will see the next gen systems become even more of an 'entertainment hub' than they are now. I wouldn't be surprised to see Play TV built into the next PS.

despite my disappointment in Sony since the PS3 happened, I still stand by my statement years ago that the PS2 was the most successful console of all time to date.

It was supported epicly well and had a great life and library of games. Even after the ps3 was released games were still coming out on ps2, even though the games weren't as good as their newer gen alternative, they were great for people who didn't want to pay $650 for a new console.
